    Project: ZillaPC

    Hello all!

This is my first post on this forum! I've been browsing around it for a few weeks after becoming obsessed with MurderMod projects and MPDC sleeving

I decided to go ahead start a worklog on here. I started this project a few months back, but I've pretty much started all over. This will be the third forum that I have posted this project on. I figured the more places I post it, the more feedback I will get. I'm not great with power tools, so I tend to stick with my dremel and some hand files. I focus mostly on what I am comfortable doing, and experiment when I get the chance. The most extreme thing I'll be doing in this mod is painting. The rest will focus on working out little details in the build that bother me (cable management, drive mounting, color scheme). I may try my hand at a little fabrication, but that will come much later. I've also thought about watercooling, but I like the look of the giant heatsink.

Okay, enough talk. Time for specs!

    ASUS P6T
    intel Core i7 920 D0
    6 Gigs Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600
2 x GTX285s in SLI (a little disappointed. Maybe I need some tweaks?)
    2 x Crucial CT256M225 in RAID0 (fricken fast!!!)
    Creative X-Fi
    Lian-Li PC-V1000Z
Corsair HX1000 sleeved with MDPC sleeving (Thanks Nils and Charles!)

Okay, here is kinda where I left off before deciding to start over:

And here is what I've been doing lately:

I'll have more later. I hope this is worthy of posting. The 24-pin cable is done! I just need to get pictures.

    Thanks for watching!

Thanks all for the warm welcome and kind words.

Here are some pics of the finished 24-pin cable. My skill with a camera is lacking, but I'm working on it.

I'm trying to get the lighting right to get picks of my empty computer case and what I've done so far with a nibbler. But for now, I leave you with...

    Exclamation

I tried to get him to help me sleeve, but he wanted to set me on fire instead! Good thing I didn't give him the xacto knife

Okay, my computer can't make up its mind. It can't decide whether it wants me to stick with the lian-li and paint it myself, or find a shop for powder coating. Or, if it wants me to put it in a MountainMods Monticle. I personally think the Monticle, with its all black anodized finished would look really nice. There is more room for routing cables behind the mobo tray, and it is professionally done. But if I did that, I would really feel like I did much work, and that it was just another build. However, I've seen a few MM cases on here and they look great, and the builder had done some modding of their own.

    I'm conflicted, so please

    -TadZilla

Edit: The MM case would give me more room for new video cards. Since cards are getting longer, when I upgrade in 6 months I would have a case that fits them. Not sure if the LL would fit, say, a 5870x2... or 2 5870x2s... or thre, err... stupid hobby...

I have decided to stick with the LL. So stay tuned for dremel action, and either a. powder coated goodness, or b. my second attempt at painting the internals of a computer case.

    Quick update:

Finished the sleeving of the hardwired cables. I think it looks pretty good. Better than the first time anyways. I'll let you be the judge...

    very small update...

    Hello all!

Just posting some pics of my new motherboard, and some sleeving. I got a new camera, so I've been learning how to use it.

    Current setup:

    P&S I was using:

    Sleeving!

    Its... Its... ITS TADZILLA!!!

    And the mobo:

I have an XSPC 240 radiator and an EK 100mm res on the way. Now that I think about it, I probably should've ordered the 150mm, but tis' okay.

So you took all these shots with that lumix? That thing takes good shots for a point and shoot.

Actually, point and shoot can be good for those kind of shots since they can focus at a way closer distance than a SLR

The shots of the rampage and the more recent sleeving photos are from the dslr. The lumix wasn't good for macro shots at all, but it does take good quality pics for a point and shoot. However, I'm going to be using the DSLR from now on

Thanks for the comments! I'm looking into a bigger case now. A full tower from coolermaster, lian-li, or the corsair obsidian. We'll see. I'm going to see what I can fit into my case, but I may just want more cooling capacity.

I started some testing fitting, and the process definitely leaves me wanting a bigger case. I was thinking of getting a Lian-Li full tower. Any recommendations?

Anyways, here are some pics. I have had the time yet to get cutting, with class, the holidays, work, and well... life, but I'm not rushing the project just to get something done. I want to take my time and do things right.

    So, how about some watercooling...

    And the test fit...

Cutting it really close to the PSU. Routing cable might be difficult. I don't like the PSU hanging out the back either...

Speaking of taking my time, I managed to scratch up my HX1000 pretty bad I'm pretty ticked about it. I should've taped the case off so it wouldn't scratch anything.

So, I'm still debating about getting a bigger case. I want more cooling capacity without going external, so a full tower is a must. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about either a Lian-Li full tower (not the armor suit), or the Coolermaster ATCS 840 (is that right?).

The Silverstone TJ07S-W Silver Aluminium Full Tower Case, is the way to go for water coolong. But it will be an over kill for 1x240 rad, however it leaves you with plenty of future proffing.

Is there a specific budget you're working with?

I would recommend maybe the Lian-Li A70 which is comparable price wise to the ATCS 840.

TJ07 is nice case also and I love mine, but is a bit more than those two case mentioned above. I do like like both cases though if you wanted more internal space to do watercooling.

I hope you don't intend to let the Psu stick out just for liquid cooling sakes, recommend a bigger case, my personal choice is the A71F, Lian Li FTW!!!

I guess I should've waited a little longer for recommendations. I have an ATCS 840 the way, going to be here on Wednesday I was thinking Lian-Li, but I felt like trying something different. From what I've read, I wouldn't be disappointed either way. I also received a Feser 360 rad and an EK 250 res.

I love the A71FB from Lian Li. Its huge judging by the dimensions its possible to put the Black Ice GT Xtreme 560 in the roof!

The ATCS 840 is a nice case as well though, I have also been tempted by that in the past.

    Thanks pingpong!

Quick update... NEW CASE!!! This thing is MASSIVE!!! (insert mandatory, 'head-in-gutter' remark here) I had no idea I would be able to live out of this thing if I had to. And it is sturdy, too. The Lian-li looks nicer I think, but it is flimsy (except for the side panels... built like tanks). I could use this thing as a tornado shelter, or catapult ammo, or anti-tank armor, or... or... a COMPUTER CASE!!!

Okay, picture time. I didn't have natural light this morning as it was dark outside, and my geek room lighting isn't great. So some I used the flash, and others I tried room lighting. I'll take some pics of the back of the mobo later, as I really like how it looks using the clips and screws from Nils!

    Stuff from the case...

    Horray sleeved wires!!!

I need to get some better lighting for taking photos. Any cheap solutions anyone can recommend would be great!

    Thanks for watching!
