Thx for the testing. It's quite impressive how on 1680x1050 there's only minimal FPS drop going to AA4x and AA in Crysis makes it look like a whole new game, those screens are really nice. I thought u maybe used some texture mods at first but then I saw 4xAA... Too bad only a few cards can handle Crysis with AA. The temps are much better than I had expected. But I guess you're testing without a comp case as temps on ur GPU tests are always somewhat low so I'd expect for the average user it will prolly run slightly hotter but nice nonetheless.

i was thinking about temps too low while running atitool (very strange)

so i decided run AMDGPUTool which report temps while playing and with the right 3d clocks & Voltages !

i found that temps are higher compared with temps running Atitool (because atitool are running with 2D clocks & Voltages )

    Temps with AMDGPUTool

    Automatic FAN (27%)
    Playing Cod 4

    ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [0] (C) = 93.5º (core0)
    ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [1] (C) = 73.5º (core1)

    MCLK(MHz)[0] = 900, SCLK(MHz)[0] = 750 ( memory/core 0 clocks )
    MCLK(MHz)[1] = 900, SCLK(MHz)[1] = 750 ( memory/core 1 clocks )

    ----------------------------

    Manual Fan Speed = 40%
    Playing Grid

    00:41:17

    ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [0] (C) = 72º (core 0)
    ASIC Temperature via internal TSS [1] (C) = 61.5º (core 1)

    MCLK(MHz)[0] = 900,SCLK(MHz)[0] = 750 ( memory/core 0 clocks )
    MCLK(MHz)[1] = 900 , SCLK(MHz)[1] = 750 ( memory/core 1 clocks )

Do you know if there is any microstuttering? I read a few reviews early on that said it was eliminated, then a friend (who is stuck in the step up program, thus biased) linked me to one that said it stutters. I realize it's almost impossible to completely eliminate micro-stuttering, it can be drastically minimized to an extent that the human eye cannot tell the difference. Does anybody know if they have they fixed it?

TweakTown was using a P45 which was choking for bandwidth. Not nearly enough to handle these beasts.

only the usual mini breaks in crysis when Saving Game , Big explosions , etc , there is no stutering like 3870X2 @ Big FPS drops !

    Grid runs OK

    Cod4 runs OK

    added Grid SS "in game"

Not sure if you missed my earlier post Mascaras - but is there any chance that when you are done can you run some tests with a 4870 and the 4870x2 in trifire? (that is if you still have the 4870 you tested previously?)

    thanks

woul cpu speed really affect his performance that much?

I could understand the effect of fsb speed, but at such high cpu clocks is it really going to be the cpu that's bottleneckign things?

I notice now that Tweaktown used XP.

I thought 4 way crossfire and 4 way SLI didn't work in xp!

I believe that for quad sli and quad crossfire yes a 3ghz cpu is a bottleneck.

    hey guys.
    please help.
i got an engineering sample of 4870x2
the only driver that i managed to install is the one that I got with the videocard, but
its SO buggy that it renders the gpu practically unusable. (driver ver. 8.54-080811n-021649E-ATI)
when i tried to install sampleHD4800X2VISTA8-52-2 (normal 8.52) that is linked in this thread, installation worked perfectly,
but upon reboot, computer is not recognizing driver.
device manager states : "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
also the driver is _not_ digitall signed.
can that be the reason, or is it because I have an engineering sample?
    please help(

    gpu-z taken on 8.54 -
I've uploaded bios, someone told me that bios was patched and control sum is off. how bad is that? (noobish question, but please bear with me)
link to dumped bios - http://maxsteep.googlepages.com/R700.bin

can anyone __pleease__ upload whatever drivers and apps (a cd image would be amazing) and a gpu-z bios dump somewhere (mihd.net is a good free method) PLEASE?
because i need to either leave it or quickly try to return it. on vista x64 no driver is installable, except the one i mentioned before, turning on aa in 3dmark vantage gives _mad_ artifacts
can it be disabled because bios is modded? can anyone take a look at mine using TechPowerUp Radeon Bios Editor v1.13 ? http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...tor_v1.13.html
i desperately need some help ^^

    hey)
    thanks for answering!
nope, bot fresh, but i'm using driver cleaner upon every reinstall, so it should be fine..
do you have any problems running 3dmark vantage under extreme preset?
as soon as enable aa my 4870x2 goes _mad_
can it be because mine is not a retail sample, or just some glitches with drivers?
*sigh* i wish i didnt get this damn one. but for 450cad (no taxes for obvious reasons) how could one refuse?..

yes i can run vantage xtreme ( results 1st page)

hmm it could be both , because is a retail sample or glitches with drivers/OS (maybe drivers/OS)

PS: did you already tried install the catalyst 8.7 ???

catalyst 8.7 doesn't even recognize the video card (i'm pretty sure its not supposed to, since it is dated 20th july and the launch was on aug, 12)
    4870 x2 shipped with 8.52 (8.8 beta i think)
i did manage to install 8.52 by cutting/pasting actual driver folder into the whole unpacked setup one.
i still get _m.a.d._ artifacts in 3dmark vantage with aa on.
    most other games are okayish
crysis runs like a charm, just a tad slower than on your rig.
it seems that mine is a plug-and-pray type of device ^^
i _really_ hope that first official 8.8 will be installable on this thingy...
could you dump your bios via gpu-z and upload it somewhere? i would really appreciate it.
