Quotes such as "world's fastest" should ALWAYS be taken as a stock-for-stock comparison. Duh, when you overclock all bets are off. But that's not the point at the moment. MOST people aren't going to go hog wild overclocking.

I'd much rather have something like Mantle (if it proves to be adopted and useful) and TrueAudio (again, if it proves to be a benefit) vs gsync that requires not just the card but extra special hardware too.

What's this talk of overclocked cards beating stock other cards? Quit being petty. Stock card vs stock, overclocked vs overclocked. If the 780 doesn't beat the Titan or the 290x with both at factory, then it doesn't beat it. That leaves the two fastest cards in the comparison for top dog. It IS at the moment R9 290x, then Titan, and in third Gtx 780. Whether GTX 780ti changes that remains to be seen.

As I see it at stock, the gtx titan and r290x are equals. They trade blows with each other enough times that there is no clear winner. AND if you warm of the cards before hand, it loses a few points to Titan. In addition, remove of couple gaming evolved titles from the testing suite(sleeping dogs or dirt showdown) and it becomes even more contestable what is fastest.

The only time it does become faster in most settings, is if you turn on a uber setting(which is not turned on by default) where it is uncomfortable loud and basically has an overclock on it.

I wasn't talking about overclocked cards beating stock cards either. I was talking taking cards to the max with ln2 with both cards. Since I thought aussie revhead was into benching and we are talking about world records and benchmarking, I think we should talk about max overclocks of both cards.

Titan from day 1, could reach past 1700mhz(they are well past this now closing in on 1900mhz). And with Titan and r9 290x being so similar clock for clock as seen from the hardware.de review, that advantage is enough to keep it as the worlds fastest from a benching overclockers standpoint.

There's no overclocking on Uber mode, the only thing who change is the fan speed who is higher.. the max clock is allways the same, but it maintain it more as the temperature is less quickly reached but it is louder.. so you do a choice. Maybe we can say the fanspeed is overclocked. Ofc, this will be down really quickly if you have an AIB version with a different cooler but who run too at 1ghz.

As for LN2, well it will be more determined by performance scaling with clock....

I dont know if driver can improve performance, maybe yes maybe not, but i see on some game some behaviour when compared to the 7970ghz... so there's maybe a good possibility we will seen some performance increase ( not by much, but who know on the case by case ).. Then in some months, the game panel could too be really different, there's many games in preparation, i can allready see some who fill favor Nvidia coming and some who will favor AMD.

Tajoh- yes I benchmark, I enjoy it, I like to get the most out of all of my hardware but I'm not an LN bencher so I like to look at stock comparison but also potential to push further. Nvidia seem to like having a lot of headroom compared to AMD, this can be seen clearly in the current 780/290x/Titan battle. This being an enthusiast website, and we are all enthusiasts, so overclocked performance is a very important point. I look forward to water cooled 290's and modded bios to unleash the hidden power, then we will see if 290 holds the crown at the end but it is very close so the competition will be fun.

Again I am talking synthetic benchmarks, actual gaming performance is a whole seperate ball game with so many variables to influence results. I will be comparing BF4 at 2560x1440 as this is my current need.

Guys can you post up clocks and bench results? I haven't seen any do 1200mhz yet but I'm sure it will come soon.

Hopefully, they shouldn't be to far away. After all, there are water blocks already on sale. Surely someone on here must have one or two.

Like how TWIMTBP titles should have been pulled also?

Actually doesn't leave a whole lot if you pull titles that may have optimizations for one brand or the other.

Yip, as I said a few weeks ago and explained why:

Ace123, how are you defining stock speeds? If NVIDIA reference speeds only, then by all means. If you're allowing for AIB partner overclocks such as the EVGA GTX 780 Classified and Zotac GeForce GTX 780 AMP! Edition both sitting around 1150 MHz out of the box (stock?), then no, the GTX 780 and GTX TITAN swap places until you crank up the resolution.

Thanks chispy, now all we need is stock on the shop shelves ... Asus bios seems to unlock 2.0v so is there a need to vmod (on water not LN)?
