    Talking DFI X58 - i7 920 max bclk on AIR = 230Bclk NOW 233Bclk

    Max 230Mhz BCLK

I had all but given up after I found my initial max Bclk 32M Pi stable BCLK of 220Mhz with tight 878mhz 7-7-7-17 timings.

But I'd like to thank Hazzan (233BCLK) and Solarfall (230BCLK) for their inspiration with their DFI UT X58-T3EH8 max BCLK attempts as this prompted me to keep working at it

After numerous bios reboots and trying looser timings and a few voltage combinations, I finally surpassed my previous max memtest86+ v2.11 bootable BCLK of 224, moving all the way up to 230-231 memtest bootable.

Enough for a quick boot into windows for a CPUZ Validation at least

    Wow, eva that rocks !!
I thought solarfall was just plain lucky !
Can you guys put the finger on the setting which made the change ?
If solarfall did it and eva2000 did it, there is something this i7 suckers want to get some more bclk...
Either that or i7 just looove DFI boards.

OK eva, there is definitly something about those settings :

In the past I never got post on anything above 223Mhz.
Now I got windows to load at 224Mhz and Used SetFSB to go up to 228Mhz, 229Mhz and above just freeze on me.

The settings on my ASUS are a bit different but it kind of has the same effect I guess.

Congrats eva/solarfall , now i need to run with DryIce again

Nice... thanks for the confirmation !

Going to see if my mixed Samsung HCF0 3x1GB kit will handle 228-230bclk with 10 mem multiplier LOL

Now it's confirmed. Finally! Thanks George.
I'll try that as soon as I get my board (wonder if it's still at German customs ).

Max BCLK Super Pi 32M Benchable

Did a fresh hard drive install which is WinXP Pro SP3 & Windows 7 beta dual bootable before attempting max Super Pi 32M benchable Bclk frequency tests. This time with 3x1GB Samsung HCF0 based modules for triple channel

    System specs
    • Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
    • Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit + 2x 120x38mm Scythe UltraKaze 2000rpm 87cfm fans in push/pull
    • DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51 - 01/06 beta bios
    • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
    • 2x1GB Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF Dominator + 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ (3x Samsung HCF0)
    • Ram cooling: 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm Maglev fans
    • 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
    • WinXP Pro SP3 full nLite updated hotfixes / Windows 7 beta dual boot

    Triple Channel CPUZ Validation @229Bclk

Haven't pushed ICH 1.5 Voltage yet like I did for 230Bclk, so that will be next up for testing.

    QPI Frequency = 4123Mhz!

    Super Pi 32M

Ignore the times just testing with loose timings. Higher Bclk do require more vdimm that usual due to QPI ceiling. Without enough vdimm DFI post diagnostic LED = CF code for lack of vdimm voltage.

    @226Bclk bios set - QPI Frequency = 4063Mhz

    @226Bclk setFSB windows set - QPI Frequency = 4074Mhz

    @227Bclk - QPI Frequency = 4088Mhz

    @228Bclk - QPI Frequency = 4110Mhz
    - had to bump vdimm, vcore and CPU VTT Special percentage added
    - either a bad run, or lack of volts for either vdimm or CPU VTT or both led to slower 32M Pi time ?

Max BCLK with 10x Memory Multiplier
    - limited by memory max overclock frequency

Now to try max Bclk frequency with 10x memory multiplier - ultimately will be limited by how far my memory modules can overclock

    System specs
    • Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
    • Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit + 2x 120x38mm Scythe UltraKaze 2000rpm 87cfm fans in push/pull
    • DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51 - 01/06 beta bios
    • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
    • 2x1GB Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF Dominator + 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ (3x Samsung HCF0)
    • Ram cooling: 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm Maglev fans
    • 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATAII
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
    • WinXP Pro SP3 full nLite updated hotfixes / Windows 7 beta dual boot

Interesting that up to DDR3-2263Mhz system registered 3x1GB Samsung HCF0 unmatched modules as triple channel, but when I hit DDR3-2298Mhz, windows reported dual channel instead of triple channel ?? Not enough volts somewhere or maybe my 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ module can't keep up with my Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF modules ??

    Triple Channel CPUZ Validation @226Bclk
    +
    DDR3-2263Mhz at 1.995v bios vdimm

    QPI Bus frequency = 4074Mhz

    DDR3-2298Mhz at 2.025v vdimm bios
Triple channel showing up as Dual channel

Max Super Pi 32M @DDR3-2228Mhz 1.995v vdimm bios

i have finaly achieved 4511MHz with water
    and 4471 superpi stable

if i go above something starts to scratch on the board
some sound like condensators were going to blow out
i have watercooling and temperature is at about 45 celsius with 100% load and 4400MHz

    water is very low cooled

eva do you have some idea?
    is my board OK?
or if i try to start with 1.6v+(cpu temp is under 50 celsius) it has the same sound from the board or somewhere from socket-pwm area
and sometimes it shuts down if it goes up to loud

    congrats on 4511mhz!

sounds like condensators ???? not sure what you mean ? i can't hear anything as i have my push and pull fans on TRUE120 at full speed along with fans over NB and ram.

You have HT enabled or disabled ? past 4473mhz for me and i need to disable HT with TRUE120 air cooling.. maybe same with water ? what psu you using ?

    i use 1100 watt piperock

and i have found the problem

    i have cold kathode lights
and they are surrounding the whole board

i took the top one away and soud is gone

if i try to put this kathode somewhere over socket everything goes out

did you somehow dump those setting from BIOS into a text file? If so, how?

    DFI's really are the beast

DFI UT X58-T3EH8 is my first and only X58 ever used... haven't had the privilege to use other X58 boards yet. Waiting on Gigabyte X58 that has been promised since before Xmas so will wait till whatever X58 is sent my way for comparisons and tests

DFI UT X58-T3EH8 is alot of fun and glad it's gave me a good first impression of what i7/x58 platform can do

If DFI can fit into their next bios what I asked for, maybe we shall see even higher memory clocks with non-elpida ic based memory (and maybe bclks).

FYI, my i7 920 3836A756 was the very first batch that arrived in Australia and AFAIK i7 sales in general weren't selling well and was available for quite a while before I nabbed 2x i7 920 3836A756 (will test 2nd one very soon - fingers crossed it's as good if not better than this one - need 2 so can test 2x X58 boards simultaneously )

Maybe being first shipment, Intel didn't bin their first batch of i7 920s as tightly as they do now ???
