New E8400 are these normal temps??

as you can see its priming on both cores, voltage I have set in bios at 1.3875v. I find this a flipping high temperature or do these chips just run hot as hell??? Idle temp is 55°C.

PS : when i touch my heatsink base(Tuniq Tower 120), then it doesn't even feel like its more than 25°C, so what gives??? If it would really be 70°C wouldn't I be able to feel it on my heatpipes?

Coretemp is core temperature, not related to CPU. The TRUE will be cool to the touch even at 80°C n the cores in my expierience.

I also find your temperatures way too high for a 45nm chip at that OC/voltage

Would you try to reseat the heatsink maybe. Otherwise, there's some reports on brokens DTS sensors on the E8xxx series, but I can't tell much about it

Well when I go into bios it says my temperature of the CPU is 40°C, is that the figure I should believe then?? I don't think I have seated my sink wrong cuz it works with screws with springs, there's no way you can seat it wrong, its tight on the processor with the right amount of paste.

yes those temps seems high, by about 7-10degree if i compare to what mine does
btw i don't think you need 1.336 for doing 3600, i do 3400 @ 1.2

Try to reseat your Cooler and put a good thermic paste like MX-2 with caution and try it again.

Ok will look for that Mx-2, is there a good way to put on paste, I allways put a small dab right smack in the middle after which I seat my sink, is that good? I also read that some people apply vertical lines over the cpu for dual cores, which way is best??

You'll get a thousand different answers from a thousand people on that one. Your method sounds fine. Look around, you'll find many threads here where your question is answered.

Seems like a little too much vcore, with 1.36 i can get my 8400 to 4.2 on air...

I would reseat your HSF, and lower vcore a bit.

How is ventilation in your case? how many fans? exhaust or intake?

two intake fans, one exhaust, all of them 120mm, case is CM stacker.

i've reseated my TRUE quite a few times, with and without the penny mod, different amounts of thermal paste, and i still reach around those temps at that voltage. honestly, i wouldn't worry about it.

although i can do 3.7 on stock voltage, you should try lowering it.

1.36 is way too much voltage for 3.6,try to lower your cpu vcore and check your other voltages of ram,sb,nb etc,there might be problem some where else rather than your cpu voltage.

memory voltage 2.25v(corsair dominator and it needs 2.2v standard)
CPU Core Voltahe 1.375v
FSB Termination Voltage 1.3v
NB Vcore 1.45v
SB Vcore 1.50v
ICH Chipset Voltage 1.057v

I cannot set any other voltages in my bios, have bios 1219 for my P5B deluxe, now I am running stable at 422x9= 3.8Ghz.

So what will get me to 4.0Ghz?? I did notice that increasing NB vcore made my superpi stable, before I could not get it stable and it would fail after 0.5sec, so after starting it, now I can complete every run. I read somewhere in the big post of E8400 that setting this high a FSBTV is considered bad and would degrade my chip, also, why is 1.4v bad if you can get to 4.0Ghz with it, also is it safe to try 500x8, would that be stressing the chip?

Too bad ya got a crappy clocker there Cappie... my friends E8400 does 3.6 1.18 and 4ghz at 1.32...

They say like running 1.4 volts on these compares to run 1.55 volts with 65nm CPU's and really these babies run pretty hot (again if we can believe the temps read out ) Dirk's one is at 45°C at idle ( under water ) and 65°C under load full prime small FFT's at 4ghz... which I can believe, my QX9650 is at 45°C idle at stock speeds lol...

Ja das echt balen he, dus wat zou jij doen Leeghoofd, gewoon op 3.8Ghz laten staan dan, of stiekem proberen naar 4.0ghz met ietsje hoger volt. Is 1.4v echt zo slecht voor deze chips, mijn E6300 die draaide op 3.2Ghz op 1.41v of ietsje meer. Misschien morgen of overmorgen eens proberen met die nieuwe TIM en een reseat, maar hoger dan 1.4v geef ik het nooit.

Is FSB termination voltage the same as CPU VTT voltage on DFI? If so, definitely lower it way down to 1.2 max, and if you have the option lower your GTL's way down (low 60's on DFI).
