I am surprised at a lot of the negativity.

Crytek could have much more easily done nothing. Even if what they are doing isn't great (and sometimes it does look a bit wonky in those comparison pics), at least they are doing something?

I'm not an apologist, but maybe I just prefer to see the positive?

How is there anything positive when this patch has accomplished exactly nothing. Only silver lining I can see is that if this is a start and they further patch to improve visuals. As of right now this just seems to be a total waste of time.

    butt-mastering tessellation capability,
    they lost me there!

But if it were true, it is only the nVIDIA customers that are going to end up paying for the game twice!

what nvidia wants is complete overusage of tesselation to make their competitor look bad

result: complete overusage of tesselation with no visual benefit

the brick wall is one example: they should portrude only 1/3 of what they do with tesselation enabled to look very realistic and have no rounded edges - but nvidia wants more polygons to show that amd has a bottleneck somewhere and that's why the Tesselation screens look like crap

To be honest outside of thrashing GPUs the first Crysis was a waste of time. If they enable all sorts of effects, even if it looks like crap, as long as it cripples GPUs and is a good benchmark for kicking systems in the balls, I think most people will have gotten what they wanted.

It would appear that these shots were taken by manually inserting the higher res textures that had the same names. Possible that other textures were renamed. Also note that this does not include DX11.

I'm glad you told me that, because there was barely any difference between the shots. Perhaps the texture pack requires the DX11 patch to work properly.

Complain all you want about the 559mb DX11 patch, but to say "exactly nothing has been accomplished" when the update contains 1.74gb of high resolution textures, is a flat out lie and doesn't belong here.

1.74gb? More like 5.7gb, when uncompressed that is..

Speaking of which, when I downloaded the file from TPU, it came in at 1.65gb, and not 1.74gb.. Did I get shorted LOL?

Directly from mycrysis when it was online. One file roughly 1.7gb and the second was 559mb. I have not ran them but I expect them to be heavily compressed.

The main reason for negativity is because this patch has nearly no value for me. I have already finished Crysis 2 on hardest difficulty. SInce the game is awfully linear, it has zero replay value for me. Only way of playing it again would be a strict stealth approach with usage of only melee assassination using cloak on hardest difficulty. And even there you'd be forced to use weapons on key enemies like those walker mechs that you can't assassinate with a knife...
The PC game should be delayed for 2 months and came with DX11 out of the box, so we'd experience the full DX11 for the first time. Doing it on a game that you have already experienced is just not even virtually the same.
It was not the same even in Deus Ex and System Shock 2 despite massive almost fully non-linear world with different styles of playing, different paths and methods. Because once you know the plot, levels, characters and all, it's just not the same even if they cram DirectX 30 into it.

I just might MAYBE finally have a game that makes use of my $500 graphics card to the max, showing what a PC can really do. they don't say anything about making it run WORSE on ATI cards but just that Nvidia has payed them to add in more DX11 features, which just happen to run better on Nvidia cards. i think it's better this way then having a crap console port, that looks the same on all three platforms.

im tired of games looking the same as they did when consoles first came out... if they properly use the power of say a 480/580 the graphics quality of this game will be off the charts...

edit: however it's kitguru so this is most likely all BS

it's like the 3rd or 4th post in this thread so it's not hard to find.

has any site redone a performance analysis yet on the game with the new features? I would love to see what type performance differences there is with the new patches and features.

My guess is (and this is just speculation) that EA pushed CryTek to deliver all the games at the same time... I still hold a small bit of hope that CryTek actually wanted to make the PC version with DX11 etc., but they were simply told to have all the games ready for launch at the same time... That's why they've actually delivered the patch, and stuck with it after shipping the game.. It's not dlc, you don't pay for the upgrade, they're actually trying to honor their promise of giving us DX11 and PC exclusive features... But since the publisher forced them to push for a simultanious release, they had to go with the lowest common denominator....
