Good to hear it worked out then![]()
Hi Guys,
I jumped to the X79 platform in January. My goal was to build an awesome gaming and video editing machine. Unfortunately, the computer I have built has seen nothing but issues since day one. The most recent issue appears to be with my RAM. I ran Memtest last night and I immediately saw errors. I am sending the RAM off to RMA today. My question is how do I know if it is the RAM causing the issue and not the motherboard? I am so frustrated I am tempted to RMA everything I have that is under warranty and starting fresh. Should I just cut my losses and RMA my motherboard and CPU along with my RAM or should I wait for the RAM to come back and see if that solves the issue. I have just started my own business and I need this computer up and running.
Thank you
System Specs:
Asus Rampage 4 Extreme
Intel 3930k
G.Skill Ripjaw Z Series 16GB 2133
EVGA Vanilla GTX 680 x 2
Intel Cherryville 520 180GB Raid 0
Silverstone 1500 watt PSU
Previous issues - Gigabyte UD5 - Receieved bent CPU pins and returned
- ASUS Pro (I forgot the name) Motherboard x79 - Wouldn't boot RMA leading to full return
- OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSDs (RMA Currently in RMA)
- G.Skill Ripjaw Z Series (16GB 2133 Currently in RMA)
Hey guys...
Got a R4Gene 2nd hand... It's hanging at the dreaded A2 post code. I've let it sit for over an hour and it didn't come out of it. I've tried my gpu in all three sockets... The GPU is confirmed to work. I plugged it into my rampage 3 extreme and it works perfectly...
Not sure what to do now...
Edit: nevermind, used usbflashback and went to bios 1404 and everything seems copacetic now.

Hey guys what are the main voltages and settings for CPU overclock i couldn't get my 3939k stable at 4.8 but gone off another guys bios settings and have got it 100% stable with them want to try higher but without going through every setting to find out what setting has made it stable if this makes sense
Just a warning to fellow XS members. Some of you may already know that this is a common problem with Asus design, but...
Beware of the Asus Q-Shield (I/O shield)! I'm on my second RIVE now and the shield just won't fit any case properly. It may go into it's place but when you are placing the motherboard, it just won't go there. Be extra careful not to scratch your board with the standoffs! I finally managed to get my mobo into place but then the shield is greatly bent outwards of the case (hard to explain, like it's bent from the center outwards).
I did some googling and this maybe a common problem with the Q-Shield since there is some extra foam in it...and after all, it's just a piece of metal. But I wouldn't want to destroy my mobo with it.

Looks like ASUS is actually using the same codebase for both the RIVE and RIVG. Nice, considering the matx version of the rampage boards always had bios update issues before. Now we're getting the same bios versions on the same days!

If I understood for the new bios, must first do the update of the "CAP Converter" and after do the upadate the bios?
Thanks

I updated it with the CAP converter and follow by the CAP bios file. You will not be able to see the CAP bios file with EZ Flash 2 before you update the CAP converter. One thing to take note that it will flash the both bios 1 and 2 as I can see both bios LED blinking none stop before the complettion of update.

Use Bios Flashback method to update to this new bios, as the EZ won't allow the flash, but using flashback will work, currently using it myself, extract both files onto a usb stick and follow this--
