great! cant't wait for your results.

Ground.. go check out other mods for definition/explanation. Usually when measuring, I use the back bracket of the video card as ground (ie after double checking I indeed have the correct contact point, and multimeter set to voltage measure, stick the red probe on the measure point, then touch the back bracket with red probe)

PS: I would recommend using very very thin wire (IDE cable?), and nice good electrical solder for this 7900GT volt mod job.

You can also use molex black cable for ground, as well as nearby land pads and unused solder points on the video card PCB.. nearby ones for capacitors are usually ground, but always make sure to measure that they are connected to ground with multimeter.

What about doing the pencil trick between pin 21 and 22 ?

I think you can get 1.4V right away.

sure, but isnt a piece of wire easier? Just as difficult to pencil such tiny spot.

buckle up and stock up on supplies, its going to be a long wait. The only video card I can think of that has "soft-mod" voltage control is X1800/X1900. There is no guarantee you would be able to do the same with another card.

Besides, just because it seems difficult (it isnt) doesnt mean you cant get it done. Just ask one of dozens of xtremesystems members who would be glad to do it for you.

EDIT: inevitably, someone will mention pencil again... once again, I don't see how you could precisely get the lead ONLY between those two points. Pencil is good for lowering resistance of SMD resistor, but in this case I think its easier to jam tiny wire in there, or better yet, solder between those points. This is really really small IC... things in jpg may appear bigger than in real life

Great job guys in finding a solution to the OVP!!!

Now GTX speeds are easily possible with good cooling.

I'm really itching to get one 7900 GT, but unfortunately I'm not that wealthy so am looking to buy a Asus 7900 GT, so no extreme version. Will it make a large difference with maximum overclock or is it impossible to tell something about it ?

    Excellent Mod guys.

So this mod is an alternative to the other voltage mods using the variable resistors?

Does it work on a 7900 GTX?

How do the 7900 GTX overclocks equate to increased gaming performance? That's what I'm curious about when seeing all these 3D benches.

I see these clocks getting higher than the X1900 XTX cards so does this mean that they will outperform (on average) versus the X1900 cards that don't have as much overclocking headroom (higher heat, larger process)?

Basically, I see these cards at stock performing almost identical in games such as BF2. However, will the 7900 GTX pull comfortably ahead with the larger overclocking headroom?

    NO,
although they're huge power hogs, and get really hot, X1900's have fundamental architectural changes which simply make them more efficient. Similar to how 6800's were always faster in Doom3 than X800's because of ultrashadow etc.. 7900GTX is cooler/less-power for sure, but that alone doesnt guarantee huge overclocks.

As already mentioned 1000 times, in most games X1900XTX and 7900GTX are neck and neck, with upper hand for ATI in FEAR and especially COD2.

Placed the following and so far the card is rock stable with great results...
    Bios
    Core : 530 - Geometric Delta Clock 40.
    Memory : 775 ( 1550 ).

I would push it more but no reason for that at least not now..
Anyone tried to change the PCI Express Frequency Speed to see if it impacts the cards speed ??

Oh man, that is just awesome for a couple of 7900gt's...

...guess if I'm itchin' for my eVGA 563 to show up, it's coming in from the Egg...only needs to do a pit stop over at nn_step (a premium XS member that kindly took me under his wings, thanks bro ) and then into my empty PCI-E slot...
I'm sitting here with my 2mb 800x600 16bit PCI desktop card and are seeing those number fly by....not easy, not easy.
