    Xeon 3060

So it seems I'm in this situation again. I got my 3060 today and I know how great L628B and L629A/B chips are, but what about this:

    L630A986

    Crappy stepping?

    Thanks.

you tell us...although i really don't believe that one stepping is necessarily better than another. i do think though that newer weeks generally clock better as the process improves slightly.

I can tell you that my L630A832 E6600 ( I know, its not a xeon) goes to 3.52GHz using only 1.36Vcore, however if I want 3.6GHz from it, she needs 1.52V.
    Nothing anymore

My L632A566 will do 3.6ghz on 1.375v, takes about 1.6v for 4ghz though

Well, Chaos, do you know how much voltage it takes for 3.7? That's what I'm aiming for, to have my pseudo-Gallatin.

I'll let you know how it goes after I get it built; I'm still procrastinating, or just being meticulous rather, prepping everything and working out wiring problems.

Sweet. I just got the mobo sitting on an anti-static bag now, Raptor and DVD drive connected, etc. and it booted first try. However, I noticed (this is with FCG's Scythe Infinity mount mod) I'm getting 37-38C idle just in BIOS at stock (2.4GHz, 1.3250v) with a 120mm Thermaltake fan on low; seems a bit warm. Should I remount? That'll be a pain in the ass, though, remounting it anyway because those damn blue heatsinks on the XBX2 make clipping the heatsink into the retention brackets, and I knocked one off then had to stick it back on. -_-

So remount or no? My ambients were quite high, though. It's been way too hot and humid for January here. Gotta dig up my Windows CD today and install. 38C just seems high. Are temp sensors on XBX2 off? I assume so. Think it'll hurt anything that I knocked a MOSFET heatsink off?

Omastar, a bit off topic but what voltage you running for the TX @ DDR2-866 3-4-3-4? Is that PC-5300 D9GMH? Thanks.

I was running 2.4v, but that was on my DS3. Haven't gotten to OC on my XBX2 yet.

Cpu oc is luck but as FCG said newer weeks tend to be better

I have L629A xeon that does 3.6ghz 1.55V. I wouldn't call it great but it is fine. I can 3D bench it on air @ 3.9ghz 1.65V (1M @ 4ghz) and the best part is that they don't get hot at all (unlike B batch chips)

I guess I'll be getting a "xeon" instead of a "c2d". They are priced within $10 of eachother and the differences are supposed to be so great...if you are lucky!

If you are lucky you`ll get 3,6@1,3V , I have several Xeon3060 L630A986 here - All of them can do 3,6GHz between 1.30 and 1,35V

Right now i`m in the final stages of my E6600 testing ... soon there will be some screens in the Database thread :-)

Wow, so kiwi has my same batch and gets decent results, but you have my exact stepping, Pete, and you can do 3.7 at 1.328v. :o Jesus, man!

    Thanks for the info, guys.

I'm gonna go install Windows now.

BTW, how do I disable the stupid Marvell RAID controller? It keeps hassling me when I reboot, saying no hard disk or array is detected.
