We have C and G, C is still better, when G is better than C we will move to it.

I have read now 5 forum threads on different forums all showing EB still doing a lot better than the balisitix....if you want proof my DFI thread at the top of this page has me doing ddr600 at 3.1v 3-2-2-0 with 3500.
Exactly. All the threads I've seen about Ballistix so far, seem to indicate that in general it's doing only a little better than its rated speeds but certainly not the astonishing performance they showed at Anandtech.

That said, most of heavy overclockers do not pay much attention to official reviews anyway. Real experiences are what build a reputation.

well my 2x256 pc3700eb hit 268Mhz @ 2.9v on dfi lanparty nf2 today, cas 3,2,2,somethign, first freaking run, clockgen up in windows, went down after that, board limit, probo. I was more than pleased, now to see how it will do with more voltage. Haven't read anything about EB bar the odd mention but realised it had great potential so tried some out.

Order 2x256mb of ballistix's( no 512 in stock in uk) to see what that can do. IN teh uk at least its £180 per gig, cheapest for EB is about £230 for pc3200 , and about £260 for 3700. I don't expect it to do as well. SO hoping i get lucky.

Well I remember pointing to Anandtech's first review of the OCZ EB modules and most people were claiming it was nothing but a "marketing gimmick". Now people are selling their BH5 and buying EB and claiming its the best thing since sliced bread .......... whether the Crucial rocks or not I still have the 3700EB as well and my Mushies

Everything I've seen from the ballistix has them doing something like 210-217Mhz overclock. Added voltage didn't help. Lets see what happens when more people get them

They will have active cooling, heatspreaders stay on though. If they do well i plan to get 2 more, if not an EB kit. I want to see Doom3 with 2gigs.

    Results Monday or Tuesday.

    thats kinda backwards...

after all, how did you choose your hardware?
you saw someone else having luck with it, and tried it.
I doubt you just one day outta pure luck picked up the DFI and found out what a great board it is.
or just completly randomly found out that mushkin 3500 was good.

almost everybody gets hardware cause of word of mouth,
which is pretty much, just a review...

take a look at the A64 DFI thread.
the boards not even out, but it's probably got 1000 people here ready to buy it already.
    thats a review...

it's Opp and Bigtoes ongoing review of it.
very very few people actually get hardware thats not already known to be good, and learn if it's good or not on thier own.

everybody wants the same things in general.
right now you can name the top PC's almost like clock work.

    P4C800 or IC7.
    800FSB CPU's.
    dangerden, swiftech, Dtek.
    Vapochill, Prometiea.
    DFI, A64, X800XT, 6800 Ultra.
    NF7S, Artic Silver 5.
    OCZ EB, BH5.
    Raptors.

it's all the same usually, all cause someone sees how well someone else did with that hardware.
    cause of someone elses review.

    Nice lesson, Kunaak

I didn't think you put all that meaning into the single word "review". But I think you got a little bit too much into rhetorics here.

In the sense, that every piece of information we got about some hardware from (our friends + other forum members + hardware news sites = community) should be considered a review, you're right. But with my quote, about "review" and "experience" I headed another direction.

Why? Let me say this: in the country I'm living, it's not a common practice to send back a piece of hardware just because it didn't overclock as the buyer has expected, so the words, "real user experience" (or review, whichever way you name it), are even more important for me as my room for manoeuvrability in case of buying less- than-well -overclocking components is way less than for many of other guys here. So I cannot make my purchase decisions only because one or two sites have pronounced a product to be "one of the best we ever have tested".

So where I do get the "sufficient" information, which hardware to buy? Of course, from the community. But now I get into rhetorics myself: to me, I called a "review" an article, information for which usually (but, of course, not always) is gathered from a "manufacturer sent" equipment and compared to other products in the same price/performance segment so that the readers can draw the best conclusions for themselves or, if they're lazy, just read and accept the ones the reviewer has written down for them.

If there was not the tiny probability that the reviewer could have received "handpicked" stuff especially if the review is done with overclocking in mind, many people wouldn't share the information about their experiences on the forums, as all they needed, would be to read Anandtech, Tom's, or any other sites to get the picture.

Of course, reviews from large official sites or smaller, more closer to their readers, provide useful, and, most important, structured insights and comparisons into this or that type of hardware. However, even for pure mathematical background, because those small "reviews" I didn't call "reviews" but called "experiences", are coming from people who have bought the hardware just the way I'm intending to do, they are tiny bits of information from all the community, which, only viewed together, help to draw a statistically lot more stable picture about the hardware I'm interested in.

But basically we speak about almost the same, so these 2 posts might as well have been unnecessary.

Sorry for the errors and typos, it's 1 am here.

Ditto on that... should be here monday. Will have A64 rig and P4 rig to test. (thank god p4 rig has 4:5 memory setting to really test... lol)
Now the A64... I don't think I can go that high of FSB testing due to stupid Chaintech VNF-250 bios doesn't let me do 1:1 (or original one does but than I will be CPU limited due to no FID change).

Yeh whats up with Anandtech ? Even the Crucial site lists it as 2-3-3 and NOT 2-2-2 memory !

eb3700 is 3-3-3 unless I'm mistaken, but noone runs it there.
Hell buffalo 3700 with bh-5's is listed as cas 3. And Bh-5 won't even post at cas 3.

Still, that review reeks of cherry-picked sticks. If I had even a suspician that their results were standard, I'd already have that stuff in my hand.

    They are PC3200 2-3-2, as written here : http://www.crucial.com/media/releases/ballistix.asp

By the way, I recall, at the very beginning Ballistix PC3200 was 2-2-2?

    Here: http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.p...9&postcount=18

Anyway, Crucial Europe is out of Ballistix PC3200 stuff. So maybe the new yield will be the high clocking one

Yeh sorry my bad I meant 2-3-2 , but still not 2-2-2 and Anandtech start by saying it is meant to compete with the best stuff of OCZ, Corsair ect. Plus on the Crucial site they link direct to the Anandtech page where they get such wonderful results with the Ballistix. Anyway, if it can even do 2-2-2 at 200 MHz I will be happy as it's still better than anything else available by me therefore easy to resell

It's available at Crucial UK so I ordered a 256MB stick to test on my K8N, the 256 is cheap enough to give it a punt in case I get "lucky" .

I've changed my name to Anand to make sure I get a good stick

Crucial in the UK have fantastic customer service, the postage is free, it always gets here next business day and today I accidentally ordered 3 sticks, put in an email at 7.30am and by 8.30am they had answered the email and changed it.

Shame they don't sell other peoples stuff

    Regards

    Anandy

I'm really getting super sick of anandtech's memory reviews and am starting to change my otherwise good opinion of the site. EVERY ram they test just does freaking awesome. I keep saying this and no one has seemed to agree with me. You guys see the review for Kingmax DDR500 and stuff? Why dont we all have that? Because everyone else doesnt have a review where it gets good timings and clocks nor on any forum.

Sheesh... good job anandtech, there ram luck is downright freakish. If i had that kind of luck I'd be on an island somewhere with my powerball lotto winnings. Probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning or having a falling airplane part crush me walking down the street. they're incredibly suspect. They should be investigating the cherry picked possibility even if it's not there fault. Even [H] tries to obtain retail samples and/or speculates and divulges much information to there readers on that topic.

    3DMark01 stable. Doom3 timedemo stable.

unfortunately i didn't think i would run into this problem, but this time of year without AC my max stable cpu clock is 235mhz. Heat just takes over past that, so it seems this ram is good, it out done my cpu.

Maybe someone that has better cooling, or a better chip can have better results, but this is the best i can leave you with.

    -edit-

forgot to mention, this is with 2.9v on Abit Ai7.

All Kill3r, can you enable PAT with them on AI7 ? i.e. NB 667 strap with GAT = A-A-A-D-D ?
