This seems again not exciting for high end desktop users I read somewhere that the IPC would be around 10% higher. Looks like my overclocked 2600K will have a LONG life.

Pretty sure the Gene will be fully ready on launch day and the Formula will follow 2/3 weeks later or so. Strategy worked for Z77, so why change.

I will jump onto the notebook Haswell as soon as it arrives.. Like the new iGPU a lot.

As for the desktop it would be a downgrade for me until -EPs start hitting the market a year or something from now.

it also has an on chip task scheduler, that should really help out non threaded loads.

somehow haswell looks boring to me until now - not going to jump on it early, waiting for some first scores...

I just don't understand why Intel gimps themselves by not offering six and eight core processors for the mainstream?! It's not like they would interfere with server and workstation sales, since they're always on different sockets anyways. It really really pisses me off, i love overclocking and building new machines to tinker with but i just can't justify the price difference. Even though the 8350 may not have the ipc of current intel chips, it still looks like a hell of a lot of fun to mess with. It's sad but the USA is all about greed and it's only going to get worse.

I saw an Intel slide on Anandtech a while back where they claimed higher frequency scaling for Haswell.

Now is there any news on IvyBridge Xeons or Haswell Xeons with more cores so we can at least have those for performance?

if they go back to solder instead of that ty TIM it will get better scaling.

DIE surface is still tiny, they should half the layers in the wafer, double the contact surface.. But that'll add cost massively, and since AMD is not putting Intel under pressure - it simply wont happen.

*Prepared for DrWho to spank my arse with some hardcore knowledge, but I'll still make my bold statement

i would love to see your idea that will never happen, but changing back to solder is very reasonable.

I agree with others who have posted about how this is rather unexciting when considering the Desktop variants... I too wish they would "progress" and bring out 6-8 cores towards mainstream high end.

On the other hand, I am very excited about mobile variants, especially with Intel HD5000. I can finally consider an ultra portable and not worry about the GPU, Intel HD4000 isn't bad, but still leaves me wishing for a discrete chip at times... HD5000 should fix this. We can finally have a rather "full" computing experience in a lightweight form factor(important to some who are sick of lugging around roughly 7 lbs extra in their bag).

As long as the screen resolution is worth a crap. I'm tired of this "HD" nonsense giving me the same vertical pixels as we had back in 1999! That is one of the big reasons I still lug my T60 around. I don't want to have to get some expensive laptop to have a half-decent screen.

Is it safe to assume mainstream 1150 Haswell chipsets will stay limited to 2 x intel SATA 6G ports? While the 'new' 2011 will have potentially more?

there is no new 2011 chipset. and i would assume that they would give 4 sata III so they give people something to upgrade to, but less than 6 so the 2011 still looks to have some point in existing.

As far as I know all the SATA sockets will be SATA 6.0, and there were rumours about a new PCI-E SSD interface standard called SATA Express making its debut around that time too.
