ok, i gotta ask, would you all recommend the ud5 despite its issues?
I need 8 internal sata ports, my other options are things like the asrock deluxe 5 and asus/asrock boards(not really a fan of asus, to many issues with them sending the same defective mobo back to me just cleaned and shiny....)
currently im on a ga-790xt-ud4p with 1055t and the board, as many should know is a bit touchy with ram, I have been have yet to get it to stabalize with my 4x8gb hyperx (blue genisis 1600 stuff), just considering my options, seeing what the best move for me would be.
Yes I would like that answered as well, I'm upgrading soon to either the ud5 or the Asrock Fatal1ty board(which is deemed one of the better boards). I love performance but i also love aesthetics.

Yupmy 550 and 555 are not stable yet Unloncked @ 4200 or even lower
My Ud4p Unlocked them flawless.
On this Ud5( In Normal Core Mode) thier just fine above 4200mhz. I am liking this mobo despite that unlock buggyness . Raid and the boot up times are nice, upgraded to 2100mhz ddr3 and having Xfire in 2X16 vs 2X8 for dual cards is huge. Tweaking mobo with some Voltage. It does OV a little and i run my Vdimm on ram a little higher too.
F5 bios im atm determined to get my 555 fully stable while unlocked . Then ill need more cores hahaa
No luck with unlocking my 555 on ud3 with latest bios. As soon as i enable core unlock it doesnt boot. Why have this option if it doesnt work.
most 900 series mobo any brand have core unlock problem
good bios update help

Ok i just noticed Your Voltage for CPU/Vcore... @4000mhz four cores unlocked you need at least 1.45v CPU and 1.32vNBvid ...Despite the board saying volts are high you need to give it more.
I just spanked my 555 back into submission
@ 4300 1.65v cpu/vcore and Nbvid@1.35v @2700mhz with 1800mhz on da ram ....
UD5 needs a better Bios but i am unlocked again above 4200mhz![]()
Haha gOtVoltage, I love your CPU
However 1.65v for long will pretty much insta-degrade and kill CPUs over time. Since Thuban, and since ~week 1015-1020 Deneb, AMD has switched to a Low-K dielectric layer (at least we think so, since these newer Denebs act like more like Thuban than ever, and definately not like early C3 deneb) in their CPU's for lower TDP, working voltage and better OC ability.
1.5v is really the limit for these things on air, I'd feel sort of safe up to 1.525-1.55v on water. Validations not really past 1.6v.
A lot of newer Denebs are hitting air/water frequencies like never before however it seems to me cold scaling has suffered a bit. (Thuban worse LN2 scaling vs better air clocks reveal this)
Some CPU's even do 4.1-4.2 Ghz on a measly 1.45v or less, it's crazy stuff. Some guy here unlocked his X2 to X4 and his CPU did 4.2 stable at 1.45v.
Unfortunately my Thuban does "only" 4.1 @ 1.5v+, 100 to 250 Mhz behind most CPU's. Hopefully my luck of bad CPUs will turn around with FX.
As far as needing more voltage to unlock?...not really.
These 900 series boards are very touchy as the unlock is part of AGESA code and manufacturers are focused on FX right now. Heck, performance and OC ability is bad on them too. However, if a CPU doesn't run stock frequency on stock volts with an unlock attempt, more voltage is not going to fix the problem. It's not worth unlocking at that point.

990FXA-UD5 new bios ....
http://download.gigabyte.asia/FileLi...xa-ud5_f6d.exe
what does it mean d???
I dont know but will try the F6d soon... hoping for a more stable max unlock bios
@BEEPBEEP, ive been running 1.65v vcore and 1.325v NBvid since this 555 came out. its max is around 4450 with ddr2... i just started with ddr3 pushing the NB more with 1800mhz Ram instead of 1200mhz...
This CPU is epic. i cant wait to try a 6 or BD core now that i have a true ddr3 AM3+ setup
UPDATED now on the F6D
Ok F6D is way buggy with ht and volt settings,, multiple reboots when trying to get 1800mhz ram stable at 4300mhz... atfter some tweaking i managed 2700 on the Nb while at 270fsb using 666 divider for 1800+ on the PDP 2133 sticks.
This B3 unlocked dosnt like to go past T1 @1850mhz too much. Also Running loose or tight , swapping T1 and T2 are very close to the same between F5 and F6D Bioses.
F6D you must manually set the Ram! and set Ram volts up or down a setting from where it should be.
Prepare for some tricky HT and Ram multipliers and dont use auto for the Ram.
In all the Bios is workable and i have yet to go above 280FSB unlocked.
, Also decided to see what the mobo has foe volts!!!!
It can and will volt the Crap outa whatever you want ta cook

Does anyone know if the UD3 can lock individual cores of BD? Like done here,
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...-Threaded-Perf.
Heatware Cecil
can i ask you why you want to do that? i am just curious
I dont need another PC, just want something to toy with. Want to do direct 4 core comparisons against my 2500K and Deneb, along with some other tests. Gives me something to do. Also, if the single threaded performance really is that much better, it should be cooler then having all 8 threads active and OC a bit higher with air/basic water.

core control working for me on thuban cecil
TO UD3 OWERS:
If you load f5a bios onto UD3 make sure you have another bios on flash drive in case f5a gives you problems. for me it would not boot to OS, just hang on "loading o.s." screen and it seems like a lot of ppl have had that issue with f5a. i loaded f4 onto it and its working fine again. i know f5a has latest agesa so maybe it will be fine with BD but it gave me problems with thuban

990fx UD5.................. F6D bios is touchy................ after a few days i decided to go back to F5
As of Today ,,F6D has been removed from the Bios list and F5 is now the most recent!. Unlocking does fully work with F5 and you just have to tweak settings for some Vdroop. hopefully well get a Bios that helps the Droop and gives us a little more tweakage.

There are many variations of the BIOSes, the letters really don't mean much for users. The thing is that the latest Betas for BD were taken down, and I am to tell you guys to use the official, as that is what GB wants. i think those betas were up so reviewers could use the latest microcode.

OK there is a new F6 for 990fxa-UD5...
The F6D didnt work wirth beans and i am others have unlock problems with known good unlockable chips on UD3 and so forth...
so far none,, not one of the official or beta Bioses work to unlock my 555 or 550 (((((with out crashing..))))))
.Both Chips work past 4200+mhz on my UD4P!!!!
These are unlockable chips that work 100% stable on other Mobo's......
GIgabyte,,
please,,
at least one working,,
Unlockable Bios would be nice,,
a good BD bios while your at it too lol,,
