vdrop on my ud7 with a 965 is kinda big, I had to bump it to 1.475 on bios so it idles on 1.488 and on load drops to 1.422, that's the only way I can keep my system stable or else it drops under 1.4 and causes instability.

well you just have to compensate of the vdroop, it doesn't bother temperatures for me, plus idle vcore isn't that big of a deal.

I was thinking of putting together a cheap AM3+ rig.

Is the UD3 worth it? I know the bios ATM is not the best.

I wanted an all black scheme.

Edit: only 2 way sli/crossifre! WHY!

All I have to say is that hobbies are expensive!

So the UD7 is the only 4 way SLI/Crossfire board for AM3+? Hmm.....

    UD5 16x/8x/8x Crossfire/SLI
    UD7 8x/8x/8x/8x Crossfire/SLI

right. but it sounds strange if you want 4x Xfire. ud7 is not that expensive if you are prepared to run 4x GPU . maybe 4x 6990 is cheaper than ud7?

Well, my main rig is the i7 in my profile.

I just wanted something to bench/play with. Another i7 is just boring. AM3+ will no doubt have a lot more features. I was actually looking for cheap AMD cards to do 3 or 4 way. Opposite end of the spectrum, I know!

i understand.. maybe wait a little until bulldozer and see if ud7 is worth for 4x xfire and BD?

Oh yeah, I'll be waiting, no doubt.

I don't play favorites, I like both cpu companies. I was going to get AM3+, but couldn't wait any longer.
I haven't really done any hardcore OC'ing with AMD since my PII 945 on an AM2+ board.

Searched through the thread but nobody seems to have a 970A-UD3. Seems to be the perfect candidate for those that do not need to have Crossfire support. VRM section seems much more robust than the Asus M5A97 EVO board

    How big?
Isn't it due to the Turbo kicking in?
If you seeing it in CPU-Z, try HWiNFO. It shows realtime clocks for each core at the same time.

Something I have noticed with my UD7 is that when I OC and get BSOD to many times. My system isn't stable at stock speeds anymore. The conclusion I have come up with is that the BSOD and general system instability is corrupting the BIOS. To fix it, I reflash the BIOS and everything is OCable again and stable. I've had to do this proly 4 or 5 times now.

Any suggestions? Or is this just Gigabytes flaky BIOS showing it's teeth?

yeah set it so it doesn't restart on error and write down what is says in the BSOD.

Honestly the UD7 looks so nice but the CV5 has all the pwm fans ports I want but lacks a 4th card slot. :/

    The UD7 has 6 pci-express slots.

That's the one I was looking at, TBH the 990x-UD3 won out due to a better newegg combo

at stock the BIOS is set to use the turbo function and change vcore from 1.375 to 1.475 at stock, maybe that is what you are seeing?

here are some VRm o-scope tests to keep you guys busy!
These are scope shots of max ripple spike and average ripple spike that is pass/fail, it shows us how much of the time the spikes occurred during the given time slot. Very good stable performance. over 120-100mv ripple is where one should start to worry. overclocked 80mv-100mv is acceptable. Stock 30-80mv is acceptable. These are at stock. This is vantage CPU test 2, VERy crazy on the VRm since loads are changing 24/7 there is almost not constant loading so we get these transients, no matter what board. Their height(Vpp) Peak 2 peak measures noise and ripple. More goodies to come in the real review! just wanted to give you guys a sneak peak.
