There's still plenty of use for extra performance like Triple monitors, stereoscopic 3D, SSAA etc. And personally I've lost faith on SLI/CrossFire and will be switching to a single GPU when next gen emerges, whatever it might be called. I guess AMD could do a name switch for GCN cards since it's a completely new architecture. The rest of that speculation made no sense to me whatsoever, outside rebranding low end cards which happens all the time.
