790i reference board volt mods (UNCONFIRMED mods) >> work in progress
Hi guys
i would like to start this topic to get all these mods confirmed first of all but ppl here that are more experienced. i've worked with simon (oohms) on these but because he didn't have the board on his and pics only these mods may not be correct. Vince found a droop mod but i could not get it working with a pencil mod
i need to solder a 50K VR and check it (that's basically the only mod i'll need as bios has all the options i need)
actually maybe the DDR3 VTT mod may be useful if we can get it confirmed
WARNING: UNCONFIRMED MODS. IN TESTING STAGE AT THE MOMENT
I'll ask Simon to chime in what feedback he requires as i am not trusting my multimeter for resistance readings
DDR3 VTT MOD(unconfirmed/untested)

VCORE READOUT(haven't checked yet >> someone pls check and let us know)

VDIMM MOD(unconfirmed/untested)

VNB MOD >>> tested using 20K VR (be careful here though and make sure your VR is loosened up all the way as 20K already boosts vNB by 0.05v at stock VR resistance)

VCORE & VDROOP MODS
>> VCORE MOD confirmed working >>> USE 100K VR to be sure....even 200K if required.....you could use as low as 50K but start high first as not all boards are the same
>> VCORE droop MOD confirmed working >>> USE 50K VR .... also may be able to use a smaller VR as one user is reporting around 2-3K reading after dialing down 50K VR to control droop properly
as you can see none of them have resistance readings (besides vdroop) yet so i need ppl to do the readouts on their boards and report
if anyone does test these please report your findings or if you have alternative points let's get them up here and test out make sure they work 100%

It makes a lot of sense for the VDIMM, according to the datasheet in pg.1 specifically said that it's typically used for DDR/DDR2/DDR3 SDRAM Bus Termination Supply.

u see the pic with the vdroop mod
well what you need to do is use a 2B pencil and basically draw a line between the two points (the blue lines in the image are showing the two points you need to connect with 2B pencil)
it did nothing for me though so i have to solder a 50K VR and see if that changes anything for me

dinos22; Instead of with a pencil 2b, can be done with silver paint?

The silver paint would probably pull the resistance all the way to zero, you probably don't wanna do that.

errrr don't use that man
the idea behind pencil mod it to put a weak link to reduce the resistance slightly
even when pencil modding you have to be careful not to overdo resistance too
from what KP told me (relying on my memory here lol) he dialed it down to around 30K
