    FX-55 and G.Skill LA's can't go above 220MHz

    Hi m8's

    I Bought a F1-3200DSU2-512LA G.Skill RAM.

I've trouble to reach OCs above 220MHz (HTT or FSB). Memtest is OK but SuperPi Fails and Prime95

    This is my rig:

    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (January) nForce3 Ultra 250 (0452A2 Korea)
    Athon 64 FX-55
PC Power & Cooling TurboCool 510Dlx
Cooled by Vapochill LS (-55°C Evap)

I've tried switch Command Rate T1 to T2, and only this way I can reach more than 220MHz but... the performance loss is substantial.

My OverClock Settings at BIOS are:
    Cell Menu:
    LDT = 4X
    Agressive Timings = Disabled
    Spread Spectrum = Disabled
    NV/ATI Speed = Disabled
    VDimm = 2.5V
    CPU Ratio = 12
    VCore = 1.500V

Ok and this is what I have tryed:
    Other MSI Neo2 Mobo
    Increase VDimm doesn't helps
    Increase VCore doesn't helps
Down the LDT or HTT Multiplier to 3x, doesn't helps
Tryed each stick separately, both run on Single Channel at 310 T1 2.5-4-4-8.

I know that T1 on 300MHz and Dual Channel are hard to get, but... at 250?, I conform to 250 1:1 on T1, but I can't hit it.

This is a copy from a PM that I sent to OPB, but you know he's a busy person and you guys have a lot of experience, so... here I'm ready for your advise.

    Thanks

Do You use SATA? If, notice that only the ports 3&4 (near CPU) are locked........

I noticed you are running a vapo...

Try the 1.5x BIOS's...this is the BIOS made for sub zero temps...this could be why the ram wont go over 220...the memory controller might be "freezing"...

Thumbs down The WALL still there...

    That's right m8s, I can't broke that wall...

I've tried BIOS: 1.3B6Mod, 1.5X, supplied by HARDCORECLOCKER and glock19owner, respectively.

Also I tried down the HTT Ratio to 2x and CPU Ratio to 8, but I can't go over 220MHz.

Only if I change the Command Rate timing to 2T I can go over. That's sucks hard... I know that... T2 are very lousy on RAM performance... and only its compensated at 300MHz Speed.

    Increase VDimm, doesn't works.
Increase the VCore doesn't works either.

This CPU can hit 3.2GHz on 16 multiplier, and 200FSB with 1.65V, so I think is a very good clocker, can support higher frequencies.

Damn, I don't want to accept it, but it seems that my memory controller suckz, don't u?

Please OPB where are u men? :P

Well... I'll try with out SATA HDs conected, and only a HD IDE.

    Any advise is welcome...

    Are on 1&2 Slots m8.

I had a Neo2 Platinum (September) nForce 0420A2 Korea, their slots 3&4 doesn't works at all. Just gives me BSOD. But... I've not tested it on this Neo2 Platinum (January)

Have you set the cpu and mem speed low and just tested HTT overclock?
    Less is more.

Didn't have single problem with above mentioned setup with 1.4 bios when I had it... in fact, it was more stable than 1.36 mod :P Got spare mobo to try? Prime suspect now is CPU and mobo. MSI doesn't seem to have very good quality control. (I've had 2 boards that failed over time on memory issue while cpu was fine... bit strange but true and one that came with on channel dud... I did go through about total 8 boards I think)

mmmh I decrease the HTT Multiplier to 2x, and the CPU Ratio to 8. This way... I can reach 2000MHz CPU (on spec), and a HTT Speed lower than 1000MHz.

The RAM runing lower (166,133,100 dividers) I'll check it.

    I just want 250 1:1 with T1.

I'm just saying have you ruled out the motherboard as a bad clocker. In other words, setting everything to auto including mem timings and ldt with a multi of 5 or 6 and using the 100MHz mem divider. Then increase htt...if it goes over 220 you can rule it out as the culprit.

    What is your cpu stepping?
    Less is more.

Update: I set the CPU ratio to 6, LDT to 2, Mem Frecuency to 100MHz, and I can ramp up the HTT (or FSB if you like ) up to 290MHz T1 2.5-2-2-5 2.5V DC, the RAM is running at 145MHz.

I sent a PM to OPB, also login at G.Skill forum looking for help or support, but have no answers... until now

How far have you increased vdimm to? To be honest with you, 2.5v is way too low for that.

How far above 220 you can memtest? Note that you will need more vdimm to get stable while in Windows than what was needed for memtest... That's why I kind of stopped using "good-ol" memtest and went for MemTest for Windows v3.1. E.g with my set of 2x256MB I can I need to increase vdimm to 2.8v while in windows to get it stable @ DDR606.

Also, I didn't have much luck in keeping 7-3-3-2.5-1T timmings. It's stability ends somewhere around DDR570. Only 7-4-3-2.5-1T makes it to DDR606.

Play with DIMM slots... Rotate sticks... Put them in slots 3 and 4... See how it goes.

OK, a little update of this situation.

Yes of course I tried a higher VDimm from 2.50 to 2.85, and... mostly VDimm higher than 2.60 gives me more errors, more instability.

OK, I checked connect the SATA from 3 or 4, to 1 (Yes I know it suppose to be unlocked) and I've no changes the wall still there.

Then remove the dimms from slots 1&2 and tested on 3&4, it seems that this slots doesn't work right, because on others motherboards had problems with that, also this one. BSOD and sometimes no boot up.

I've temps erractic, sometimes 112°C or -35°C, this happens too with my lately board Neo2.

Frankly I'm disappointed, I hoped more attention of the support of G.Skill. (isn't bash)

For the next one, I'll buy OCZ, at least with they I've a faster feed back with thier consumers.

I havent seen this mentioned at all...

But have you been to G. Skills Forum and PMed Jack with your issue...I noticed I havent seen OPB posting on this thread...so Jack over at Skills Forum would be your best bet...he is very detailed on his replies, so he might know of a known issue or just might have your RMA them directly to Skills...

This is much faster then trying to fix the issue through emails with tech support...

Okay so will the above test work if you are trying to find out if you are RAM or Mobo limited in your OC. I suspect in my case it is mobo limiting my OC on my A64. So if I do the above test and I can't take the HTT above what I can currently then that means the mobo is the culprit, but if I can then that means the RAM is the culprit. Is this correct.

I am not including the chip in this equation as in another setup it has done 2.85, currently it will only do 2.65 stable.

man, I am so sorry about that I did not get your pm.

I will have some suggestion here:

    very important:

Did you switch the rams you insert the ram socket?
I have that experience about that.
Also, if you have vapo LS, try the stock cooling first.
Don't set the ram speed for auto. Set it as 200.

I remembered something... how are your mobo with Vaop mounting? Is it bent? Significant bending in motherboard might give not optimal contact on memory and causing potential instability. Check it out and see if that is the case with you. I had to be very careful when I was doing custom mounting on Mach II with baker evap to make sure everything was going to be okay
