Hummm the cheapest 6800 gs is 309$ here but the 7800 gt is 525$...both from MSI...
I thought the 7800gs would have a spot between those 2...
My wallet would have loved it.....
WTF?!
The gap between 6800GS and 7800GT is way too wide, and 7800GS was the perfect gap filler. I sure hope it's another PR bait for ATI XD
Not a good move from Nvidia.
IT is a perfect move for nVidia.. They don't fill gaps they hit the main Target audiances

i think the more video cards in a line up the better...
if i have money but i dont want a 6800gs cuz is too low and i dont have enough for a 7800gt i will look for ati and see what fills my needs .
i think is not smart... maybe they are getting ready for the 7200 and 7600 who knows...

Well, on the bright side, there's less product confusion.
I guess this means the 6800GS will last longer. That is until it's replaced by the 7600 in February or whenever it hits next year.

Maybe 7800GS will face the retail when NVidia will have their 90nm tech process accomplished ?
The 7800Gs will only see the light of day WHEN the G80s are out

I wouldn't say that nn_step... NVidia has, for awhile, made sure that every card in a current generation all have the same features.
G80 is a unified shader piece, why would they release a 7800gs when they release a unified shader part, considering the 7800gs is dx9c, and the g80 is dx10. They'd break their current pattern.
I'm sure this card will be used somewhere, NVidia just wasn't ready for the people to see it.
the 6800Gs only showed up because they want to get rid of all their left over 6 series chips as fast as possible

Good point...
I think Nvidia is going to release a 7 series with 16 pipes. They are just putting this out to alleviate any effect the 7800 gs review had on their current plan. You have to ask yourself why 7800gs is in the drivers and why does the card identify it self as a 7800gs. And the specs and performance make sense. Also the whole developer story supports my argument also. Don't you think game developers would like to see what is going to be the dominant value card so they can develope their games to be able to play on it.

This might very well just be another OEM card (such as 6800GTO), since that very well could be excluded from the definition of public consumption (as well as the AGP argument). But it probably won't go into (big) production unless it has its own 16-pipe core (such as the NV41) or yields are getting worse (stock pile of bad silicon). Oth, I wouldn't trust what nVidia says much... NV47 canned... NV50 canned... yeah. Rite.
I don't think so,Originally Posted by nn_step
For agp versions they have to get a whole new batch from tsmc to compensate agp shortages and for pci-x they should have an improved production proces for the high clockspeeds.
( I wonder how they get that clockspeed to agp)
But anyway i think it would be a shame if they didn't release a 7800gs
If it was out there for about 250-300 i would buy it
You can get 7800GT for less than 300![]()
I believe this is true. I was wondering why they would release a 6 series and this makes scenceOriginally Posted by nn_step

they can simply use their Bridge chip to make a 7800GS usable for AGP.

First of all, I have said this many times and I will say it once more. ATi is getting the smackdown. The current generation of nvidia is about to last season in Q1 2006. You are most likely going to see the 7800GT be the value card of tommorow.
I cringe in fear of the new upcoming flagship from the big n in Q1. THey really are going to catch ATi with its pants down on this one. And if you havent read the news release oabout nvidia releasing the new cards in Q1, you need to read more =p

wel nothing is perfect but there is stil a nice market for people with an AGP system that dont yet wanan go PCI-Express.
seeing the fastest AGP cards of the moment r hard to get cause ATI/Nvidia want to get rid of them.
Ok u got interesting cards like a 6800GS and X800GTO2 but one isnt SM3.0 and the other is only to get rid of stock.
Yes u can argue the X800GTO2 has SM2.0b but i somehow doubt many future SM3.0 games will have an extra path making use of ATIs 2.0b.
so i think that there is an actual market for a nice fast card on AGP and maybe them buyers will take this performence drop caused by the bridge chip.
Ofc ATI could also make an AGP card but (correct me when im wrong) i believe their bridge chip is on-die wich would force them to make 2 product lines of the same chip 1 for AGP and 1 for PCI-Express. Wich if the AGP one sells bad could leave u with unsold Stock wich u then got to dump.

Indeed the 7800gt can be picked up for under 300$
A 7800gs would have to cost the same as the 6800gs currently does
(about 250-275 eu here in holland)
So it seems manufacturers are selling the 6800gs overpriced which leaves little room for the 7800 gs.
Damn shame it is!
yeah thats the bit i am atm hating. in holland the 6800GS starts at 260.
in germany it starts at 220 (wich i stil think is to high.
the 7800GS in germany also starts at 290.
im happy i live near the border of germany and got family there whoms adress i can use to deliver stuff to.
id happy if the dutch shops would start asking normal prices like the german ones even tho i also think those r to high
