Does that mean everyone will be searching for E0 chips?

sounds like it Aussie. let me know if you see any info about batches and sh1t to keep an eye out for.
regarding IHS, thats pretty shoddy work from intel i wonder if we'll see that lapping and IHS removal becomes the way of Ivy, though there's some instant warranty void happening there and no RMA when you're binning.
i have a CPU here i should post up. was a QX6850 i won on OCAU for $30, IHS removed and the guy had cracked a die mounting the waterblock. said he just wanted it gone as it reminded him too much of the pain of popping a $1500 chip.

It wouldn't cost less - it would require a different design which would cost far more than the savings in production due to the reduced die size. Especially when the IGP can be useful to even those with discrete GPU's when it comes to shutting down the discrete GPU when not in use and saving power, which makes a iGPU-free design even more of a niche for the upper midrange market.
There is no disadvantage of having the integerated GPU - the fact that it lowers the power density of the die also means the CPU portion is able to run cooler.
There are of course the -E models for high-end/workstation market where the objective is more for pure performance rather than balanced performance - but they come with the cost of decreased efficiency.

Usually I'd agree if not for this Lucid Virtu MVP where an integrated chip finally becomes useful.

Guys has anyone tested if the 2400 strap on a z68 (or even a p67) will now work with an Ivy CPU installed?

Meh, just wondering why the 2400 strap has been on the last two chipsets and we can't even use it lol
Z77 will fix it

Well of course, bios supports it so even if the 2400 ram setting wasn't working then you could still overclock with lower ram speeds.
