    Firefox 5.0

    Is out ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.or.../releases/5.0/

There were seven beta builds in three months and no Release Candidates. They are really pushing a fast schedule with this.

I'm glad they are releasing more often (Meaning new features and improvements get released in small amounts in a matter of months instead of tons of them every year and a half), but this naming scheme makes it feel kinda cheap.

I'll be calling this Firefox 4.1 in my mind (After all, it was called like that internally before they changed the development model).

is it like 4? disliked the layout so much i switched back to 3.6.

and yes i know you could change it, but when i do a re-install, the last thing i want to do is add on another 20 minutes before i get my pc where i'm comfortable with it.....

Just back up your configuration once you have it setup the way you like. There is no need to do it more than once.

yeah this is actually FF 4.1, and imho I don't see any need to update, 4.0.1 works great for me, plus it's gonna take some time for every addon to be made compatible again...

If its more reliable of an upgrade I'll put it on my work PC. For whatever reason, FF4 works fine on my laptop and on my desktop PC, but on my work PC it is a little screwball at times.

well, i'm on aurora atm and on vrs.6, so i can't quite exactly remember what ff5 was like. i think there was some speedup in ff5(NOTHING close to the speedup from 3.6 -> 4 though). if i recall correctly, ff4 had some issues with random crashes(more than in 3.6). i think the issue with vrs5 was alot of flash crashes when you had a dozen or so videos.

but ya, honestly, everyone should be switching to aurora. the only reason not to is if your addon HONESTLY doesn't work - otherwise, just disable compatibility checking. stability is GREATER than in the stable releases(for whatever reason).

Agreed. I disliked other parts of 4.0 too; I'm on 3.6 because it's the browser I know and love.

I have the same kind of issue with FF4 too. Turns out disabling "hardware acceleration" fixed it for me. Only the GTX260 seems to hate it. It's fine on the 4200 setup on my laptop and the GT210s in my Wife's PC and our Media Center.

    I'm another v4 hater.

The new version numbering scheme is nonsense too. I will also think of it as 4.x.

2 or 3 clicks are too much? It's not like you're reinstalling OS or browser every day... besides, Fiefox 4 layout (and Chrome and Opera 11) are a blessing for netbooks as they give you extra ~1cm of screen becase there is no useless window frame at the top (now tabs are on it).

Firefox 5 already? 4 came out not too long ago. Oh yeah, the GUI sucks balls for 4, WTF was Mozilla thinking when they changed it, hate it how everybody is copying IE7's retarded looking GUI where the buttons are all over the place.

4 is fantastic. I won't touch 5 because they turned the interface into a chrome-like interface which I think it retarded. Windows 8 and Ubuntu Unity and all this nonsense minimalist GUIs. Soon they will have the OS with a black screen and electrodes attached to the head so the computer does what you think.

Actually - it keeps the settings, so you can do it just once... and even on first try takes about 2 - 5 minutes (you don't have to install all existing firefox add-on click by click ).

    Lazy lazy lazy...

Here's how mine looks and that with main FF team (i use this since first v4 beta):

That's why Firefox is still the best browser for me: if you don't like something about the looks, just change it yourself. No need to compromise at all if you like a part of each browser, just mash them together. My setup (the blurred icons are bookmarks):

if looks matter so little why did they make it look like opera then? they could have made it look like anything else

i've upgraded from 4 to 5 without any issues respectively incompatible addons. ff5 isn't that of a major update like the version number might suggest. ff5 is more like 4.1 - too bad they changed their way of versioning their builds. pretty horrible choice imo. i blame google chrome for that nuisance...

ff3.6 and earlier 3.x builds were quite laggy and slow for me. ff4 and now 5 runs way better for me - faster startup time and less lags when running for a few hours with a lot of tabs.

why is your bottom gray frame stopping at "tags for this thread" height instead of going all the way down below everything, like it should be? Seems like Aurora is up to some shenanigans with parsing...

wait...isn't ff4 the one with tabs on top ability? if so, what are the GUI differences between 4 and 5 then?

Thanks for the heads up, will give it a try.
Installing the update, it wouldn't let me download the full version.

Edit: hm, how do I install .mar file?

I think they should get version v4 ironed out before they go to v5. v4 has lots and lots of bugs that need to be fixed first..

ff5 is the equivalent of ff4.1. so yes, it is a bug fix version.
