    Talking ~Intel Core i3/i5 32nm Dual Core OverCLARKing Thread~

Thought i'd start an i3/i5 32nm dualcore overclocking thread since there really aren't any out there or here.
and the i5 threads are filled with quadcores.i hope everyone will post their results in this thread too
thanks to Chosen.for the dualcore idea.if anyone has any tips or links for me to post let me know.
please post your batch number in your post,in case someone decides to start a batch number database
we will have the data here for them to use.

There are a few bugs, like cpuz and everest reporting the wrong cas latency at higher frequencies.
you can use old versions of cpuz(1.52.3) and there is an updated one for version 1.53.2 w/o validation.
you can see in some of my screenshots this bug at work.
coretemp(0.99.5) also needs an update,it seems to display distance to Tjmax for its temperature reading

    links for cpuz and CPU-Tweaker
    cpuz 1.53.2 updated for clarkdale's cas# version w/no validation
    cpuz1.53.2

    cpuz 1.54
    cpuz 1.54

CPU-Tweaker 1.4 final reports cas latency correctly.
    CPU-Tweaker 1.4 final

Heres a link to the voltage specs from intel for the i3/i5 series
IntelŪ Core™ i5-600, i3-500 Desktop Processor Series and IntelŪ PentiumŪ Processor G6950 Series Datasheet,

I was concerned when i saw the temp of the GMCH in everest as it was always at 57c -60c.
The Graphics Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) is located on the die for the integrated graphics processor (IGP)
which itself is on the CPU package.i couldnt get the temps below 57c no matter how cold my cpu was, even
when i got the cpu temps down to 5c-8c the GMCH was always at 55c-60c.I was told not to worry about it.
    so i dont anymore

calling all i3/i5 dualcore owners.post your results and overclocking tips.

Please Post Your Batch Numbers.Thank You

please leave as much info as possible to help others with their OC's

    1.List your full batch number.
2.what you stock vcore is(vid) for your batch
    3.which motherboard you used.
4.what kind of cooling method your using.
5.any kind of tips or insights that helped you achieve your OC.

i5-600 owners be careful with your chips, these 32nm's are easy to kill.
i3-500 owners just clock the hell out of them,i mean its less than 140$

If you do kill your chip, please post how and what types of voltages you used

thanks OC Nub,still haven't figured out how to get 237bclk to work though.
but hey 235 is pretty good for a sub $100 board.

    *************************MY RESULTS SO FAR*************************************
heres some of my results with my i3-530 and Gigabyte H55M-UD2H and 1600 ripjaws all on air w/AC
the i3-530's batch number is 3935B025,which i found strange since most of the batches i see posted start
with L395.i'm using the G.skill ripjaws 1600's cl9 kit,not a bad set but i'll need to get a better kit to go higher
So i started straight at 21x200@4200 and went from there. For cooling im using a Thermaltake Mini-Typhoon
with a VantacTornado 92x38mm mounted on top, had to modify the pushpin bracket so it would work on my
    H55M-UD2H.

    i3-530 Results

    21x200@4200 1.26v ddr3-1600 8-8-8-24 Prime95 blend 1hr 22m

looks like 4.3GHz is good, now i'll skip to 4.5GHz next

    Hey Radaja,

    how does 4.5ghz feel on the i3 530 ddr3 vs. your old 4.5ghz e8400 UD3R ddr2?

it feels about the same,at least for me it does but in benchmarks like
everest's CPU Queen and CPU PhotoWorxx you can see the difference
with the two extra cores w/HT on.almost scores as well as my Q9650.

    i3 530 3941B415
    Vid: 1.1875v
    Pack Date: 12/16/09

This is on a P55-UD5 and currently using only the Intel retail box cooler, waiting on new rad to arrive.

    3.85ghz no vcore increase
    4.10ghz @ 1.25 bios (1.19v load)
    4.20ghz @ 1.30 bios (1.24v load)
    4.31ghz @ 1.35 bios (1.29v load)
    4.43ghz @ 1.4125v bios (1.35v load)

Stopped there due to temps (88c load in p95), still stable.

Have been running blend for the last few days to try and max the bclk and mem out. So far havent had to do much....

Currently testing 18x230 having passed 18x229. 8x mem multi, 8-7-7-24-1T timings, 36x QPI (finding unstable with QPI>2xcpu regardless of overclock). Still mild on voltage, left cpu volts at 1.4125v, set qpi/vtt to 1.34v and ddr to 1.64v and started raising fsb. Have so far only had to bump vddr, still sitting pretty at 230bclk 1.34vtt and priming. Couple of hours ill up it again to 233 and see how that goes. Im guessing itll need a memory volts bump again but im getting concerned about vddr>vtt+0.5v - is this still an issue on i3 and i5, or is it only the i7 that needs to follow this rule?

24/7 speed is 4.4ghz, I can do 4.8ghz easily but that run was just for lolz.
Only needed around 1.36v for 4.6 to be solid.

OK guys I'm going to bite soon.

Question: Which motherboard (p55, h55, h57, etc.) to best overclock an i3 540 to 4.6ghz? If h55 - which? Also, is ddr3 2000 necessary or will ddr3 1600 cut it?

well i cant speak to the P55's but this gigabyte H55M-UD2H has gotten me 235bclk
not a bad board for a micro ATX board.ive heard good things about the biostar Matx's too.
you will need either H55 or H57 if you plan on using the cpu's integrated graphics though.

also does anyone know the max temps for the i3's?im afraid of going above 65c because
of all the dead i5's from extreme OCing.i've looked everywhere but cant find the exact
    thermal specs for these cpu's

Well they don't throttle until they report 105c (at least mine doesnt anyway) so I wouldn't worry .

Accidentally ran prime at 4.2ghz with the fan unplugged...

Have seen reports of 250+ bclk on air cooling on the H55 and H57 boards. Yet to see if thats useable in daily tasks though (single channel mem, silly relaxed timings, mega volts maybe? no idea...). H55 and H57 are still a bit new, doubt we'll get much info on them yet. Anyone who is playing with an i3 at the moment seems to have either bought the cheapest overclockable H55 they can find or are just using a P55.

I went for the P55-UD5 incase I want a cpu upgrade (and because I got a really good price on it). I was chosing between Asus H55D, Gigabyte H55 UD3, EVGA P55 SLI (E655), DFI DK, P55-UD5 and P55A-UD3R. The UD5 was cheapest in the end...

    thanks for the info PiLsY

LagunaX,heres some everest benchmarks and i realized that when i did my 235bclk run
i had my command rate on auto while upping my bclk and at some point it changed to 2t
so i manually set it to 1t and scored some better results for my everest cache benchmark
you can see the everest cas latency bug at work.reporting cl10 instead of cl9.
finally broke 60ns for my latency

Now, if only you changed the topic from "i3 overclocking" to "dual core i3/i5 overclocking" to get more responses
I cannot find a thread for dual core i5 results

Chosen, thats not a bad idea.im going to see if i can get the thread name changed
    to the ~intel core i3/i5 32nm dualcore overclocking thread~
done.so now we need all i3/i5 dualcore owners to post tips and results here

    heres the i5 OCing thread
    ** OFFICIAL ** Core i5 Overclocking Results/Tips Thread

they do have some dualies in there, and you can find them in a lot of P55 MB threads.thats kind of why i made this thread as there are no i3's
in these i5/i7 OC threads.so i just started this one to try and gather results from the i3-530/540's and get tips and batch numbers.

Glad you changed the thread name.

I have the i5-660, it is a blast to play with these new 32nm chips.

This is using a Corsair H50 cpu cooler (with AC), and a 2x1gb kit of memory, it requires a little more voltage with a 4gb kit.

Also, a problem with CoreTemp that I searched the net a bit and could not find anything anywhere, which means that I don't know if it's a problem with the 32nm cpus, or with my cpu specifically, or with CoreTemp: it displays Tjmax instead of temperature. So when I am idle it shows 75C and when I start heating it up with some 7z or Winrar bench, it gradually goes "down" to 50C.
HWMonitor & RealTemp work like a charm.

    Example

    Idle

    Load
    i5 660 / Asrock P55M Pro / Ripjaws / GTS250

These are good overclockers, temps doesn't run too hot but only issue is that they are dual cores If only we have some good 32nm quads.

that's my highest with both cores and HT enabled.

    chip: i3-540
    board: Gigabyte H55M-S2H

My highest with only 1 core enabled and no HT is somewhere north of 5ghz with 1.6 vcore and I forget the qpi. still haven't gotten below 8 seconds on spi1m but that's all good I'm not worried about it. my 24/7 speed is 200x23@4600mhz(1.375vcore) with default QPI(x32 I think?) and def ram values. I'm pretty lazy lol.

the diff between this one and my e6400(I ran it @3.5ghz) is HUGE. FPS on l4d2 and css went up massively. great cpu I highly recommend for the price.

oh and hey do you guys run with HT on or HT off? I can turn my 24/7 oc up like 100mhz with HT off and I don't notice any diff in performance with it on...

EDIT:: LOL, posted my e6400 instead of my i3 540...

here's mine, on el cheapo biostar H55, on el cheapo stock cooler, and yes, that's a stolen win7 . just started the p95 stress. so what can i expect voltages to be for 4.5ghz? i'm kinda new to this chip, so i have no idea what a good ballpark is.

WhiteFireDragon, nice OC.those biostar H55's are supposed to be great OCing boards.
as to vcore mine needs 1.39v load for 4.5 but ive seen a few do it with 1.36v to 1.39v range.

well... i got bored with the i3 in about 2 min, so i decided to start playing with the i5-661, with a different cheap biostar H55 , except with a better cooler than stock. i'll probably keep playing with this chip until i get bored again, then it's back to the i3. here it is, same clocks, same voltages, and almost same mobo...

i'm noticing something really strange with the voltage regulation with both my i3 and i5 dual cores. the higher the multiplier, the higher the vcore will increase (read from cpuz) without changing any voltages in the bios. i was stressing my i5 at 22 x 205mhz (4.5ghz) and cpuz read around 1.34v. then i did the same 4.5ghz with 25 x 180mhz and the voltages shot up to 1.40v in cpuz. i also saw this trend on my i3-530. i'm not sure if it's the mobo or the whole 1156 platform, but i just know that s775 did not do this with multiplier increase.

can anyone else test this out? try setting your multiplier to 15 first, then change it to the max and see if the vcore automatically increases.
