    DDC 12v Pump Mod *Pic's*

    DDC 12v Pump Mod
    I decided to follow the guide from coolercases.co.uk and attempt to mod the DDC 12v pump. This was mainly as i use 1/2 barbs and i wanted a better look and the bigger barbs will help flow rate..

    This pump is very quite and small so is perfect for a CPU and Gfx card setup. There are big and better but i plan to houses this in a Lan Boy case so need a small pump.

    Technical data

    * Motor design: Electronically commutated, brushless DC, spherical motor Voltage Range: 6 to 13.2 VDC
    * Motor rated at: 18W
    * Maximum system pressure: 22 PSI
    * Maximum flow @ 13.2 volts = 400 LPH
    * Temperature range: Up to 140?F (60?C)

    Tools & Kit
    Drill
    Arodite
    Filler
    1/2 Barbs
    File
    Sandpaper - 1200Grit - 600Grit
    Spray - Primer - Colour's

    Time Taken
    2-3Hrs depending on Skill and Quality outcome.

    The Pump Stock & Striped Down

    Phase 1. Fitting Outlet 1/2 Barb
    I had to drill out the centre and file down the edges and cut of the Plastic Outlet Barb as i was going to fit the Barb at the top.

    Fitting Inlet barb to 1/2
    I also added a 1/2 Barb to the Inlet and filed down the inside for increased flow altho its not showen in these pics. It was the same mentod as the Outlet Barb.

    Place & Seal 1/2 Barb
    I used AroDite around the Barb and checked It was sealed properly

    Filler & Tape the Barbs and Spraying the Pump
    Tape Up And spray the pump with primer and tape over the barbs, then check to see its flat and sand down with 1200grit Paper to smoothen off.

    The Final Outcome.
    I decided to go with Blue for the Top after i had to sand it back down to smoothen out yet again. Took some time but well worth it.

    Testing
    I run the pump for around 4hrs checking for leaks. It was perfect and i can say its a mod well done.

    The Conclusion
    This Mod has taken around 3hrs all in all and was a pain. I can say i would be alot quicker if i was to atempt it again as i was fussy about the final look when it was silver. It also was the first time ive used filler since having my old escort.

    Hey, is this 18w revision? ( I see orange impeller, but who knows ... )

    And did you notice any noise difference after modding?

    What about vibrations?

    Anyway, looks amazing and should perform very well
    And thanks for Pics!

    Mate to be honest its for a project build, Im fitting water into a Lan Boy Case so havent had chance to test it.

    Altho when running it on the Bench when testing it really needed rasing as of the vibration was still alot.. Altho
    this was the first time id run it for more than 5minutes so not sure what it was like before.

    the orange impeller is the 18w version. Nice looking mod. I tried to order a 10w only to receive an 18w. If I keep this one, I am going to do the flow mod also, although I don't think I will go through the trouble like you did to fill in the top. I wish you had some pics of the inlet as I haven't seen anyone mod that.

    Yeah dam sorry mate, Basically what i did was cut the inlet in half and then arodite the barb which is cut, to the inlet plastic which is left on the pump. Then once it set i fillered over it.

    Sorry about that mate i really thought i had taken pictures of the whole project, a less learnt

    10W has ~3.9m head and 420LPM
    18W has ~4.7m head and 600LPM + is a bit noisier (not too much, but noticable)

    Is there a noticable difference in the performance between the 10W and
    the 18W version? I would like to keep my system as silent as I can, so if
    the difference is barely noticable, the 10W pump would be a better choice.

    Is this pump able to be controlled via voltage to regulate the noise output, As many buy this pump for low noise maybe this could be an option.

    I thought about this. The problem for most people is that a pump pulls a lot more amperage than fan controllers can handle. I have a large rheostat that can 10 amps/25watts that I have considered using, but that is way more than a fan controller.

    Yes i see, shame as the main thing this over the D5 is size altho the D5 can be turned down

    Also i check the pump im using is a 18w altho its stated to only push 420lph, this must be incorrect then. Im happy with the final outcome on this pump, just got to get the rest of the Case modded and ready

    I think that's a little harsh... But the9093 seriously needs to realize that his post-count buffing is so obvious it hurts...

    You have to at least be somewhat subtle about it man.
