    PC8000 HZ's 2x1gig problem

    Hey there,

I started throwing BSOD's at stock timings between DDR 926 and 1000... This was regardless of Vdimm from 2.2-2.4. Chipset voltages aren't in play here either... Memtest 3.3 shows no problems through many passes of test 5

The BSOD's are primarily irql_not_less_or_equal but I also got the following...

    page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
    ctuad2k.sys
    portcls.sys
    win32k.sys

Of course I reinstalled and reseated X-fi drivers/card. X-fi is only being IRQ shared with USB controllers.

BSOD's still happening ... but I changed timings from stock to 5-5-5-12 and everything is fine now.

I'm going to play with timings a little more and maybe just live at Cas 5 but before I do can anything think of anything else? I redid graphics drivers... I havent installed any new hardware or drivers since I received these new sticks three weeks ago. OS install is pretty new as well.

    Yes sir... P5B-D 910 bios

    further testing....

Stick 1 alone in slot one - in safe mode, orthos priority 9 Blend test passes 30 minutes at 4-4-4-15 and 2.3 Vdimm

Stick 2 alone in slot one - in safe mode, orthos priority 9 Blend test passes up to 22 minutes at 4-4-4-15 and 2.3 Vdimm, mouse movement locks windows....no boot after pressing reset button.

Brought it back down to 5-5-5-15 and windows running well

I am , too, having some problems with this kit on ASUS P5WDG WS2 Pro. This kit is only able to run 8000 at 400FSB only / e.g. 400x9 makes 3600MHz CPU / /2x500-1000Mem at 2,3 V Dimm- no problems.

But if I up a FSB to 412 , which makes 3700 overclock and 1030 on the memory side , which is for my Xeon 3060 100% stable.

It was able to reach 3850 P95 stability !,
but there are erros at Memtest and win memtest as well.

I have read somewhere, that this kit s got very tight other subtimings, but these I cannot set on my MB / this aint no DFI / -so, I am left with
running the mem 1:1 on 412x2-824 - at that speed it is fully stable at
    4 4 4 4 4/7 trd Write to read Delay / but hey, what for have I bought a 1000 /PC2 8000/ memory ?

It looks that these timings are maybe a little bit too much forD9GMH chips, or even D9CGT / G Skill refuses to tell /

I have mixed feelings about this memory , and I m not alone

I have tried a lot of timings as well, I tell you, theres something weird with this kit. Most probably the GMX chips were used from the beginning and for the review kits and now comes the worse part

I think you mean KX... I dont recall ever seeing a review that said they were KX...

At any rate lets see what our man has to say here... as it stands though, this is the second kit that has had problems for me... the first had a stick throw memtest errors after 2 months of use at 2.2-2.3v between ddr 923 and 1000

Hey all... see sig for specs

Ok third set of sticks to me... These are the new black PCB ones with the new heatspreaders...

I have had Active cooling fans over the sticks the entire time...

4 days ago I was at 2.15v and threw a BSOD... raised voltage to 2.35, 3 days have passed and I just threw another one...

DMM measurements shows PSU 12v, 5v and 3.3v at spec at load and idle... DMM shows voltage measured from the DIMM at spec for idle and load.

Not likely GSkill sends me three dodgy sticks? ... Heatspreaders attached and very nice... and I have been at or just below rated volts at all times... and at 4-4-4-12+ always.

Asus P5B doesn't have a rep for eating Ram... I have no way of testing ripple on the PSU

Suggestions?... Im going to up NbV to 1.55 (Edit: Didn't work, BSOD again during gaming.) Also, if you're wondering if it's the PSU, know that a 6600gt is in my system while my 8800gts has been away in RMA land (different issue lol)...

Here are Bios settings... if you need to see more then please say so

    Made that subtiming change...

BSOD'd this morning playing my one game (LockOn...notoriously harsh on systems) ... was at 7x499 with the above url settings

I'm not going to start blaming Ram until I do some software (namely, LockOn, Forceware, Saitek input software) reinstalling and I get my 8800gts back... and Ill drop down to stock 2.13Ghz on the e6400

Here's one thing of note though...

I only suspected one Dimm previously but I have since measured idle and load voltages (Bios 2.25v) and all slots measured 2.26v.. Still well within voltage limits.

Still going to let this one play out ... I'll keep testing, but as you can see I have been down this road before...

As it stands, I think I want to get a P35 Mobo and I need a new PSU anyways (For water, potential 2900xtx)... thats down the road though... I'll keep you informed...

P.S. Just some more SS info... 3.2 detection off

My 2x1gb ddr800 HZ sticks do not like 1:1 ratio - they are fine on 4:5 at ddr1000+, 4-4-4-8, but with 1:1 they don't like to go much over spec. this is on a DS3 rev 3.3, my old GBNQs were fine 1:1 at 1000+ as are 2x512mb ddr667 Ballistix (D9GMH). Kind of a bummer.

4:5 DDR2-1000 (8x400) quickly yielded this while working on a document... wil continue testing at 2:3 (8x330)

Edit: Confirm please ... anything more brutal and telling than dual instance HCI Memtest in windows working about 700mb each? Should I go with more mb?

Hi Again... been a couple of months

    Just to be clear....

it's ok to run these at 2.2-2.4 Volts? I do have fans on them.

I.E. The "test voltages" on the GSkill Website 2.2~2.4 are the recommended daily voltages for them to run at spec?

Also, the prefered timings of these are 4-4-4-12-7-10-8-13 ?

I'm due for an RMA again and my thoughts now are that the problem was my old power supply (not likely, but I replaced it anyways.) So if these next ones fail it has to be the motherboard... Will keep testing, but I just wanted to be clear.... 2.2~2.4 is good to go on a daily basis...?
