I just build my i5-3570k last week on an Extreme6 motherboard, I'm very happy with it! I am using BIOS 1.94 and modded it with a newer Asmedia, Intel SATA ROM, and even though I don't use it, Broadcom ROM.

How about this though... it did surprise me a little regarding memory. I am running Gskill 2x8gb DDR3-2400 RAM (F3-2400C10D-16GTX) at 10-12-12-31-1N, I was very surprised that it has been perfectly stable at 1N, even after stress testing, memtest etc. I am also running a refresh period of 14500, instead of 9380. The rest of the settings are on auto. I think this would have to do with the newer BIOS, because on the original bios I don't think the system liked it too much! When I first turned on the computer (very first time), I had to press the clr CMOS switch at the back for it to boot (which put the memory back to DDR3-1333). I already premodded the bios so that was the first thing I did after I made sure the system would boot again after turning off. This had nothing to do with the RAM settings, because as I said, it was stock at that stage!

As I am running 2xCoolermaster Excalibur fans for the CPU:
    Speed (R.P.M.) 600 - 2000 RPM ± 10%
    Air Flow (CFM) 26.4 - 85.6 CFM ± 10%
    Air pressure (mmH2O) 0.75 - 3.53 mmH2O

I modded the AXTU config files (what is the difference between the z77e6.xml file and z77e6TB4.xml file? mine uses z77e6TB4.xml) to adjust the fan profiles, with these cpu fans it makes no difference to the cooling between around level 5 and level 9 apart from noise, so I scaled the new settings so level 9 to basically what level 5-6 was, although it doesn't seem to make any difference... lol. Any way to limit the max CPU fan speed?

EDIT: Using Speedfan now (you have to set it up properly for CPU fan control), seems to have much better CPU fan control options.

Hi! I've AsRock Z77 Extreme 6, and with last bios v2.0 (vs 1.9) AsRock has ruined the LLC settings!
Auto or manual 2-5, if you change the multiplier, the bios set forcefully at Level 1 (max level, potentially dangerous) with result of +0,050v on vCore.

Someone can report this to AsRock? I hope they will fix it soon...

    Asrock z77 extreme4

Heys guys, i have a extreme 4, 3570k and a 660ti, and for the life of me i cannot get the pci-e slots to run at 16x... in the 1st slow it caps at 4x regardless of bios settings, and in the 2nd slot it caps at 8x regardless of bios settings. I'm running the lastest bios as well.

I know 16x vs 8x is a marginal performance difference if any, but it still bugs me that it's only running at 8x (even using gpuz's render test it only goes to 8x pci-e 3.0) I've researched it and the most common solution is that it's a 'faulty' motherboard, but everything else runs flawlessly with the board. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Hi there.

As I'm currently gathering information for a much need upgrade for my Q6600, I've selected the Extreme4 as my future system's base. However, I still have some doubts about the board. Asrock was a low budget brand that seems to be trying to make a mark in the enthusiast market this last few years, offering good performance solutions with very aggressive pricing.

In this case, I'm kind of worried about the PCB of the board. I've read a lot of reviews and comments about the smaller form factor regarding the ATX standards, but not that much regarding the number of layers or thickness of the board.
Is this something i should be worried about regarding the component's longevity?

Keep in mind I'm coming from an ASUS P5Q-Pro and a G0, and planning this investment quite carefully since money is an issue right now. I'm looking to build a system that can withstand a few years still. I'll be pairing the Asrock with a 3570K, 8GB of Corsair Vengeance and keeping my HD 6870 from HIS.

Any feedback on this matter is highly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I just got my new rig up and running and seeing a very strange OC'ing issue. Here are my parts:
    i7-3770K
    Z77 Extreme4
    4x8GB G.Skill Trident X DDR3 2400 running at 2400
    HD 6850
    Win7 64bit Ultimate

I have the CPU, SB, Fets all under water and temps don't really get to high. When I set the multiplier in the BIOS it wouldn't actually change it as seen with CPU-Z. Also CPU-Z was seeing 2 cores and 4 threads. I tried clearing CMOS, Upgrading to 2.4 BIOS and then downgrading to 2.3. Same thing. Then I tried per core and still same issues. Then when I turned off Hyperthreading it actually changes the multiplier and I see 4 cores and 4 threads in windows. When I turn hyperthreading on the multiplier stays at the stock 35x and I only see 2 cores and 4 threads in CPU-Z. I'm at a lose here and not to sure what else to do.

I just upgraded from my Q6600 and Asus Maximus Rampage running at 3.6ghz. I'm using the Z77 Extreme4, 3770K, and 32GB of G.Skill Trident X DDR32400 memory. It is running at 4.5ghz with nothing but a +.010v increase in CPU offset voltage. It's literally 2x faster in SuperPi. I had my Q6600 for 7 years and I think I'll be able to go another 6-7yrs with this setup. You can get 32GB of Geil DDR1866 memory for only $180. Grab a newer SSD if you don't have one and you won't have to touch a thing for some time to come. I'm using a HD6850 for a video card and have no problems with any games. Think Borderlands 2 is the only newer game I'm playing and it capps out the balanced setting of 62fps at 1080p settings.

I replaced the MB and it fixed the cores not showing up correctly. I was having strange hang up issues like software not being able to install fully or Windows not being able to shut down. I found it to be the Asmedia USB3.0 drivers as the cause. I downloaded the newest set of their site and it fixed that issue. I also disabled Legacy USB 3.0 in the BIOS as I don't need it anyways. I would have to say this is the best purchase I've made in some time.

Hello everyone, new guy here. I have built an Asrock Z77 extreme 4 system, and have been experiencing BSOD usually memory management. I am using a G. Skill F3-12800cl9q-16gbxl memory kit. Running memtest, I get thousands of errors with 4 modules in or 1 module in. I have not gone thru the process of running each module in each slot individually, and rerunning memtest. This weekend I hope, it is starting to get irritating. I have upgraded the bios to 2.1, and am currently running with 8gb installed, slots 1 and 3. The BSOD have increased since removing 1/2 the memory. I am running the I5 2500k chip with this. All my bios settings are stock except for the following; spread spectrum = disabled, speedstep = disabled, xmp 1.2 profile 1, memory set for ddr3-1600, dram @ 1.525 volts, VTT @ 1.104 (these setting recommended from the G. Skill tech support forum), thermal throttling = disabled, Enhanced halt state c1e = disabled. Rapid start and smart connect have been disabled. Any help with settings would be appreciated to get this resolved, the memtest results just seem very unusual, but I am no expert in this.
    Regards, Randy

Try the latest UEFI (2.5) from HERE. Update the UEFI through DOS using a bootable pen drive. After the update restart as prompted, power down, remove CMOS battery, PSU power cord and set the CMOS jumper to "clear". Leave for 5 mins then push the power button 3-4 times (discharges capacitors), then boot the system and see if things are working correctly. It'll also be worth reseating the graphics card.

You don't need to worry, the PCB thickness is good (I'd guess 6 layers). The board will serve you well without doubt

This pure and simple sounds like bad memory, return it for replacement. Before doing that though set timings manually to 9-9-9-25 2N, and set voltage manually to 1.55v. If that doesn't work you'll need to return the memory for replacement.

Not much love for these boards? Last post was 10 days ago. I just got an extreme6 to upgrade to Z77 from my P67A-UD5 board and am wondering if I made the right choice now. Everything seems fine so far but I am not used to the uefi bios yet.

The Z77 Extreme 6 has been out a while now, activity has died down because any encountered problems have been resolved which as such means everybody is off enjoying a bug free stable mainboard

I did just notice something odd in the bios. It is reporting my 3770K is running at 60c+. Boot into windows and I idle around 35c. Other than that this seems like a really sweet board.

I've asked my contacts about this repeatedly through P67, Z68 and Z77 and never really got a proper answer. Best guess: The UEFI reads actual core temp, not surface IHS temp.

No love for the Extreme3 ? Only a few things separate it from the Extreme4 (LAN/Audio Chipset), slot config and less USB 3.0/SATA 6 Gb/s.

I was going to get the Extreme4, but NewEgg couldn't get it in stock when I was making the upgrade. Now I am perfectly happy with the Z77 Extreme3 and won't be returning for an Extreme4.

Basically wondering if I should post in this thread when I have questions.

I want to update to Z77 from P67 with an I7 2600k acquired before the intel "problems", would that make it first generation, hence incompatible.

Edit: I should have googled more thoroughly, sandybridge, it is second generation.

I've uploaded modded bioses for the Z77 Extreme4 2.70 and Z77 Extreme6 2.60 (Asrock just released this one).

    The changes are:
Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent v14.6.9 --> Broadcom NetXtreme Ethernet Boot Agent v15.4.0
    Asmedia 106X SATA/PATA Controller Ver 0.93 Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.93 --> Asmedia 106X SATA/PATA Controller Ver 0.951 Asmedia 106X SATA Controller Ver 0.951
    Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge PCI Accelerated SVGA BIOS Build Number: 2137 PC 14.34 03/14/2012 20:08:25 --> Intel(R) Sandybridge/Ivybridge PCI Accelerated SVGA BIOS Build Number: 2143 PC 14.34 05/22/2012 19:43:15
    Intel(R) RAID for SATA - v11.2.0.1527 --> Intel(R) RAID for SATA - v11.6.0.1702

The ROM names and versions above are taken directly from the ROM files.

The files are in self extracting 7zip format. The archives contain both the original and the modded versions (modded versions are with a 'M' suffix). Extract the files to a fat32 USB stick, reboot, and press F6 to enter the Bios flash utility. Alternatively you can access this through the bios setup.

Bios settings will return to default after you flash, this is normal! You will have to reset everything back up. You will also lose any saved profiles.

I've been modding the Z77 Extreme6 bios for several releases now, I just thought I'd share! I haven't tested the Extreme4 modded bios, but the option modules are the same.

The bioses have no other changes apart from the updated option modules. If anyone knows of later versions than in these, let me know and I'll update them

I was going to get the Extreme4, but NewEgg couldn't get it in stock when I was making the upgrade. Now I am perfectly happy with the Z77 Extreme3 and won't be returning for an Extreme4.

Basically wondering if I should post in this thread when I have questions.
You can if you want. The Extreme3 isn't in the same class which is why its not mentioned here, but the boards are similar.

    - press RESET CMOS ON side of mobo
    - Jumper bios

Did you disconnect all power and pull the battery then press the power button 3-4 times? Sounds like some kind of short to me.

As the new Extreme 4 bios is out (now 2.80), I uploaded the 2.80 modded version of it. There is no update for the Extreme 6 currently.

Thanks, updated and it?s working fine. Just bought the Extreme4 board today together with a 3570K. Any hints on what to change in bios and not for overclocking?
