(I prefer the latter due to the fact it has native watercooling on the NB which fits perfectly with my WC-system plus the number and position of the PCIe slots is a pro for me )
Go back through this thread and read some of Jor31BR' s posts. If im not mistaken he has both of the boards that you are asking about and has pulled off
some fantastic (world record) clocks with both of them with a 9650

Thanx for the quick responses. . The DFI UT P45-T2RS was also a candidate, but after reading the UT P45-T2RS thread and seeing Jor31BR comments about this board - the fact it has trouble running high clocks with quads - I'd made my choise.
I'll go for the UD3P (mainly because it's cheaper than the Extreme and is has LCC option in the bios, don't feel like modding the Extreme at the moment)
    Proc: Q9650 9x496 @ 1.440v batch L844B703
    Ram: 2x2GB OCZFlexII PC-9200 4:5 1240MHz 6-6-6-18 @ 2.12v
    Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P rev 1.0 - bios F9b

Quick question. Iam correct saying that this CPU will average 4.2Gz OC for 24/7 usage?

Good cooling + right motherboard > 4.4GHz at least without a sweat.
    Good chip > 4.5GHz ++

I'd say that wasn't accurate. I'd say with decent cooling most chips will reach 4.25GHz. Beyond that it depends how good a chip you have, what motherboard you have, and how good an overclocker you are.

Dunno. I only tried 3 chips. 2 from the old batch. 1 from the new batch when the price drop. They can do 4.3 - 4.4 prime stable easily. Using ud3p and T-extreme.

3 Chips tested for friends, old batch and new and all of them can do 4500Mhz Prime95/IBT stable if you cool them down below 65oC on heavy load and know your way thru the rocks...

Mine is running 4800Mhz IBT stable

EDIT: all of them had a vid below 1.23v.

My new PSU (Corsair TX 750) arrived today so I'm about to rebuild. I'm seriously hoping that I can join the big boys club at 4.5GHz on air! Hope to report back soon.

I really like the dfi board, I "almost" bought one, before I got this board.
One of the deciding factors for me was all of the templates/support in the UD3P thread right here on XtremeSystems. Its important for me to get help when I need it; from some really good people. I know that there is a really good p45-t2rs thread also, (with good people there also). BUT; there is not many people there with quads. Or at least when I was shopping for a good quad board.
Most people achieve high clocks with quads on the ud3p. And I couldn't be happier with my choice of the ud3p. I can plug in Jor's or radaja's templates with my quad and achieve great results and stability. Now that is easy (lazy) overclocking. I mean down to the Vcore. Just put in their numbers and go.
I can't keep up with their memory, or cooling, but.... Lotta nice people that will help you with the ud3p and quads.

I agree the UD3P is a awesome board for quads, better then my P5Q deluxe which I think I am switching out for a Gig.

I think it also depends on the mobo you have...

    I've got a "new chip": L845B527 with a VID: 1,2500v
On my ASUS P5E3 WS Pro, I have trouble to find a right parameter to achieve a 9x485... (I'm also a newbie on this mobo/DDR3)
But here, I just perform' some 4H CPU Stress MT @ 9x455 with 1,3125v Vcore. Not that bad I hope.
I'll try to push some more even if most of you guys use an UD3P...

So your telling me that my Rampage Extreme is a POS? If yes, I kinda believe that.

Hmmm, is that sarcasm or what? You have decent clocks for x48, but it's no secret that UD3P is king of the hill when it comes to 45nm quads.

    Incidentally, I'm parting ways with my Q9650, UD3P, and 8GBs of G.Skills F2-7200CL4D. I've successfully primed them at 8 x 525, and 8.5 x 520. PM me if interested.

Edit: 8.5 x 520 with 8Gbs is my 24/7; just to give those interested an idea about stability.

@ zucker.. well well welcome to the ep45+q9650 godness

    ep45-dq6
    ep45-extreme
    ep45-ud3p

    + thermalright ifx14 = 4.5ghz guaranteed

    catch? no less than a 1000watt psu @ 12.5v

    850watt @ 12.4 is not good enough.. at least not for a gtx285 @ 810/1620/1512 air/stock cooled @ heavy loads and q9650 @ 4.5

soon ill have about 10x ep45s and none ofem have let me down @ 4.5ghz.. except ep45t-extreme.. no ddr3/psu/q9650/settings/air cooler satisfies that beeotch

Are you sure its your PSU? Because Im having some problems to get my Q9650 stable at 4ghz+. Running only on a Zalman 600Watt with 4*16 = 64A on the 12V rails.

    12V line = 12.56V idle and 12.49V load.

Because I get instant crash in 3dmark2006, while its prime + linpack stable.
