if you're still using Z68, then yes, you're being held back by the chipset.

Got a 2400 kit from the Egg last week, double sided. Haven't pulled the spreader off yet, but one came from the Egg loose already so I'll heat it up and see what is underneath.

0240 is definitely Hynix, it's part of the old numbering scheme and has been proven many times. Please post a link so I can check it out.

Seems like its hard to figure out who makes the ICs on these kits.

Havn't had time to play with them yet.

I've seen one 2400 2x4GB AB40 kit and it topped out at ~1300MHz for 32M stability, in my opinion that's alright for a kit that's rated for 1200MHz.

Better than imc topping out at 1400, easier to find a kit that runs decent than good imc-cpu but tightening timings is sometimes funny as well

Mine will do 2600mhz with more voltage. I'm happy with the performance but I really want the double sided kit that is better.

I love Gskill RAM but I don't understand why they made a set of ram with two different standards. Should be the same quality and build on every set of ram.

I've thought about this and I really don't think the chipset matters. IMC on CPU seems to be more important than anything for over clocking ram on IB.

Not sure how much interest there is in these kits anymore since GSkill has been swapping out ICs at random, but it is currently available at Egg for $89.99 and free shipping, however, if you are signed up for their newsletter they have a $20 off code (EMCNCGJ44 - expires 8/6/12), bringing it down to $69.99 per 2x4GB kit, so really, pretty good price for DDR3-2400.

I couldn't resist. I ordered two kits this morning. I won't complain much if they turn out to be single-sided since my system can only do 2600 and not stably at that.

Already sold, did 2800 10-12-12-28 at 1,73, did not want to stress these too much as this is not my kind of memory, I prefer other ics like bbse, hyper and psc

If you don't mind my asking, what are the 5th - 8th digits of the serial numbers on your first & your new kits (also manufacturing date - month, as we know the year )?

Weren't some of the original batch of these 2400s Hynix? I'm asking about the digits to try and make sense of what GSkill is shipping now...to compare the numbering with some of the earlier batches.

I ordered a couple of sets, but haven't received mine (which is kinda ironic, as I posted here about them being on sale AFTER I had ordered mine, yet others that ordered after me have already gotten theirs). I'll post what I get once they arrive.

    Edit:
For what its worth, at $70 per 2x4GB kit of 2400 rated ram, I'm OK if they are sporting Samsung and not Hynix chips.

Dang, I can remember paying $240 for a kit of OCZ 2x512MB with Samsung TCCD. These, if Sammies, would be a bargain compared to those.

i paid $130 for 2x1gb gskill 1000 hz cuz they were definitely microns.
this is when ddr3 was well and truely launched

i think id prefer samsungs, hynix is easy to find, the gskill 2133 9-11-10 kits are all hynix, and super cheap.

Just got my kits delivered...all June 2012, all "1500s"...all single-sided, so probably Sammies.

Will post back after I've had a chance to test them a little bit.

Like you said a few posts above, hard to beat guaranteed DDR3-2400 for $70 per 2x4GB kit. Who knows, maybe there will be a couple of real gems in there.
