Must be everyone traded in their Asrock Fatal1ty 990FX mobo for the next trick-of-the-week mobo? <LOL>
Just picked up a Fatal1ty 990FX Pro yesterday to replace my trusty old DK 790FX-M2RSH.
I'm curious what the serial number range is on your mobo and what BIOS version it came with. Mine is a 24000 range with V1.80 installed - which surprised me as this must be a recent production mobo. According to Asrock this board has Vishera/Piledriver support from V1.70 onward. V1.80/1.90 have some CPU updates and Win 8 fixes.
You'll see nice performance bumps going to a 1090T and the an FX-8350. Steamroller should be at least as big a jump so you're good for years to come with this mobo.
My motherboard was secondhand and one of the very first going by the serial number.
I'm not sure about the BIOS, I'll check it when I install the board and update if required.
OK cool. Just thought it could be useful comparing notes.
Right now I'm testing V1.80 which came on the mobo. Some folks on other boards think V1.90 may still be buggy??? I know from this and other threads that the early BIOS were in need of many fixes so keep that in mind if you have issues with an early BIOS version.
Right now I'm at 4.8 GHz. solid with the FX-8350 under P95 and OCCT. Core temps are ~55C under 100% load for hours. Still not happy with the Asrock BIOS or VRM throttling issues but I'll be talking with them next week after I test BIOS v1.70 and v1.90. Currently I'm using v1.80.

11-7-12 Update
I don't see much if any benefit as far as overclocking to BIOS v1.70 vs. v1.80 vs. v1.90. If there is some benefit I haven't found it yet. At least with v1.90 which also has Win 8 fixes, you don't have to look at stupid John Fatal1ty's face in the BIOS, so that's a real plus IMO. Asrock did enhance the BIOS background for a 3-D type effect which is nice I guess for reviewers and those who spend all day playing in the UEFI screens. It would have been better to spend that time correcting the VRM overheating issues, IMO.

12-4-12 Update
Extensive testing shows that the VRM circuit phase changes while stress testing can cause a message: "illegal sumout, 0 errors, 100 warnings" in Prime95. Depending on what frequency and Vcore you are running, this can occur after ~45 minutes of P95 blend or sooner with a high Vcore.

I'm very happy with the Asrock 990FX Fatality mobo. It does everything I want and more. Seeing as though Asus mobos are the only ones I've ever had fail in the past 20 years of building PCs for Biz, Asus is not high on my list of preferred mobos.
This is my first Asrock mobo and it's their "high end" model so it's no surprise that it works really well. If you plan to use Win 8 you'll want to upgrade to BIOS 1.90 if your mobo doesn't already come with it. Win 8 is suppose to enhance the FX processors performance a few percentage points above Win 7. IMO Asus mobos are over-rated. They *may* have a few more BIOS adjustments but that doesn't necessarily mean that they overclock any better than the Asrock or Gigabyte mobos.
My FX-8350 will run rock solid @ 4700 MHz. @ 1.425 Vcore with 1.2v CPU-NB on an Xigmatek Aegir HSF, without issues. I can run 4800 MHz. but it takes a big jump in Vcore so it's not worth the effort IMO.

Well my day was made..found the last ( at the moment) 8350. Ordered and paid immediately. CPU and mobo will be in my hands by Wednesday. Looking forward to playing with AMD again..Next 7970 to 8000 series
Excellent. I suspect that you'll like the FX-8350 as it performs well and OC's nicely. One thing that several of us have found is that unlike any other CPU that we have experienced, you can create system instability with the FX-8350 by giving it too much Vcore or CPU-NB voltage - even when there is no heat issue. Keep that in mind if you plan on overclocking. With a good HSF you should be able to hit 4.6-4.8 GHz. reliably depending on all the factors involved.
My FX-8350 requires 1.425 Vcore and 1.25 CPU-NB for 100% P95/OCCT stability @ 4.7 GHz. I can get to 4.8 GHz. stable but it requires a big jump is Vcore so I don't bother for 100 MHz.
Thanks AMDforME, Yes looking forward to getting my setup running. At this point i have no idea what cooler i will be getting. Will have to run the stock one till later or maybe look for old Silverarrow. Getting the AsRock also so all your input highly appreciated. As said the last AMD i had was the 8120 and 8150 and this was when they just hit the market.
For me my PC must just be stable during gaming and yes OC is a must lol
How is your testing going on the BIOS's as indicated in your previous posts: AMDFORME?
Got my mobo and chip. At this stage still installing and updating Win 8. Used the OC profile in bios and running at 4200 mhz. Will play more as time goes on. using a Thermalright Silver Arrow cooler
