New Version 8800GTS is Based on G92

According to the sources,we knew more things of the new 8800GTS, so we compiled this chart:

Here is the things that we sure:

    1. 8800GT will have two versions. One is 96SP,the other is 112SP. Nvidia will sell two version separately.

    2. The memory size is decided by the downsteam producers.

    3. The new version 8800GTS we are talking about isn't the more SP version 8800GTS, it is a new version based on G92

    4. 8800GTS will have 128SP, not the 112SP we are talking earlier. The number of SP are the same of 8800GTX.

    5. 8800GTS will have 512MB 256bit.

So, we won't have NVIO chip on the new version of 8800GTS. But now we still don't know about 8800 can support DX10.1 or not.

Did it turn out that 10.1 was supported by existing cards?

    WTF? 128 SP?

Hardly any of the rumors I've heard lately have made any kind of sense.

This should be interesting to see what Nvidia decides to call the products, hopefully it'll be called 8900GT and 8900GTS to lessen the confusion between the current 8800 and upcoming next gen cards.

If that's the new GTS then I don't even know what the new GTX might have..

160 SP, 256/512 bit, 1GB RAM? If they push the clocks to 700/2400/2400 then it could reach that 1TFlop power we keep talking about...

HDR (floating point) was possible in SM3.0, and even the GeForce 6 cards supported it. So it stands to reason that GeForce 8 cards would too.

NVIDIA can do true 8x MSAA with the GF8 hardware. Their ROPs are capable of single-cycle 4xAA sampling, making supporting DX10.1 a sinch on that front. The difficulties may come from other features, however, I'm not sure.

QFT! Otherwise buying them would be like a lottery or something. I can already see shady dealers selling old as new If not 8900xxx, at least they should name them 8850xxx or etc....

Yes not that I care much about the name but 8900 sure sounds a lot more attractive than a 8800 number. I think 8800GT is actually quite bad marketing, why use the same number for something released a lot later and is based on 65nm. If I was NVIDIA I'd use 8900GT(S) for this card and 8950GX2 or whatever for the possibly upcoming card and use 9800 for the next highend series released next year sometimes.

    I dunno,

maybe they call this 8800GT because there is already a 8900 planned ?

Is it just me but isn't the Memory Interface on the new 8800GTS pretty nerfed compared to the current one and the GTX. Could this perhaps gimp the 8800GTS enough to keep it below the 8800GTX so naming it the 8900 GT would probably be a bad idea especially if it can't do DirectX 10.1, just my thoughts.

Well 8800gtx has 384 bit bus. It be intresting to see how that affects performance. Benchmark these cards on the same gpu/mem speed on one system.

There will be no confusion, we will have 3 different GTSes: with 320M, 512M and 640M. For me the naming here is pretty clean.

Honestly, I'm waiting for the next mid-range Nvidia cards, not a bunch of rehashed gut shots to fill in the holes between 8800GTS and GTX, it's about to be November Nvidia, bring it already!!

    3 Things I Care About

    1. How much better will they perform than the current lineup.
    2. How much do they cost.
    3. When can I get it.

So far 2 and 3 I have enough information. But 1 is still a mystery.
