If it's not then maybe diff voltage levels, or a over heated crystal, whatever.
Perf loss is min, but if the tables aren't complete then you may have troubles clocking it up in diff ways.

The thermal resistance values for the LMA gel is slightly higher as compared to Indium performance (intels indium solder), but the main benefits are ease-of-use and significantly lower cost, as the process does not require additional metallization of the die and heat sink.

Pastes are 3-5 w/mk, solder 88 w/mk and many newer polymers listed around 30 w/mk. So delidding and adding 20 w/mk metallic tim shouldnt be necessary or beneficial, even if decreasing bondline thickness.

I think Microcenter takes a loss on CPUs , especially if the tray 1000qty. prices are true. Their goal is to get you into the store and buy other stuff. If you've ever been inside, its like Candyland . They will make the most profit accessories on accessories, cables, food, cooling, etc. If the pricing holds, and they offer Mobo combos on top of this then that would be awesome

Yeah MC always has crazy CPU prices. They sell 1 of each per household (they enforce it) and the techs will usually try to sell you a mobo/ram/case/psu combo too until they realize you know more about the stuff they sell than they do

4790k is still C0 stepping, so am I right to assume that it will be exactly the same as the other Haswell chips? so why is everybody getting so exited about it? because it has different TIM???? or will retail 4790K be a new stepping??

not bad, but not forget, its validation. PRO overlers get valdiation at 5400 MHz with allinone liquid (CM) and voltage around 1.6 V. Validation is far far away from stable or from benchmarking. But of course, 5400 is nice results for Haswell and validation file. My binned 4770K can get around 51xx MHz, there is the wall :-/

My Gigabyte Z87X-OC has the F8 BIOS which supports the 4690 & 4790 (both non K listed), it should support the K editions just fine if it supports those though right?

No, non-K versions are plain old Haswell. K versions of those numbers are Devil's Canyon and require a BIOS update, which should be coming soon for Gigabyte Z87 boards.


In other news, #1 anniversary Pentium, week 32, does 4,72 GHz at 1,34 V aircooled. Post @ 4,8 with 1,42V, no post higher no matter what volts. Substrate is not new like Devil's Canyon, it's plain old 2C+GT2 substrate. TIM might be new, but I can't check on this CPU
