    G.SKILL F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ PC2-8000 mini-review (1020MHz w/ 1.9Vdimm)

Similar to Denny, i am throwing up a quick review of the retail g.skill kit I picked up at newegg a few days ago.

Overall, I am really impressed at the price/performance of the kit. At $189.99, it is priced the same as 667 or 800MHz kits, but is guaranteed to run at 1000 5-5-5-15.

Anywho, I was able to hit a max of 1020MHz with 1.9Vdimm on a P5K Deluxe, which isnt half bad. The memory does not respond at all to voltage. ~1.9-2.1Vdimm all yielded the exact same overclock.

    On to the pics!

Definitely stable as a rock at 1020, but take it up a hair more and all stability is lost.

Anyway to sum up this kit:

    PROS:

    Inexpensive (relatively speaking)
    Low Voltage
    Look good
1000+MHz out of the box, guaranteed

    CONS:

    Little overclocking headroom
    Hates voltage
    CPU: Intel CORE 2 Duo E6550 @ 3.6GHz w/ 1.29vcore (517*7)
    Motherboard:
    Gigabyte P35-DQ6
    Memory:
    Crucial 8500's
    Video:
    Nvidia 8800GTX
    PSU:
Zippy 700W (fan modded of course)

Nice little write up, any testing with other timings? I should have my set from G.Skill early this week.

I wouldn't expect much more of the Powerchip ICs. Still a nice achievement for a 2x2GB kit.

can you see how high they go at 2.1v

also can you see how tight the timings can go at 800mhz and 2.1v

Do you think that 4 of those G.Skill's could do 1000?

Here is what I am thinking. I want to have the capability for 4X2GB at DDR21000. I was thinking of getting two of the G.skill kits and hope that they would go to 1000. I have an Asus Crosshair Mobo.

Yet, I had already purchased the Geil DDR800 Esoteria 2X2GB kit from newegg. The G.Skill does not respond to voltage, so if it doesn't get to 1000, you are pretty much screwed. However the Geil allows up to 2.5 volts pumping through it so there could possibly be more headroom to get to 1000 if and when I decide to get another of the Geil 2X2GB kits.

What do you guys think? Keep the Geil for now and hope that later on If I buy another kit I could get to 1000 or get 2 of the G.Skill 2X2GB (for a total of 8GB) and see if I could get 1000?

Sorry for the off-topic, but since you mentioned it...

So how is that coming along?

Real curious to see how those NE LanFest compare to the rest of the Ballistix lineup.

Do you have a thread started for that yet? Looked, but didn't see one.

I will let you know. I have purchased both kits:

    The G.Skill 2X2GB X 2 (for a total of 8GB) and the Geil Esoteria 2X2GB.

I am going to test both and report back.

@ Geil Skill guy right above me.... Do you think that I would be able to get DDR2 1000 out of 4 of these sticks at the same time in my Asus Crosshair?

    nice review
On the P5B Deluxe no TrFc options in the BIOS will work. When I set SPD auto then the system will take tRFC = 51. Lower then that e.g. 48 is Freeze.
So basically now setting the latencies manually in BIOS is nogo on the P5B deluxe.

Hey guys. I told you I would report back.

I currently have the 8GB's of the Gskill kits at 500MHZ easily with my 6400 @ 3500MHZ. I will post a mini review soon.
