im sure nvidia will realize they'll sell more 8600s with a 256-bit bus.

    They'd better. I am not buying another 256mb G-card.
I didn't just buy my 20.1" lcd screen for nothing.
I hope that pic is fake, but then again if they are gonna
have a GTS with only 320mb, I am doubting the 8600
will have a chance at 512....

Well 512MB on a 8600 would be money wasted, because @ High resolution something like 1680x1050 High textures @ AA+AF although on the GDDR side it may be enough @ those settings the card will be cripeld in terms of framerate.
Let's see what ATi brings in the mainstream price range if it will be better with a small price gap between 8600 and it Nvidia will have something to counteract like 7900GS.

I tend to take VR-zone at their word that the differences between the products will be the use of 1.4ns and 1.1ns ram, and they will both have 64 shaders. It sounds like the right shader fraction against the 8800, and the bus and memory would have to be the same to make the PCB work. Since there are four chips on that PCB, the max is 256MB.

Even if the news is relatively disappointing on the bus/ram front, one has to realize using the same chip for both parts (while only having a 128-bit bus), and an already in-use pcb with only 4 (instead of 8) RAM chips should allow for a pretty cheap product. If nothing else, it's a good call on Nvidia's part to maximize profits.
yeh it appears like 8600ultra will be 128bit Unfortnaly

    cheers

nvidia can not possibly be that stupid to cripple a DX10 card like that. it needs to be at least 190bit but i would say it would be logical to go for 256bit.

Because it ain't that good,if it was 8800GTS I would agree 512MB is better than 256/320 because it has 96 SP and 320bit bus but for 64 SP and 128 bit bus that is just money wasted, for example look at a 7600GS 512,you don't need those 512MB GDDR because @ high resolutions where the extra 256mb are needed let's say 1680 4xAA/16XAF and high quality textures it will be a pain in the a$$ to play @ an average framerate of 20 or even lower in Oblivion/Rainbow Six,same goes for 8600ULTRA althogh for the new DX9 games 1680x 2XAA/16XAF +HDR may be posible to play @ an average 30-40FPS but for DX10 games like Crysis/Alan Wake you will be probably playing those @ 1024/1280 with HQ textures and HDR+AF that if you want to enjoy a medium-low gameplay 30-40FPS even lower not the 60FPS needed for FPS games.

well if the 8600 ultra comes in with a 256-bit bus, 1.4ghz memory, and 512mb of it, it sounds like it may be my next two cards. Can't wait to get more info on these cards. fillrates, overclocking, voltmods easy or not, lol.

I personally right now own a x1900xt 512mb, so i would have to get two, but the x1900xt is dirt easy to overclock and voltmod upto 1.575v. Come on nvidia. Make your card my next two!
