A Solution To No EK MOSFET back plates
My watercooling has evolved over time with thanks to many forum members here.
A while back, someone pointed out that my CPU/Storm did not have a back plate. Sure enough, it was bending the mobo like crazy. Then when I fixed that, I noticed the EK MOSFET blocks were also bending the mobo and the center chips did not even make contact.
This has been bugging me for some time and I actually made some aluminum MOSFET back plates as first seen made by AndyM and others. My craftsmanship was pretty bad and then someone mentioned using the copper heat sink back plates from the original mobo heat pipe assembly. I do not remember who, but it was a great idea.
I used a screwdriver and twisted it until each fin broke its glue/solder. This produced a perfect back plate and was actually quite stiff. I bought some longer screws and 1mm thick rubber to electrically isoleat the back plate from the mobo.
Here is the result. The contact is very even across all the MOSFET chips now and I am happy. Just wanted to pass on some pictures.
C'mon Eddy, can't you supply something like these with your blocks?
