Not everyone has a reliable connection (I've had a borked Fios connection for over a month before) or always has access when they want to play a game like this. Playing on a train/plane, or at the office killing some time on your own laptop between tickets; now no longer an option.

Their model is trying to make their customer conform their lifestyle in order to play their game, rather than putting the customer first. But thanks for your condescending tone.
