I do. I DO know he was at GDC though. Perhaps I missed him.

One way or another, I HIGHLY suggest you use Google Cache before reading his site. Several older posts were changed / edited in the last few days.....

Let's just hope this launch happens soon since once again portions of this thread are going way (!) beyond assumptions.

After getting a frothing-at-the-mouth email from him, I've decided to not discuss the accuracy of his posts anymore. I'm not in this to make enemies, that's for sure.

Guess I hit too close to the truth.

I'll be bowing out of this thread until launch. See y'all....SOON!

    4. There's also no background which there usually are in Valve's graphs.
    5. There is no indication of the FPS on the left side, this does not nessecarily mean fake but it could be similar to the classic HardOCP mistake where a <1 FPS difference looks like a 25% increase of performance.
    6. The graph appears to be on a slope which is atypical of graphs.
    7. I do not believe that Valve would that readily give away a sequel to a much anticipated game.
    8. I don't think that Valve would post such banter in their graphs either, it seems very unprofessional of them to put such a "confidential" tag in their graphs.

Nice try, but you can't fool me.

we know now that with proper hard mods we can take the 7970 to up to 1500 MHz core, which means that other board partners will be able to do do the same. With that in mind we need to know what will the OC headroom of the 680 be like.
Where are such mods, I have to call bull. Especially if this is on normal, practical air. H20 haven't been clocking this well really on hwbot.

If such mods exist I doubt they are commercially feasible and can run on normal air.

im just glad there is a console game that can be tweaked to reduce pop in and improve on its fugly pile of blur to turn it into a half decent looking game on pc and when modern hardware can handle it why not?
but modding and tweaking a badly optimised game (although getting better) for extra detail obviously doesnt leave you with the most efficient result
its not like memory is expensive imo it can make more difference than any other change they can make for the same $$ spent on hardware to games if they just made games that can make use of it

people keep saying extra memory makes no difference but the difference is huge if the game uses more memory than the gpu has
games always follow the hardware even if they do lag well behind at times they dont make games for hardware that doesnt exist so if they dont add more memory and make the hardware faster than what is required for current games to run then graphics will not advance on future games

Considering the context, I think he means normal air cooled cards hitting 1500mhz to out compete keplar with conventional cooling. 1500mhz isn't that special under cold conditions considering fermi can hit that and ln2 79xx are hitting 1700+ mhz.

I'm beginning to to get the feeling that when we see benchmarks, we'll be amazed, then when we see price we'll be pissed.

There was talk of 1300+ cards stock from the manufacturers originally and I havent really seen anyone push the cards to their top on air yet other than minor software voltage bumps on stock or barely better than stock cooling resulting in 1200-1300 territory..

But honestly comparing theoreticals like its do-or-die is nothing more than fanboy banter..

I haven't played Skyrim, didn't know there was a texture pack that combined with 8XMSAA bumps memory usage over 2GB at 25X16. Still, that is the exception, not the rule. I suppose if you're a Skyrim addict (and many are) with a 25X16 panel (few are) that's a valid consideration.
What's up Rollo? Has been a long time. Hope you're doing well too.

To be fair not many games really require >2GB. 1.5GB is probably sufficient for 95% of games at 1080p. I was just pointing out that last year's super-popular GOTY can easily surpass the vram capacity of what most think necessary, even on a single screen.

1300 I have seen, but 1500 mhz is something I have to call out, especially if the guy is making it out to seem anyone can get this type of speed with the right mods on stock cooling. This is an overclocking website overall. The very best water results are 1400mhz.

Sf3D is a world class overclocker and he only got his 7970 to 1400 with air cooling. There is 1 hwbot with a 79xx that is air cooled in the 15xx range, but this seems like a cooling error reporting mistake considering it is 182mhz higher than the next guy with the same cooling. This is hardly enough to suggest commericially viable 79xx that are 1500mhz are possible, considering these guys mod the hell out of their cards and don't care about noise at all.

The supposed GK104 seems slightly larger than the G92 on the left. Since the chip on the left is G92-421-B1, would that be a G92b, which is 260 mm^2 as opposed to GK104's 324 mm^2?

EDIT: Clicked through to the link, they estimate ≈300 mm^2 which fits with a G92b on the left.

I think it may be partly due to fear that memory prices will rise.

I personally wouldn't want to budget the cost to manufacture a console using current ddr3 prices, that's for sure. I'm not sure what's inside the current gen consoles, but if it's ddr2, that's a LOT more expensive now than it was.
