Its definately related to BCLK and or liquid and air cooling. If you had Phase it would go over with no problem without finding the BCLK sweet spot at an even lower voltage then you 5.1ghz takes. But without Phase if you can hit 5.0 or 5.1ghz on at a certain voltage but cant get any higher, Finding the BCLK sweet spot will get you over. But only for another 2 or 300mhz.

Just to be sure, I had my UD7 board and the CPU would not go over 5.1ghz. It would get to starting windows but no logo spin. It would do 5.1 at 1.48v but anything over 5.1 even up to 1.66v would stick at the exact same point the where it would show starting windows but no logo spin at all. Then I put that board on phase and reached 5.6ghz at 1.62v.

I dont know if its heat related but it may be surging so fast it locks before you see it.

My first chip clocks great with low voltage, but it wont boot at 5200mhz no matter what. I think it was raja@asus that posted about the chips that do 2600+ mem are also the highest clocking chips.

The chip im using now needs higher voltage clock for clock than the first chip, but it will boot at 5400mhz (not benchable on water) and is benchable up to 5250-5300mhz. It is also much better for higher memory frequency.

My findings are similar. My more voltage hungry 3960x actually clocked higher than my lower voltage chips. In any event, it does seem that the limits on these chips are firm unless your go sub ambient. I've had 4 chips so far and only one does 24/7 reliably at 5.1ghz. All of them are benchable at between 4.9 and 5.2, but 3 of them hit the wall firmly at 4.9 to 5ghz with water cooling for daily use. Base clock, strap, and multiplier combos didn't matter much.

This is a brand new system that I built today and I am having trouble with DRAM. The system isn't posting and I have the red DRAM light on. Have tried all sorts of combinations of ram and just 1 stick, tried mem ok thing as well.

Any ideas on the G.Skill ram that I have. Could the motherboard need a bios update? I am considering going to buy some other brand ram just 4gb to see if it will post.

Help would be appreciated, some nice rigs you guys have here, Will need to try some over clocking at some stage.

What Gskill ram do you have? Have you updated the bios? Running on Optmised defaults ?

not sure if it makes such a big diff in vcore required but i think it holds a lil bit of water and thats why the bclk skew / pcie skew is there becos i think changing skews changes the sweetspots.

If I don't increase PCH voltage, I can't clock my cards past 800/4008 no matter how much voltage the cards get (3GB 580s).

Increasing PCH voltage to 1.25 will take the cards to 900/4200, has anyone else experienced this?

Remove the RevoDrive and see if that makes a difference, or change the slot it is in to try that--good luck

Is ture, I can comfire it.

if I set it to 50x100 I need 1.545 volt to keep it stabil
but if I go 38x131.6 I can run it at 1.45 volt

Assuming there are no major differences in memory frequency, it is entirely possible that asking the internal PLL for a greater level of multiplication of the reference clock produces more phase error or increases jitter. If that were to be the case, increasing Vcore and tuning the voltage of any other related bus becomes necessary to counter any loss in sampling margin (may not always be successful either).

I can't do anything as it isn't posting. might go try buy a cheap set of safer 2x4 memory to get into bios.

Try switching ln2 mode, I don't remember if it's on by default. If that fails, reseating the CPU might be worth a shot.

Weird... I find my system is more stable with the now defunct 1005 compared to the newer 1101 thus I've downgraded again for now and happy.

you should not use the grey slots first, First fill up ALL the red slots first

Very interesting, tested and confirmed this myself and for this CPU Im finding bclk 130-133 to be optimal. For example, dropping to 100.00 x 50 requires 0.045v more on vcore for stability than 131.6 x 38.

Are all CPUs going to be totally different for optimal bclk or is a 130-133 range going to be optimal for several CPUs? I would try for myself but I only have 1 CPU here right now.

You may find that going to 125MHz and upwards is a bit more forgiving than 100 BCLK when it comes to Vcore on all CPUs (where possible).

I just noticed that my board basically doesn't POST with Offset Vcore and a different CPU strap. It just sits there powered on, fans running, with error code 79. Only the standard 100MHz strap works. For alternative straps I need to use the stationary Vcore method. Is this a bug/defect? Thanks.
