hm, how cold it that air where he's keeping his rig? I mean, if he lives in Alaska and opens the windows many things are achievable on air, very very cold air

you can post this in the overclocking forum. if you consider this 'news' then every time a user benchmarks something really high, they'd flood the news section...

This is more than news worthy. If it wasn't then it would be moved almost right away or closed. 4.9Ghz on air.... is wow. I know someone else has gotten higher on air but no benchmarks like 5.65Ghz with one of these E8600 chips.

Yeah it's crazy on air. You can tell this chip has a chance to be golden if using highend cooling to reach 6ghz. Ln2?

All systems sold. Will be back after Sandy Bridge!

Actually alot of chips that suck on air cooling are fantastic on LN2 and the other way around.

I wonder what his settings were to get that x48 over 500mhz. My blasted Dk x48 won't even break 510.

I plan on getting one of these chips soon and by damn, I want to overcome that so I can get upwards of 5ghz on my water setup.

Are you running a quad core then? The dual cores seem to be easy FSB overclockers, the quad cores have a tougher time though (still great none the less).

Nope. It's a dualie. My old P35 board could go up to 550 before I started to get any complaints. E6420 that came out a year ago. Highest I got it was 3.6, but with the DFI I can't get it to run over 3.1. I can't tweak it now anyway cause the board is on RMA.

Anyway, this thread isn't about me. It's about that amazing clocking chip and how I freaking want one.

Surprising statement. You prolly don't know me. YGPM

He has since updated the first ss and got some new no.s. Check it out

EDIT: He just broke single card 3dmark 2003 100K on air

my E8600 does over 5ghz easy on air.. There's air cooling and then there's air cooling. Mine was done in about 8-10 celsius air temps, imagine some of the air clocks when the northern hemisphere winter comes.

but dam that is awesome low voltage for those clocks! >4.9ghz with 1.464v... that chip is a gem

I was just mentioning that earlier, it really depends on the ambient temps, of course, but he says here that his ambient temp is 20C, I mean that sounds unbelievable, but he's showing a pic of his setup there. I believe him and he really has a miraculous system...

I should clarify I guess. I'm not doubting the clocking for a second. I just think a 4.9ghz 3D air clock will be a lot more common once more E0 chips get into circulation, and once the northern winter sets in.

Whats far more impressive is the voltage required for those clocks. If he pushed it a bit more then waaaay over 5ghz should be doable.

For the record here's a couple of my attempts with cold air (For Australia that is haha)

    5050mhz 32m @ 1.575vcore

    and an Aquamark @ 5049 @ 1.53vcore

I don't mean to thread crap, SPL's is a superb overclock, but the low voltage is the really impressive part.

well, are you sure that his chip will react on more volts as you would expect it to react? I'm pretty sure that he would have tried it already, upping the volts. Maybe the temps are keeping him from upping the volts, I don't know...

Yeah i'd say there's some headroom left, most 45nm chips should scale a bit further with a bit more vcore, perhaps he has tried, I don't know either.
