    Nvidia 7950GT Volt mods

    Hey All,

I figure i would start a thread to help along the 7950 owners out there, for the reading that i have been doing the volt mods on this card are the same as the 7900GT, just with differing voltages.

Most of the mods spoke of are hard mods using conductive paint/solder. But doing a little more reading, i have found that there are two options in the bios for voltages 1.25v and some @ 1.35v, I checked my bios (BFG) with NiBiTor and found that my bios is set to 1.25v in both 2D & 3D mode (this would explain the poor overclock of only 590 on the core) So i am going to reflash the bios with it adjusted to 1.35v in 3D mode and see what core speed i can get.

Digging a little deeper again I found the eVGA 7950GT SC bios to have a third option of 1.45v!!! I am wondering if anyone has this card? and what kind of clocks they are seeing? 700Mhz would be real nice on this core!

Will keep updated, any info on the 7950 would be great!

Are you sure the necessary hardware is installed to support Bios switching ?

    Hey,

Yeah i updated my bios last night using NiBiTor I readjusted the voltage for 3D to 1.35v (original 1.25v) as a result my core clock went from 590 to 637! so it must have the ability.

Im glad you looked in on this thread, i have read your various other posts and seem to be quite knowledgeble with respect to Nvidia cards. I am coming from an X850Pro that I unlocked then volt modded, so I have a bit of background in this sort of thing. I am just wondering about the 1.45v option from the eVGA card? do you think it may have extra on board hardware to handle the voltage? or just a simple bios option?

    thanx again,

To answer your question, I need a picture of your board.

I had the EVGA superclocked 7950GT for a few days. To bad I saw this thread only now. I had it overclocked to 650/850 running games/3d mark.

Sparkle's 7950GT stopped a lot earlier: 615MHz on the core.
I'm testing Asus now. Its doesn't come with memory heatsinks, so I guess this will be the slowest of the 3 (when it comes down to overclocking stock cards). Memory chips run very hot.

I have been working on an eVGA 7950GT KOSC for the last few days. The 1.45v selection in the bios results in the same 1.35v. They actually used the same mods listed in the 7900GT thread for increasing the voltage. They used a soldered on connector in the B and C location for a .15v increase in voltage.

I have had problems with this board, and another 7900GTX refusing to switch from 2D to 3D mode so I have the same voltage in both mods and a fixed clock rate.

This 7950GT does not like over 1.6v, at 1.6v it is at 750mhz on core and 1780mhz on memory. I installed a 50kohm resistor in place of the 'J' resistor and removed the bridge eVGA installed on the 'C' bridge for the 1.45vid resulting in 1.6v. The Infineon 1.4ns memory is at 2.19v.

People buying a 7950GT might look for Gigabyte's card. They seem to have a 7950GT with 1,2ns RAM.

What is a safe voltage for the G71 core? I have a Thermalright V1 Ultra With two Fans attached, this should keep the temps in check (close to watercooling temps)

As for the RAM, what is the stock voltage for the 1.4ns chips? and what are they happy at with say ramsinks and a fan on em?

I got a Club3D 7950GT running at 735/910 (1,53/2,2V) air cooled. I'm going to put the card under phase change when I get my new ram.
Wondering how high voltage the core can take? And the mem?

Is your memory completely stable? I noticed at over 900mhz it would run fine in ATITool, but after some time in NFS:Carbon or BF2 or 3DMark05 I would get memory corruption.

Also, from my 7950GT I am having a lot of problems with OCP that do not seem to be resolvable. At anything over 1.6v it is not stable. I have tried all the various mods with no improvement. My 7900GTX could handle 1.8v just fine.

I'm interested in how the phase change works, post an update.

I sure will The mem was stable, 3DMark05 ran fine. I had two 120mm fans blowing at the card. I really hope my gpu takes more than 1,6V..

ASUS 7950GT with no memory heatsink overclocks to 820MHz (1640DDR), mad stuff!

I have the leadtek 7950GT & the best i can manage is 621 core & 1584 mem with no mods & on air which is good for just over 6k in 3dmark06, so with doing this v.mod & E.K waterblock i should be able to squeeze a bit more from it ... i hope

I had some issues with my power supply, crap ass antec smart power...(never buy antec, horrible customer service...) picked up a OCZ GameXStream 700W...no more troubles! and I have my V1 Ultra mounted and am just wondering what voltage i can push into the core...the V1 brings temps close to watercooling...i was thinking 1.5v, meaning red and purple in the 7900GT volt mod right?...just making sure...

Mod done, and now sitting pretty at 700Core and 825mem, good for 11,473 in 3D05, i have left the delta at the stock 20mhz, would it benefit from raising it to 40 or 50? or drop it and bring the whole core up? thanx for any info!

Could you point me in that direction? Where are those mods posted?

maybe some definitive pics? i kinda waded through the 7900GT voltmods and found what i thought to work, and it seems to have done the trick, but no multimeter to verify voltages...I would post pics but my digicam was stolen out of my car awhile back...bastards, things for xmas...digicam and multimeter

Have a good holiday guys...whatever flavor it may be
