They make a screwdriver with a star shaped head, looks like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Torx_01_KMJ.jpg or this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:To...20-T25-T30.jpg

It only takes a minute to remove it. Make sure you apply even pressure when installing your cooler.

It has to be asked.. is that guy a complete f|_|king retard? At least it looked like the moron got what he deserved when it looked like the system he put the CPU in wouldn't boot. I'm actually surprised he didn't snap the damn CPU in half literally gouging a penknife into the CPU and then just smacking it. Talk about a caveman with a stone and club approach. For any n00bs who watch that video... don't remove a IHS like that, use a razor blade or at the thickest a sculpting / crafting knife.

Your memory of thermodynamics fails you The reason TIM is needed isn't so much to do with how flat a surface is (unless its a really cheaply made thing) but because of micro fissures that are there even with the finest processes, they trap very small pockets of air, which as we all know air is very poor at transferring heat. The TIM seals up the micro fissures which leads to superior heat transfer.

for some reason i'm not buying that video..

looks like intel set someone up to do it and fail so that people are scared out of removing it themselves. Who would keep filming and upload a vid of them killing a cpu. bleh.. just dont know

    Hi People

Popped mine last night hopefully still working I managed to injure the CPU so am lil worried il be putting it in shortly..so fingers crossed..

Its funny how light the CPU is without the IHS! Brings back nice memories of Athlon XP Days - the weight of the pins ofc

anyway place your bets dead or not dead

I noticed the part were I damaged it has writing on it and not Circuit lanes so might be ok hehe

I've now successfully de-lidded 3 Ivy Bridge CPUs, my own 3770K, and 2 friends 3570Ks. Used IC Diamond on each and dropped temps by 10C in IBT/Prime 95 27.7. Switched to Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra and an XSPC RX360/Raystorm/D5 setup and now see temps 32C cooler compared to an H100 and Diamond IC. Thermal transfer into the IHS and away from the CPU is critical on these chips. I recommend Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra and similar liquid metal thermal materials only for IVB de-lidders.

My buddy who has my old H100 just got his Liquid Ultra today and applied: 23C cooler compared to IC Diamond, using same cooler. If you're not de-lidding your IVB and using Liquid Ultra, you're wasting your time.

I'm having problems with my order of Liquid Ultra right now. I received my Arctic Cooling MX-4 though, should I bother trying it? Any have MX-4 stable between the die and IHS? At this moment I'm using Arctic Silver 5, temps are around the same as stock TIM. Noctua NT-H1 was running 10C hotter than stock TIM after a day, so this is already better.

BTW, has anyone tried Shin-Etsu G751 between the die and the IHS?

hehe First time I have ever delved this far into Mods lol

Yes mate Direct Die cooling Have not tested load yet but so far it is amazing! currently temp reads @ 10 degrees C after S3 !!!!! crazy At idle it warms up to a toasty 15 or so lol also all the fans I have running x4 are all going nice n slow just wondering has anybody else Direct Died with Liquid Metal yet ? as this might be the ultimate..

Yea my old LGA-775 Danger Den waterblock still going : - )

I cleaned both surfaces with Meths then applied the IC-Diamond, cost a lot when ordering so thought must be good..was even more expensive than Liquid Metal!!! I wish I had done more research now.

I never used any bracket or anything thanks to the waterblock with 4 screws I could tighten him right down nice in tight and this was enough pressure to keep the CPU happy :-)

    Have fun

Cooler Master HTK-002-U1-GP is stable. I could not find a silver paste, which is stable between the die and IHS on my CPU.

in your sig u are running P67 y should have an IVY Bridge BIOS right ? and has to show you all dividers of mem till 2800 right ?

so you put 2400 at the settings mem says to be and wont boot ? what about less ? can be IMC of chip related...or mem we will have to dig a bit more with more data
