    Winchie vs FX memory controller

    Is this normal?

    Winchester 3200+ @ 280x9 1:1 Cas 2'5-3-3-7 1T -> 8049mb/s
    FX-55 @ 280x10 1:1 Cas 2'5-3-3-8 1T -> 7574mb/s

    Shouldn't FX got higher memory bandwidth with a 10X multiplier? Is the WC bandwidth too high or the FX bandwidth too low?

    I've just repeat it with the FX an TRC@11, got 7731mb/s.

    the memory bandwidth will scale with the cpu speed since the memory contoller is on the die.

    Then 280x10 same timings should be higher than 9x280 as I said.

    This is just plain weird. I thought the FX has a 'better' mem controller than a winnie. Where is the beef?

    Mine? Somewhere around 2.5GHz right now. I am having a hell of a time trying to get any kinda speed out of this BH-5 though. Its killing me. I need some TCCD and fast.

    Interesting... maybe this is the reason winnies don't usually do to well on high FSB memory... (since they already are processing more data than previous design of core?)

    maybe the lower FSB isn't hurting it as much so that even tho your not doing 280mhz or something like that 'ol NC your still doing better. Maybe its taking better use of the theritcal amount of bandwidth. Since single channel DDR400 does only something like 30xx or 31xx Maybe its able to better use this bandwidth...OCZ EB...mmmm...

    What's the highest mem clock you've seen on a winnie? 280's not bad, but I would like to see tccd do ddr600 on a winnie. anyone?

    there was meant to be some revisions in the winchester core, subtle ones, and 500mb/s theoretical bandwidth is quite subtle in most games/ apps

    Yes it is.
    I've done some more benchies with the winchester 3200+, it gives me 8350Mb/s at 295 2'5-3-3-11 1T (quite unstable).
    The FX reboots @ 287Mhz.

    actually what you really want to do to make sure its a fair comparison is download Code Red's Athlon 64 memory tweaker and make sure every setting is the same accross both processors.
    Because I noticed different A64's configure their Memory controllers in different ways even beyond the common x\x\x\x values. Even at the same speed the write timings are different a lot of times and the stuff on the right column of that program make sure they are the same.

    I ready use A64 tweaker for all timings.
