New sapphire HD3870

Sapphire never let us down, They are now working on another version HD3870. This edition even higher than the Atomic version which just released to reviewers. The card have a dual slot cooler, four heatpipes totally and a very high Frequency.

It is a pity that these spy pics only have got shots on the power module part. Source said another two heatpipes are in the left side of the card. The cooler itself reminds me of NVIDIA 7900GTX.







The GPU frequency is at 904MHz, and core tempature is only 60 centidegree after the card done a 3Dmark05 and 3Dmark06 test. Source said Sapphire did not raise the voltage.

so that card would logically come with the "fixed" bios version that doesnt need to be flashed by digging out an ancient floppy drive to get past the oc limits of "normal" 3870 cards?

if yes, that would be a pretty good argument to buy one

I decided the Atomic would look excellent as a display item and I still want one. This looks interesting though. Who's going to be the first site to publish benchies? And yeah as previous poster stated, not dealing with relfashing BIOS is a benefit. I'm also going to go out on a limb and say if that's stock volts, they have a good board with some decent power regulation, also welcome.

Wow impressive clock to be stock clock offered by a manufacturer. And yea that's the EXACT same cooler I have on my 7900GTO and it's still the best stock cooler ever I think as far as performance/noise level ratio and design goes (looks nice). Kind of funny how ATI has the same cooler that NVIDIA used on their cards.

I run caseless and I have to put my air next to the fan to be able to hear it when it's at fullspeed to be able to exclude a faint noise. Keeps my overclocked 7900GTO 58 ~ 60C at full load during winter, mind it's a 90nm card...

The rumor said that AMD was working on a new silicon revision specially for HD3870X2 which suposedly was better optimized for power.

Anyone can confirm that?

Same! I really wish Nvidia had just stuck with this cooler on their 8800 cards also. I'm reluctant to let it go Now if this Sapphire card really can do what the op mentions and at a decent price.. who knows, I might actually switch.

I wonder how much the cost will be, I personally am going to get the HIS 3870 iceq3 turbo as 850mhz core will be plenty for me not to mention its out already, but for people still waiting for prices to settle this might not be a bad choice

Most certainly a new revision die if vGPU has indeed not changed. This means better clocking HD3850 and HD3870 cards will hit the market soon

I bet these new revision dies will be on the dual-RV670 solution cards too

Not yet. I've spoken with w1zzard again but he couldn't update me yet. He's busy reporting CES this week, so no work on ATITool atleast untill next week.

if only it was real, 900mhz + needs 1.4V gpu and thats not on the cards as of now and would need a new pwm system since i cant see a factory volt mod

It would be awesome if they got away from the pathetic stock cooler. The only reason that people might think these cards run hot is because of the stock cooler.

On WCing, the 3870 loaded 3c higher than idle, and 15c lower than my 8800GTS 320mb. MCW60 on the 3870 and Stealth on the 8800.

I'm actually more interested in the Atomic because of all the extras it comes with. Especially that awesome brief case.

Well, I did modify my old 7900GTO cooler a few weeks back to fit my HD3870 and it required some cutting here and there to fit.

It did fit though, but I needed to make chims for the mems as I didn't have the pads with the right thickness.

I removed the fan and plastic shroud and then sealed it up completely with cardbox material on the sides, bottom and top, then I mounted two 92mm fans just above each side with the fins and with ducting out off chassi to front and back. (a very small HTPC chassis)

With fans on 70% and 1.415v on core I got 958MHz core and 49C on load, but then my HIS HD 3870 was a relly good sample. (except mems that gave only 1250MHz, not good enough to keep)

I've sold the card and decided to mount a small waterloop instead, if I use a double 80mm rad it will fit snugly and no noice.
