    OFFICIAL Halloween Race Roster & Details

    This post will keep track of the Official Team Roster for the 2008 Holloween Race. The Race will begin Midnight October 26th and run till Midnight November 22th (Day before Thanksgiving). We will have multiple Teams, based upon participants to be decided near the launch of the race. ***Had to align the start date with weekly stats

    Official Rules for Halloween Race
    (still being developed & added to often)
    * Must be a member of Team 36362
    * No holds barred...your production may increase as you see fit
    * New 36362 Team members maybe added at anytime during the race
    * Secret Weapon deployment allowed
    * Race to be fun; not FAIR
    * Absolute(ly) no Slacking
    * Trash Can Lid Banging is encouraged to wake poor Mikey up for XSR Reports

    * WFO gets Penalized regularly
    * Over inflated tires are illegal
    * Team Transfers NOT Permitted

    If so, I don't think he considers them fixed untill they bring out a new revision ( which afaik they haven't ).

    You know what.. isn't that kind of a nice idea, keep the people who already competed in the first contest in the same team and only allow them to recruit either more team members or add hw so they can compete better in the next contest? Kind of like how teams compete on a normal basis, but then in a smaller scale inside the team

    Can we trade players and have a draft like the NFL?

    It sounds good but you could end up with one team that is too good and the other team loses every time which will make people leave the team

    True and we would have to discuss some rules to make it more balanced. Just like the NFL, good analogy

    How about we have more then two teams, but each team is limited to let's say 5 players. With a growing number of fah folders that could work out to a nice number of teams. This I think will be good because you will offcourse get teams which are to much to handle for most, imagine the top 10 producers all cluttering together in two megateams!

    So you limit it to five players per team, but you only allow the two of the top20 players of last season to join in each team, so each team has atleast 3 new players who haven't been producing allot. That should balance it some, you will still get stronger teams and lesser strong teams but since you get more teams they can also compete for spots with more equal teams. At the end of each season there is a time off period where players will be traded, but during a season no trades will be allowed.

    I'm thinking this will be a nice idea, it kind of mimics what the ranking stats do on a smaller scale and it shares it attractive sides, competition and trying your best to do what you can ( something I'm afraid to admit though my ppd don't show... I can do much better and I promise I will but back on topic ).

    Now, I do think there are some requirements for this and the most import one is that is has to be easy and intuitive to follow and to participate in, and I'm thinking we might need to go further then the current setup and try to get some people together who can set up a site for the team's graphs ect. There are I think people who would volentier space and bandwidth to host such a feature and I'm sure the team has plenty people capable of making it happen if you share the feeling I got, that this could work to drive this team onward and upward

    We will be competing withing XS, but you seen what that does for ppd so that's not a valid counter argument if anyone wants to use it like that. It will not host a forum, just the stats so it won't take away from traffic and lifeliness so that's not a valid counter argument.

    I'm not setting out stone rules I would love for everyone to talk and tell me what you think could and should be usefull

    One edit though maybe, I said another site for the graphs as it will have to be a dynamic system offcourse and that means server time. People already complain about forums being slow Offourse it would be the nicest if the graphs could be hosted on XS itself!

    A possible suggestion on how to setup the next race to add some extra flavor and fun for everyone.

    After you find out the total number of people who want to participate you could total up their combined ppd and assign a value of say 1 pt per 100 ppd then determine the total number of teams you want and divide the total assigned value by that number and elect team captains and give each team the same number of points to draft members. So you could have a team with 2 or 3 really heavy hitter and maybe a team with 20 or 30 small fry against each other that way the captains would have to come up with a strategy a few big hitter would be great but if one has a problem you could loose the race very quickly where lots of small fry one having a problem would not cause a huge problem. Example say you have 40 members who want to race and you set it for 4 teams and say the total average ppd for the 40 members is say 200000 ppd that would be 2000 points which every team would get 500 then subtract the team captains value from the 500 and let them have the rest to draft team members with. Do the draft in rounds letting each captain choose a percentage of their total points each round how they see fit.

    But we are not a static team and we should not expect to have a static number of participants which is why I proposed small team numbers as they will fill easier then big teams.

    However we can set 'seasons' / 'contest periods' in which teams are competing. Also I don't like the idea of limiting the number of teams, and setting captains. Small teams govern themselfs mostly, and coherency has never been a problem that I know of here. I think creating two teams actually might hurt XS in the long run as it MIGHT cause anomosity among the two teams and it's members and even when I say might I do want to avoid that. Smaller and more dynamic teams make sure that doesn't happen, but like I said I like the ideas.

    So how about you include how teams are made with the values you describe, which btw is what I already done with not allowing the 20th top producers from one season to stick together in one team ( something offcourse which isn't set to the scale this is now.. maybe it should be the top 5 producers? ), and also then limit it to five teams max? Make the heavy hitters of last season the team captains of this season ( that is, they get to pick new members, what happens then is up to.. democrazy rather then ppd ) Idk just throwing some ideas out there maybe you're right and I'm wrong.

    The big things about that is you would need a independent judge who is not participating to to set a particular date to use as the day for the average ppd day determination which should be after the addition of new racers has been closed and number of teams and captains have been established. The hard part will be trying to make sure none of the racers is sandbagging trying to keep their ppd low so they could get a unfair advantage.

    The teams would be made by the points derived from the average ppd of the entire racing field and then number of teams could be established by a poll or such. Then if you did not like the Captain idea you could open up the sign up for any particular team but assign each racer a value determined by their average ppd and limit the teams to a equal total value so friends could join the same team if they wanted and when a team reached its assigned total points membership for that team for this race would be closed. As an example my 24 hour average ppd today is 5303 so using the point system I sugested I would be worth 53 point so any team I joined would have to deduct 53 points from its total points that are allowed. So using the previous number I came up with of 200000 average ppd for all the racers which gave 2000 points and lets say everyone wanted 5 teams that means every team would get 400 points so any team I joined would only have 347 points left for additional team members to join with.

    True but then again that could become part of the game later on and for now we already set a start date and it really couldn't be a move in the wrong direction imho at all. Imagine racing with teams with people who might be sandbagging to stay below the radar, unknowing you were fooling them along all season and in a last day bash thunder past them? Sounds fun doesn it?

    Edit: your ideas sound very feasable to, maybe more work though and like I said less transparant

    This is my view, the best thing for fah is to get more people onboard, more participants not allways and just focusing on the heavy hitters so to say. So I think it should be really transparant, and not to complicated. Both limiting the amount of top players of last season and using a point system like yours sound very much fun, the only thing I am afraid of is that it will get hard to keep it as transparant as possible. With keeping it simple, atleast untill it's really needed to use a diffrent more complicated system, I think you're making it more attrative. I'm not saying my idea btw is the most simple or attractive, atm you really got me thinking and I'm hoping tomorrow I will indeed have a much more worked out idea which includes the points system ect. Probably I'll wake up and be ready to post, only to come here and having to read 20+ other great ideas as well and I'd have to rethink my entire post again

    Or, I could read exactly what I wanted to post and keep quiet ( yes this is a trap.. are you falling? )

    It was just a suggestion to take some of the heat off the organizers MikeB12 took some heat last time with the way the teams were divided this way if you used open sign up with everyone having a weighted value racers could choose which team they want to join and the teams should be pretty equal even if the number of racers on the each team is not the same the average ppd for the team should be pretty equal.

    Personally, I like the idea of multiple teams. I like Marvin's and Shadowtester's ideas. While I think its a good idea to rule out team/player swapping during a race--I think its a bad idea to prevent any new comers from joining. On that note, I suggest that new members be allowed to join during the course of a race---but that they are automatically assigned to the team generating the least points. That way new members/folders are Welcomed and no 1 team is stuck in the position of last place all the time. Think of what would happen if WFO joined in the middle of a race--the Last Place team may very well win!
