Overclocking with d975xbx2 (Bad Axe 2) and Kentsfield K6700

    Hi all.

I just got my hands on an Intel d975xbx2 Bad Axe 2 motherboard, and a K6700 B1 CPU.

I want to try some over clocking. Can anyone give me some hints on how to start?

It’s been some years since I last did this, and it would be good to have some pro hints on the way to new scores J

    My hardware so far:

MB: Intel d975xbx2 Bad Axe 2
    CPU: Intel K6700 ( B1 )
    VGA: Asus Geforce 7950GT 512MB
    MEM: GEIL PC2-6400 DDR2 800 CL: 4 – 4 – 4 – 12
    HDD: Samsung SATA 7200RPM 160GB
    Power: Chieftec PSU 620W

Cooler: Thermaltake Big Typhoon Air cooler

I also have a Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard. Witch one should I use?

and where did you find one of those ?
sure its not a bad axe 1 with a new rev ? like a 305 or something ?

and you aint gunna overclock a celeron with that PSU
    Power: Chieftec PSU 620W
seriously you have got intel sample hardware ,, ie non retail goods... and you throw on some piece of sh|t psu like that ?
    man come on
PLEASE go buy a PCPnC or OCZ or some other high end psu..
that psu isnt going to be able to barely run the 7950 let alone all the other tastey goods you have.

BIOS shot doesn't work (EDIT: now it does)....how are the OC options in BIOS? You might need to enable them....but it doesn't look like it.....try looking around for some vmch, vdimm.

Thank you Mr. Willy...Vcore and vmch are so-so at best...but Vdimm, DAMN.

Have you been able to test for max stable FSB? That'll be really interesting....

BTW, thanks again for the previews.

EDIT: anything about "Strap" in there?

I have tried, but I need some help...
    If I change FSB from 266 -> 270 saves&exits my system won't boot.
I have to do a recover CMOS to start again.

It have just been to long since I overclocked. Things have clearly changed.

I'll use this weekend for OC'ing, so if anyone have a hint for me I'd sure be glad

Hmmmm, 266 -> 270 shoudn't cause any problems....ugh, try reducing the multi to 7x, bump vcore to 1.475V, vmch to 1.7, vfsb to something in the middle, RAM to '533' 5-5-5-15 2.3V, and set 401FSB. See if that does anything....if not, try all that, but with FSB settings at 301/335/368.

If none of that still works, ask your contact if they know what's up.

Another member had problems increasing FSB on Kentsfield with the Bad Axe. You might try changing the multiplier to 11 or 12. See if you can run 266X11 or 266X12.

It did not start with any of these settings...

I changed it to x11. And it started up.
    But CPU-z posts x10.

Can my CPU only use 6 - 10 on multipier?

Hmmm, that did fix it afterall, sweet advice Sierra.....now that it's clocking....go ahead and push it

Unfortunately, you're gonna probably hit the limit of your CPU before you'll hit the limit of the board unless you can drop the multiplier.

subscribed! Just wanna see how this badaxe goes...
damn nice those 2.8v on the ddr2

    Marco

edit: how can you be able to raise vdimm up to 2.8, and leave the vcore max @1.6 and vmch @1.7 ... it would be awesome if it was at least 1.8 and 2.0v !!! anyway.. it seems a gret mainboard this one!

This is how far I have come
But I get bluescreens when I try to bench.

Will try with a better PSU, and a better cooler later today.
