Constant reboot - pre BIOS (Gigabyte DQ6/E6400)

Oh no, I don't know what has happened. Everything has been working fine until I decided to lap my hsf and cpu.

I updated to F4a today and tried 430fsb, booted to windows fine but failed dual-prime. Reset back to 425fsb which has been prime stable for days. Powered down and disassembled.

After putting everyting back together, I can't boot. No BIOS, nothing. Powers up and then 5 sec. later reboots.

I have read of this issue but I haven't seen any reasons or resolutions.

What can I do? How can I get back to BIOS.

I've tried changing ram with A-data 533, cleared cmos via jumper several times, removed cmos battery a couple of times, tried disconnecting everything... nothing works.

I'm desperate. Any help is really welcome. Unfortunately this is my work machine and I have to get it up and running again by tomorrow.

that hapened to my old DS3 (RMA) if with a Clear CMOS you cant boot to bios >>> RMA (corrupt bios) >> thats what my old DS3 had.

try change your rams from 1 & 3 position to 2 & 4 position

when that hapened to me i tried everything , slots ram , 1 stik, only VGA , battery,....... no way


results from RMA >>> Bios corrupt>> New DS3


That hapened to me exactly same way >> when i change FSB from 395 to 410 .

before that problem , this already hapened , but with a clear cmos i could boot again , but that time when i change FSB i couldnt boot no more , even with a clear cmos.

I think you need to find a compatible memory that will start the board for you. I had this problem when I was using OCZ pc5400 gold and it just wont start. Using another set solved the problem

I had the same problem with my DS3. Gigabyte tech concluded that the bios was corrupt. I was all set to RMA it when I decided to give it one last try. Instead of just pressing and releasing the power button, I held it down for about 5 seconds and the mobo beeped and posted. I haven't had a problem since. It might not work for you but it's worth a shot.

Hi all, thanks for your posts (sorry it was already 2:30am when I posted and had to sleep).

I have now tried everything suggested to no avail.

Left it rebooting for 20-30 mins, no luck.
Tried different ram (A-Data DDR2 533 1.8v)
Tried different slot combo's, single, dual.
Tried different Video Card.
Tried disconnecting all components, some, none.
Tried disconnecting all peripherals, some, none.

Note, unlike others, I never had a problem booting with the G.Skill HZ, nor the A-Data for that matter (original build). The BIOS never complained regardless of whether I left 'normal' or +0.3v.

I'll be sending back under RMA this morning. Hopefully they'll have a new one back to me soon, as this is my main rig I'm pretty screwed for work until I can fix it (hopefully I can run with it's currently unbuilt predessor (GA-8i945Pro/D805) without reinstalling all my work related tools and software.)

I am so pissed, the timing is really bad. And to think, it was all running so beautifully.

The fact that I lapped the cpu and hsf concerns me, but I can't imagine that I've done anything to cause this prob. particularly as it is not an uncommon occurrence for this board and the DS3 (very similar).

Anyway, such is life...

I've heard back from Gigabyte (indirectly) and apparently a CPU socket pin is busted. I am not sure whether it is broken or bent. So, the 'physically damaged' board will be repaired at my expense.

Although I am not convinced that I did this, I do recall some difficulting replacing the plastic protective insert back into the socket for shipping, of all things. (Stupid, I know, but probably due to the variety of socket inserts I've got floating around and the stress I was feeling at the time .) Otherwise, I can't really imagine how I could have broken a socket pin I am quite careful with these things, truly... (No smart-arse comments, please ).

Nevertheless, I will be interested to know whether the board exhibits the original problem after they repair the socket.

This happened to my new DQ6. After flashing the bios to F13D, it starts rebooting constantly with a totally balck screen.

The method described in the post totally doesn't work. Tottaly not!

It reboots before it reads the DVD-ROM.

Sounds like reboot loop or stupid mode as some have named it. A corrupt bios could certainly do that which is not fun. I just RMAd a UD3P last week that was doing thing, just waiting to hear the story.
