help!!! DS3 refuses to overclock in bios

My DS3 has a really strange bios issue... i can change voltages and ram timings easily, but when i enable "cpu host clock control" or i set the pci express frequency to 100 it will restart after the next post and reset the clock settings again
It is a really strange problem, and i have tried 2 bioses (F3 and F4a)
    2 cpus (celeron 2.6 and E6400)
    Thanks for helping me out!

I have found out that it is most likely caused by a conflict between the motherboard and my 6800GT...
Hopefully i will get an x1300 soon to test this theory

I have similar problem with my Asus P5B. The 0170 Bios, which come with the board, can run my Celeron at 3.74Ghz.

    Once I flashed with 0211 Bios, I couldn't even overclock to 3.0Ghz (It's a Celeron 341 2.93Ghz)

Strange bios problem. Back to 0170 bios and running at 3.74Ghz 1.415V.. the chip even boot at 4Ghz, but isn't prime stable.

it was definately the graphics card... i changed from my 6800GT to an x1300 pro and i am now at 400fsb... Thanks to Thrawn, who pointed this out to me, i was able to confirm it.

I'm not sure, but this might be what's causing my problems with my X1800XT. Not sure though.

    great...................
I've been in a Conroe mood since they've started the hot and heavy sales pitches and the reviews have all been promising. but now how is it - that all "real world" users can't overclock with certian video cards. When a video card costs 3x what a mobo costs, i'm not going to throw it out becuase a board refuses to work with it. Esp when, i'm NOT an ATI fan to begin with.
I've got a Gigabyte DS3 sitting here in a box - and i'm afriad to deal with it. I'm on a P5WD2 board zinging a P4-640 along at 4Ghz. I want to upgrade, I just can't sell myself on the NEED............................not when i'm reading about all of these issues.

Sure, early adopters always have growing pains. but its still a mobo/cpu combo. Why is it so hard? dang the industry..............DANG THEM

try clear CMOS ... people should know that a lot of problem can be solved simply by clearing CMOS ...

i had that problem where when ever i tried to OC and then save setting and restart .. it just disable the overclock option ... clear CMOS solved it

I have a DS3 with this problem too. Jumpering the CMOS clear does NOT make the overclock work.

I got it working once before through persistance. After it started working, it continued to work until I added a 2nd DIMM, then it stopped. I removed the 2nd DIMM but it still wouldn't go back to working.

After several days of trying I got it to work again today with 1 DIMM. I have a Celeron 2.53 ghz and a 7600GS video card. Today it started working when I set the PCI-Express speed to 115. Setting to 100 didn't work. The results when it works are pretty impressive, the Celeron went from 2.5 to 3.9 ghz stable.

Now I want to try my 2nd DIMM again, but I'm afraid to touch it and lose my 60% overclock again...

Have you tried setting the memory divider to 2.00 instead of AUTO.. I have simular problems when I leave it at auto, once i change fsb it will not fully post with OCd settings? Something to check/try if you have not already...

i'd like to post my findings that i made today...hope it'll help...

    1. i'm still using the 7600gt to OC and to my surprise, when i switched it from DVI to vga output, the OC CAN be done. this may prove that probably my gfx actually have problem.

    2. i'm able to OC using single channel of ram and not dual channel ie. using only 1 stick. i've ran dual channel to OC and it worked before, but somehow or rather, now only 1 stick will work with OC. both rams passed memtest. my opinion would be might be the value select ram is a bit too crappy to the board's liking.

    3. try not to plug in USB mouse. my board is able to OC without USB mouse. Ps2 mouse will do just fine. this also applies to keyboard.

    4. when i OC with all the above conditions, the enabling of usb legacy support doesn't really come into play. i guess it's not affecting mine.

that's all that i've found out for today. i'm still not OC-ing my board cos no PS2 mouse. btw, i'm getting another replacement gfx and hope to post more findings.

Must you post the exact same thing in every single thread that says DS3 in it?

Yeah i know, there are 3+ threads like this floating around about the same thing... that is the only way to tell everyone

I have sold my 6800GT, so i cannot do any more tests now for ways to overcome this with a 'buggy' card... good luck guys!

@ moderators! can we somehow reduce the number of DS3 overclocking problem threads to one big sticky?
