    ►►►Project Supernova: Black Edition◄◄◄

Its my first log here is XS so i hope you guys like it. Im located in Singapore btw. (I had made a log previously under the same name here, but i decided to redo it as that was a long while ago. I also retook the pictures as it was pretty badly taken back then.)

Why Name It As Project Supernova?
Theme in mind is Orange/Black and Chrome. Hence the name

    System Specifications
Will get new hardware once the case is ready to harbor it. I have this nasty tendency of taking an extremely long time to get my mods done so if i bought the hardware first before starting the mods, they tend to get obsolete before i even get the chance to use them. But for now, these are my current system specs. (pretty old school stuff as compared to the present gen of hardware)

    CPU: Q6600 @ 3.8ghz/1.55v (P95 Stable) / 3.2Ghz stock vcore (24/7 Usage)
    Mobo: EVGA 680i rev A1
    Rams: 8GB OCZ reapers 800mhz CL4
    GPU: 8800GTX SLI
    Case: Lian Li PCA71b
    PSU: Silverstone Zeus 750w
    HDD: Seagate 320 GB
    OD: Samsung 22x DVD-RW

    Cooling Hardware
    1st Loop (CPU)
    Pump: MCP 655
    Rad: Alphacool 360
    Fans: Xigmatech x6
    Tubing: Primoflex
    Coolant: Feser one Red
Block: Dtek Fuzion V1 with Nozzles
    Reservoir: Ek Multioption 100

    2nd Loop (GPU)
    Pump: MCP 655
Rad: Black Ice GT Stealth 240 x2
    Fans: NMB minebeas x6
    Tubing: Primoflex
    Coolant: Feser one Orange
    Blocks: *To be confirmed*
    Reservoir: Ek Multioption 100

    Special Thanks to...
VRZoners - From VRzone.com (For their support and ideas)
Bianco and Pissing Intel from VRZ/XS (for the great contacts)
Froze, also from VRZ/XS (For the great MO's)
Navanod from VRZ (For great poison)

And to ALL XS members for some insanely good modding ideas and tips .
And special thanks to Charles_h for kicking off the murderbox revolution.

That's my silverstone zeus 750w that i re-sleeved. It was a real pain to uni-sleeve a non modular psu.

Leaning tower of Xigma (pun intended )

Some parts back from the powerdercoaters...

Some diy-ed lighting i have planned for the rig.

A bit more lighting, though very crude. Not used to soldering...

And the pci fan bracket to cool off the gpu's

Small mishap after photographing the optical drive. It slipped out of my grip and fell to the ground. Tested the drive and it seemed ok. However, the open/close tray button didnt seem to work.

Doesn't seem to badly damaged externally. (front bezel will be covered by the aluminium lian li optical drive bezel.)

Ahh... heres the problem. Cracked PCB.

And a quick solution to that.

    more to be updated soon...

MAJOR props bro, anyone can put together hardware, but to be handy with soldering is a skill on its own (one I should probably acquire).

    Looks like a great start!

Also started to work on making my case "Airtight". I intend to channel all the air through the front intakes where it will be filtered and prevent any air from coming in though side/back vents.

I sent my chassis for powder coating awhile back and replaced many of the rivets with stainless steel screws+cap nuts. I have not taken the pictures of the chassis yet but will do soon.

Extremely large hole there as the psu will be located at the bottom.

I like to work in front of the tv...

    Will update more soon...

    Pump Family...

Decided to keep the overtones neutral rather then red.

And a small mod to the EK res bracket. Might throw in some led lighting into these later on.

The fittings that is gonna go into the rig. Hope i dont need more. Spent too much already heh. But damn do they look good! Im still deciding what to use for clamps. Anyone got any suggestions?

Gave my existing acryan radgrill a paint job to see if i could get a glossy finish. I know what you must be thinking, "Painting over powdercoating??? He must be out of his mind!"

Well i had tonnes of paint from left over from past projects (over 20 cans of them) and i wanted to see how it would turn out. If i did screw it up, i would just send it for powder coating to get it fixed, or maybe even make a new one from scratch. But i quite like the result though it took hours of sanding with 220grit all the way to 2000grit and 6 coats of paint. (2 primer, 4 Candy Black.)

Also gave my intake fans a coat of paint while i was at it. Disassembled the blade from the frame before spraying so as to not affect the performance of the fan.

Nice work, can't wait to see the finished product. Loved your button fix for the broken PCB.

Haha, thanks man. Im just glad that the damage wasn't worse. Don't think i could have done much to fix it if any other portion broke.

    More updates...

Because much of the WC hardware i was planning to use is being reused from my old loop, they were not exactly new looking. So i thought what the heck... Gave my rads a paintjob too.

    Sanded

    Primed

    Done.

    Compared to the original paintjob.

And here are the shots of my case chassis after powdercoating and replacing most rivets with stainless steel nuts and screws.

Thanks for the kind comments. I really love Lian Li cases. Its extremely versatile in terms of an engineering standpoint of view. Though there is quite abit of improvement for the looks department for many of their models.

Thanks man... Really appreciate your comments coming from such a pro modder like you. (I spy a new system in MDPC.. )

I used Nippon spray paint. Its not exactly automobile grade paint, but it still isnt that bad. Though i find its curing times to be extremely lengthy. Up to 2 weeks in some cases.

A friend recommended rustoleum and it looks really good. But with its hefty price tag of about USD$18 per can, it kinda makes me reconsider you know? (compared to about USD$3 per can of nippon)

Thanks aka_GK!... The copper theme you have going on inspires me to do up a rig with a copper theme as well..

    Ok updates!...

Got this sheet of clear acrylic to fabricate the various parts for the rig.

A faux floor for the rig. Also helps to block off air from entering from the bottom of the case. The faux floor sits on the cap nuts all around the sides and back of the case. ( There is a little surprise to this that i have in store. But i will unveil it later.)

Also continued with the sealing of any large gaps.

Temporary air sealing solution till i come up with a better one.

Power supply went in for test fitting and slots for cables were cut out on the mobo tray.

Also got to work with the front door and bezel.

Swapped out much of the screws with stainless steel replacements. I find the silver accents look alot better then the plain black screws

    Opposite for the door though

And if you were wondering why i went through all that trouble to paint the fans and rads, this is the reason. Radiator module for the gpu loop.

I think i will reuse my mobo for now because i realized i had ordered this more then a year back just for my EVGA 680i. The Q6600 that's paired with the mobo still going strong for the current games. So i guess i wont be jumping to i5 or i7 until i really need to.

And the 24 + 8pin extension i will be using...

That's all for now, but the system is nearing completion. All that remains is to put the hardware in and chill it down with water. Am shooting to get it done by this coming week.
