    cant make up my mind.

    one :
    go for a cheap 8800gtx + e8500

    two:
pick up a new 8800gts when its available + e8500

    three :
    amd 3870 + QX9650/9770

    four :
wait for the new 9 series

atm I'm just going insane, my current system sucks. Its a x1950GT 512 + e2140, rest is fairly good ( p5k-e , 2x 1gb d9gmh , 620 enermax etc. ) the only thing i also want to upgrade is my harddrives, need some space. But cpu and gfx must be upgraded first... so i can put them on ln2 asap.

Here is my thought (only GFX, not the cpu ):

    one :
    go for a cheap 8800gtx + e8500

8800GTX is to expensive when there is a little brother 8800GT that is doing as good as the GTX and much cheaper!

    two:
pick up a new 8800gts when its available + e8500

This is a very good choice, the 8800GTS will be a little slower then the older 8800ultra highend card, but much cheaper and has better Overclock potential (smaller die)

    three :
    amd 3870 + QX9650/9770

A single 3870 is slower then a single 8800GT. Crossfire with 3870 is still instable in order to achieve full CF potential. You might wait for X2.

    four :
wait for the new 9 series

The newest nvidia High-end card will be promising. But $$ i guess.

I love the new cooler. It doesn't have slits like the GTX and it appears to be throwing it all outside the case. This makes it so much easier to optimize airflow in an SLI setup wo/ resorting to add in coolers for us slightly less xtreme guys.

Anybody know where I can find an FF add on that tracks stock of the latest gpu's?

I can get a second hand GTX for 250 and a second hand gt goes for even a litte more than new retail because their not available over here. And as said before... i doubt the gt is faster than the gtx @ 2560x1600.

if it's using the same g92 core as the GT, why the hell does it need a dual slot cooler? it's gotta be a g80 revised.

The single slot BARELY is adequate for the GT. This is a g92 core (512Mb), probably runs a tad higher clocks than the GT and has a tad more shaders. Ir eckon benchs will show this beat an Ultra (which is a GTX OC).

8800 GTS 512MB almost as fast as GTX
    In 3Dmark06

We managed to get an early sneak peak into 8800GTS 512MB 3Dmark06 performance and it looks like the new card will be a nail away from the 8800GTX.

This is also the case in older 3Dmark benchmarks, there is just a 100 point score difference between the Geforce 8800 GTX and 8800 GTS 512MB.

It will still be interesting to see how it will perform in games, but a 650MHz clocked card with 128 Shaders has a lot more to offer and it will likely come overclocked, at least from some vendors

nope, cause the g92 creates a decent amount of heat, and when you increase clock speeds, voltages, ect.. it draws more power.

I dunno, you must have some magic cards for them to only get to 46°C under load with the stock cooler... and even OCd

mine probably idled at that temp before i removed the stock cooler... along with most peoples.

i don't know how i got 5 GT 's that all run the same temps and are "magical" especially knowing that 3 of them are evga sc's, and the other 2 are msi's. all 5 cards run about the same temps at 740/1000.... 95f-115f.

now that i've switched out the cooler's on 2 of them... temps pretty much stay under 100f all the time.

i don't mean to hijack the thread, but i'm curious as to what resolution you run, and what applications or games your using to measure your load temps?

almost any review you read that measures temps with the stock cooler will probably show temps of 80°C or over 90°C if they didn't max out the fan speed. Same applies to most other people's personal experiences, that i've read in threads here and other places on the internet. i've even seen it with my card, which is why i am skeptic.

well, fan speed is set to 60% (because anything faster wont drop temps any more and is just louder...for mine at least)

temps are measured with rivatuner, and everest.

i've used 3dmark06/05, crysis, call of duty 4, medal of honor:airbourne, and stalker to provide load on my GT's to measure temps.

room temp is around 68f usually, which is cold for most people. maybe that has something to do with my low temps?

ALSO>>> almost forgot.... before i started OCing my cards i took off the heatsink and replaced the stock paste with MX-2. < that's probably why

    I'm guessing you mean 95C-115C because 95f-115f is 35C-46C and that's cool.

    FAHRENHEIT not CELSIUS.

95F-115F or 35C-46C thats my average temps with stock coolers (with MX-2 on gpu's)
