Some early articles hinted that it was... and i think it would be in AMDs best interest to do so
FM2 is physically (pin config.) not backwards compatible with FM1

AMD's upcoming APU Kaveri release will most likely be inline with Intel's Haswell release, since Haswell supports DX11.1 it wouldn't be in AMD's best interest to slack since the way Intel is ramping their IGP's performance.

    Noooooooooooo!!! Desktop Trinity chipset/boards
    ....
Socket FM2 boards will be launched in August 2012 together with the new APUs

A few days ago, we posted some news about the upcoming Socket FM2 boards and new series of APUs. Today, our twitty bird message us that the boards and processors will be delayed to August.

No reasons were given for the delay but it be the same reasoning, to allow retailers ample time to clear their stocks of FM1 boards and APU. Retailers we have spoken to told us that the Socket FM1 boards were not selling too well. That is probably the reason.

I don't know about you, but I could care less about the desktop version. For the mobile isn't delayed there isn't any issue. Be great if AMD can get these out for the back to school buying season this summer.

Im seriously interested in trinity if it competes well with power consumption. Im not too keen on having a fast CPU but the GPU matters for occasional gaming and if AMD can nail it in the power department we have a winner here

curious about hybrid graphics since trinity has vliw4 only found in 6900 series what can be pairedwith it? Be nice if they made a discrete gpu with vliw4 just for trinity

You know, if I had an extradimensional heatsink that could pull heat into the 5th dimension and a cold fusion generator the size of a credit card we could totally put this thing into a Win 8 cell phone.

The new Samsung Series 9 Ivy Bridge ultrabook has a 15" screen and is only 15.2mm thick.

That does not constitute as intel guideline. Im sure samsung (or some other manufacturer) can make trinity ultrabook with 15" screen and only 15,2mm thickness.

they plan to rebrand the low end 6000s as 7000s for that exact reason.

so the low end "new" 7000 series (im assuming 7700 and below) are they still the old school vliw5? will that combine well with the trinity vliw4 gpu?

like could u crossfire a 6870 and a 6970? thats basically what im asking

sorry i think they will be vliw4 in sizes appropriate to the APUs, just like the low end 6000s were using 5000 series cores to pair with APUs. when i said using 6000s as 7000s re-branded i didnt think about what the low end 6000s were.

theres probably a table out there showing the whole linup of 7000s that i got this info from.

for your question about xfire. amd designed each tier to be compatible with all things in that teir. so the lowest 6800 can xfire with the highest 6800, but not the highest 6700 or lowest 6900.
if you remember back the 4850 was near identical in perf to the 4770, but they could not work together so they gave it a whole different tier rather than calling it a 4830

I think the 'Turks Pro' - something like an HD6570 - is the most appropriate card for dual-graphics with Trinity.

It looks like Kaveri 32/28nm will partner best with GCN - maybe a cut-down HD7750 ??

That should be some kinda jam in dual-graphics with everything sync'ed up.

    some nice reading here
    http://news.softpedia.com/news/AMD-T...I-267131.shtml

Fearing the hype about AMD’s Bulldozer design and not wanting to risk having its own compiler optimize programs for the same type of SIMD units as the one in AMDs CPU, Intel changes the specification for their FMA instructions from 4-operand to 3-operand instructions.

The change occurred in December 2008, a full half year before AMD announced the FMA4 implementation, but by then AMD was too advanced with their design to make the switch back to FMA3.

Seems the article is trying valiantly to make out Bulldozer was garbage due to Intel making changes to their compiler. Which of course is Garbage.
