That's funny that a 4-month wait is a fast answer on Nvidia's end, but forever when it takes AMD 4-months. I'm not of you implying this, but others claimed AMD's answer to Titan was slow...when I thought it was quite fast.

If the Hawaii XT card can compete or even slightly beat TITAN, all NVIDIA has to do is lower the GTX 780's price which would mean OC versions (which tend to beat TITAN anyways) would at least match AMD while offering a conceivably lower price point. I would be unsure of how easy it is to lower the price on a die as large as GK110. It would be mostly marketing reasons. New launches generate alot of press hype and with games like battlefield 4 being launched/bundled with the new card, there is a huge amount of potential to hurt nvidia sales. If these lose the single chip crown, it gives AMD alot of marketing power. They are reporting record margins. So not only are price cuts possible but big ones at that. I would hope that yields would have improved at this point to for gk110 since it has been about a years since these chips have been shipping to customers.

I'm guessing not particularly hard. Nvidia priced the gtx 680 (gk104 die) for a long time at the initial planned launch price of the gk110 die. So for one, that says they had a huge profit margin to sit on, and for another it suggests that they can easily price the gtx 780 at $500 (their traditional high end launch price, or at least as far as the gtx 480 that is true).
Why poor? Finally AMD has better drivers than NV (you are lucky if your NV drivers actually play the games you want) and now they need a desperate refresh.Poor Amd,

NVIDIA is done their refresh. Their next move is next gen products on 20nm. At this point, anything on 28nm is pretty much "current gen".
Out of curiosity, is the gt780 really considered a refresh? As I understood it gk110 was supposed to be the gtx 680, but it wasn't ready/wasn't needed
The fact that they've just managed to fix Crossfire stuttering doesn't mean they have better drivers.

Hm, nvidia fixed their SLI microstutter years ago with little fanfare... AMD makes a big dog and pony show about partially fixing it YEARS late, and suddenly they have "better drivers" despite still being months upon months for profile updates and having plenty of other deficiencies? Sorry, but I disagree to say the least.

To be honest, there have been some issues lately, basically with all R320 or R325 drivers to some extent. Freezing (GTX 460 owners), cards not clocking down during browsing, corruption in BF3...but I wouldn't judge drivers on this alone or on a relatively short timeframe.

in the past they have just left there prices higher and relied on marketing to make most people out there believe they are getting what they pay for

I didn't buy a 780 (I bought a 7970 and later a GTX 680) but telling that AMD got better drivers than nVidia is really a good joke.
But going from your side, it's quite normal as AMD is always the best on your mouth, even when they do cr$p.

You missed out on the days of MMOG gaming when nvidia couldnt write drivers that remove stuttering on their cards when the ati cards did run just fine.

Utter nonsense. There is no conclusive proof that drivers killed cards.
20nm GPU will be only a paper launch until mid-2014. The early GTX8xx will be 28nm GPU.
Maxwell brings only a small increase in performance against Kepler, until 20nm production ready. Maxwell has great power efficiency, has Huma functions and is more efficient, its advantages are NOT Performance at first. It is tweaked Kepler with few new features.
