You will buy 8800GTX/GTS or wait for 8900/8600 Series?

    I am very sad! 5 Month ago I spend 570$ and bought 7900GTX but today 7900GTX killed by 8800GTX 3Dmark06 result :
    7900GTX : 6100
    8800GTX : 14000
when 8800GTX will die? waitng for 8900GTX/GX2 or forget it and buy 8800GTX?

Looking at the current benchmarks based obviously on underdeveloped drivers, the GTS isn't much better than the 7900GTX...so I might even say buy a 7900GT and volt mod it...

    (prices depending of course).

Chances are I'll do what I did with ATI's X8xx and Nvidia' 7-series - wait until it's almost dead and buy a GTO that unlocks/overclocks to the fullest potential of their highest-end device for less than half the price of buying the card new and getting an oversized, quieter stock cooler at the same time.

lol...ok...then go buy your 7900GTX...or tell the thread starter to do so...but make sure to give him your name and address, so that then when it comes out and the threadstarter sees the numbers of a properly clocked GTS, he can send you some nice things in the mail

You have to have a mental disorder if you use these cards in SLI..or even consider it.

Don't be an ass because I'm not jumping on the "G80 r 1337" train.

I understand that it'll get better; hell, I admitted it. That's why I said one might buy a 7900GT(X).

At this point, the GTS looks horrible...it's more of a 7975 really

The GTX on the other hand...however at this moment the GTX and GTS cost more than my Conroe by a hefty margin. I'm saying wait until a)games/apps support DX10, and b)wait for a better price.

    Just my 2 cents.

(Oh ya, and my comment wasn't directed at the OP who HAS a 7900GTX, so I'd gladly give him my address. Only people with no opinions would blindly follow a forum suggestion *cough PSU of the month (K, that was just a low blow ) without weighing their options themselves).

Cause its overkill/bragging rights only is why. If you shall out well over $1000 on hardware that offers little to no advantage than just better fps at higher rez.

I really feel sorry for people who buy into the SLI/Crossfire stuff. heh

Pls don't be offended by my persistence at decrying the assumptions of the untrained eye.

Wait and see before calling an 8800GTS a 7975...No single 7900GTX can get 20k in 05 on air...this is nex gen architecture we're talking about.

i don't give a rat's a** about whether you're jumping on the g80 bandwagon or not...just don't bash something and force the threadstarter to make the wrong decision because you have little idea of how big of an evolution the 8800 series is.

Marko, its $449 and a helluva deal...not $1000. Plus at $449, if well oced it can beat x1900s and 7900s in sli.

No offense taken, what's a forum where everyone agrees/spouts the same thing?

I understand that this is next gen, it's purely my opinion about the GTS numbers.

just don't bash something and force the threadstarter to make the wrong decision because you have little idea of how big of an evolution the 8800 series is.
Ah, so my opinion is already declared wrong? (P.S. making a comment like I did CAN NOT be considered "bashing"). It wasn't even directed at the thread starter. In fact, I was going to skip this thread because I don't understand what he's asking, my comment was purely an innocent reply to your suggestion of getting a GTS instead of a GTX, nothing wrong with getting another opinion on the subject.

Oh ya, Blu-ray is an amazing evolution in storage media, does that make everyone love it?

A regular DVD-RW is $50...if the Blu-Ray was $75...everyone WOULD love it...heck everyone would love it even at $100...but its going to come out at $500 or more...thats why people hate it...

The GTS is about 20% more expensive than the 7900GTX and yet it has 50% more performance...thats why i'm telling YOU not to hate it.

Is that a round-about way of agreeing with me? I said people hate it, what's your point?

I'm not really impressed by those, as I don't run at those high resolutions, and I wouldn't notice the dif between 150 and 200 (MY OPINION AGAIN! GET THAT INTO YOUR HEAD. MY OPINION DOES NOT = RIGHT OR WRONG) (and yes, capslock was needed apparently).

And seeing as you can overclock a 7900GT to GTX like performance...

$300 CND compared to $570 (for GTS) is a big deal to me.

Can we please just end this? You don't like my opinion, so you're attacking it..I don't give a sh*t what your opinion is, this is mine, live with it being there, it shows the flip side of the coin. Respect mine like I respect yours...before you brought it up, I didn't go as far as you did and attack what you said.

Btw...how about we put all this aside until a week from now when consumers have their hands on it? I'm eagerly awaiting actual consumer reviews, as I generally don't trust some of these sites :/

As you wish...but (well aside from the fact that you're asking me to respect yours in the same post where you're saying you don't give a about mine) everyone has an opinion...and everyone has a preference..i have respected both with my time here...but i have a very low tolerance for people forming their opinions based on skewed facts...

Though yes....who is right or wrong will be determine when the cards come out and people clock them.

You already win though...if everyone at xs plays games at stock

    Last shot at me?

And don't worry, I know the GTS/GTX will maul all competition (until ATI, then we'll see), I'm on the side of frugal people who have a low income

    'Till then....we'll see

(And I apologize for the remark you pointed out, I'm getting too worked up over something I don't have )

Well I try not to have a "side"...I have an x800gt right now...but that doesn't mean i'm going to sit back and watch someone POTENTIALLY (lol) make the wrong decision because i think they're rich or something...i would have been ineffective as a news mod all this time if that were the case.

I can see it now "AMD releases new photon chips! But you won't want it...too expensive!"

    Fair enough.

wow I can smell high blood pressure all because of sketchy numbers and the good ole rumor mill cranking once again..............why not just wait for the cards to be put on the market and in about a week or two see what credible ####s are produced and shared so then the rest of us can choose to make a buy based on affordable prices vs real world performance?

Why is there always a testosterone driven feeding frenzy over rumors and preliminary numbers?
