    bumpy ride

wow what a bumpy ride with this q9650 , learned some lessons to on the way !!!
First of all i installed this with a earlier bios on my board it ran ok , but then under devices it showed proc as unknown device x 4 , did what everyone recommended and deleted devices and restarted no good ...geesh ok went to DFI site got the last bios update 9/19 which alot of people dont like but its the only one that shows q9650 in device manager , good right !! nope now all the sudden a new problem arises it knocks my xbox 360 off of media sharing and the system is acting a bit quarky and slower than my q6600 , so just to make sure I put back in the q6600 bam all works perfect again ... put the q9650 back in problems come back but will pass intell burn test 20 times and passes prime 95 solid 18 hours ? simple tactic i reload vista now everything is running smooth as butter Now time to put back at 4050 with a 1.1 divider at 9 x 450 wish i could go higher but im hearing these dfi p35 just don't like to push quads higher than a 450 fsb, maybe ill have to try to watercool my nb .....

i got mine up pretty high on my dfi ut-p35-t2r.i had the same problems with the bios's the newest showed the right cpu under device manager, but in everest and Smart gaurdian the voltages and temps were missing.then i went back to the older bios and it seemed to be ok even though device manager was wrong,i was able to see the right temps and voltages.i think the highest i got it was 471fsb.

    471 wow

471 isnt to bad at all with a quad on this board man radaja what kind of nb voltage were u pushing 1.6 man i could imagine your temp on it was 55c , im torn between getting the board you have or investing into a waterblock for mine , only reason is ive used lot of gigabyte boards and they almost all had hardware failures !!! but man u guys make overclockin look easy with these things , high fsb on a quad awesome...... grrrrrr i hate being a pc ethuisist lol

yes i was pushing 1.57-1.60nbv.but you know to be honest i was only using the dfi while i waited for my UD3P to get back from RMA.and i got to say it was frustrating not being able to go higher than 471,when i could easily do 525fsb with my UD3P&9650.so when i got my gigabyte back i quickly through in my quad and went straight to 500fsb+ and was very happy.if i was you and if you can afford it i would for sure get a UD3P,you'll love it.but remember the dfi p35 is much better in the memory dept

The sensors of my chip are a bit weird, and I dont know which one to trust.

    Core # 0 = 34C Idle, Load = 58
    Core # 1 = 34C Idle, Load = 57
    Core # 2 = 37C Idle, Load = 49
    Core # 3 = 40C Idle, Load = 48

Measured with coretemp and realtemp, show same results.

This is prime small fft load, with a lapped TRUE S-Flex 1600 slipstream and AS5. I gues core #0 and #1 have the correct temperatures?
Dropped it to stockspeed, but the idle temperatures remain the same. Load temps drop with 10. Does that mean that I have 4 stuck sensors?

In BIOS CPU reports at 22/23C, and changes all the time so it seems BIOS takes another (correct) sensor.

yO Radaja im with you on that ordering of the ud3p , it'll make this q9650 spring to life for sure , but my first thing to fix is this corsair hx620w after i added the 4870x2 all my lines started to drop heavy , giving me a nasty vdroop to where i set my vcore at 3.600v to hold at 3.200v lol ouch.. ordered the corsiar tx850 hopefully it'll hold under my load of my system ..... " what did you mean by dfi being better with memory ?
If anyone is interested im selling my q6600 runs flawless at 3.6 with 1420v and it lapped very nicely

p35's have better memory performance than p45's, at least it was from my experience

Got a new Mother board rampage extreme and it opened the bad boy up I've had it uip to 4.4 ghz now stable but it gets hot.. Under air soo.. but i couldnt get it over 3.9 w/ the maximus formula or gigabyte x38-dq6.. not sure if it the x48 or the ddr3 its running now but either way Im happy .. Have it set at 4.2ghz nor idle temps 35-35-34-34 w/ loads @ 59-59-57-58 prime 95 for 3 hours
!! I need to get my temps down a tad was thinking of trying my Zalman 9700 HS on it???

well i know in performance of equal cloaks the p35 stands of very strong to the p45s maybe becuase of the aggresive memory sub timing they come with... Hmmm nb cooler or gigabyte board lol .....

Other news I Lapped this q9650 really good and my water loop is soaking up the heat very nicely I actualy see a raise in temps in the loop that is higher than the q6600 meaning im getting better heat transfer from the cpu and im running about 9 - 10 c lower at same settings . being that cooling isnt a problem anymore , lets see what happens monday when i get the new power supply in and see if i can hold my vcore voltage steady then all should be good , at the moment though running at 3.6 with tight timming and shes running really nice

    So, I ran some stability tests. Q9650 480fsb 8.5 multi, M2F board, DDR2 1000 @ 960 = 4080mhz Vista 64 U (2x2gb)
Memtest passes twice. I understand memtest isn't exactly 100% ....Tried IBT 1.9 and it failed off the bat. I reset my bios; everything to default and IBT failed again. Y- reports, 1-max stress, 5 itterations = fails

Any idea what it is? Currently running Prime95 Large FFT's and its fine the past 45min

Very first try on my new Q9650 with a motherboard that I have since a couple of week: ASUS P5E3 WS Pro
    Batch L845B527, VID 1.2500v

    Weird FSB Max around 470
    Some 3Dm2K6 @ 9x470 with 1,30v OK

I'll try to find the FSB Max... 470 seems to "sux". My Q6600 on the same motherboard takes 505~510

    Seeya for more tests

your right mem test isnt 100 % but its a start.. 45 min its good for a slight change in bios to predict voltages hmmmm if i were you i hit intel cpu burn if it fails start working your voltages a lil higher ... and before that i go keep your ram at the same fsb but get your proc to run a much lower speed thru the dividers and see if the ram is falling the high fsb , you cant focus on the proc to we know what your ram can do , makes things much easier

    q9650

This is the best Ive been able to do with this CPU for 24/7 use without temps getting to high. May try for higher clocks eventually but for now I'm pretty burned out with this CPU. Normally I would be pretty happy with these clocks but already have a q9550 that will do 4.0ghz and on less voltages clock for clock, with temps much cooler.

Well, I've managed to find some prime stability at 505*8.5 which is 4.3GHz. However, I can't seem to do any better with the 9x multiplier. I really wanted to get to 4.4-4.5GHz but maybe that's not possible with this CPU. I switched from the P5Q-E to the UD3P in the hope of higher clocks but I'm still learning about the board... BIG TIME. I've tried various templates that I've found on here but not had much luck.

I have one line of attack left, a new Corsair TX 750 should be with me on tuesday!

->OC Nub: Nice Vcore for that 9x460

BTW, my sensors are stucked whatever Vcore I put:
    Core 1&2 @ 34°minimum
    Core 4 @41°minimum
But no problem with charges, it seems to work

This is the lowest i can go on vcore using the Gskills PC29600 at 1227 PL8 TURBO profile, with not so tight timmings maybe i can go a bit low but is very good as it is

    GG on the Vcore!!!
    A little hot for Core#1...

    I can't reach more than 9x455 @ 1.30~1.31v
I'll try to do some better bios setting I think.

    Thanks,
I think all my sensors are stuck at idle, never go below 36c on 1&2, 3&4 normally stay at 41-42c no matter the vcore but even out under load.

Very nice andressergio!! You have a great chip there, congrats

I agree these sensors or all of with the q9650 but its been this way since the first one was produced... Ill take that as a hit for how they produce anyways they start to work after idle 40C and up so no problem thats when i need to know its working !!!!!

thought id give a heads up.i think im going to be getting rid of my Q9650 and my g.skill 9600 2x2GB kit. open to trades(dual core+cash)if anyone is interested PM me.just want to see if theres an interest before i post it in the F/S section.the reason is im tired of only being able to go so high(fsb) with quad and 2x2GB,had more fun with dual and 2x1GB d9 gkx/gmh with this board(550+fsb)

I'm planning on upgrading my mobo. My DFI DK P45 served me well with my E8600 but fails short with my new Q9650 and heavy ram load. I see a lot people using Gigabyte boards and achieving high clocks, so i'm planning on getting one. What would be the better board for the job, the EP45-UD3P or the EP45-Extreme? (I prefer the latter due to the fact it has native watercooling on the NB which fits perfectly with my WC-system plus the number and position of the PCIe slots is a pro for me )
    Proc: Q9650 9x496 @ 1.440v batch L844B703
    Ram: 2x2GB OCZFlexII PC-9200 4:5 1240MHz 6-6-6-18 @ 2.12v
    Mobo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3P rev 1.0 - bios F9b
Video: 2x Palit Dual Sonic HD4870 1GB in CF (840/4400)
PSU: OCZ PowerStream 520W + Thermaltake VGA 450W
    HDD: 3x250Gb Barracuda 7.10 SATA2 Raid0 (ICHR10) 2x200Gb Barracuda 7.10 SATA2 Raid1 (ICHR10)
    Audio: Audigy 4
Case: Dual Coolermaster Stacker; one for system rig and one for watercooling loop and cooling

DFI DK P45 T2RS Plus is very good for extreme 2D benching, EP45-UD3P & EP45T-UD3P are good for daily use with low VCores...
