Is it safe to use liquid metal thermal compounds on i5/i7 IHSes?
I have some Coolaboratory Liquid Pro left in the syringe.
Can I say bye bye to my warranty if I apply it on my i5? Will it leave visible signs on IHS lettering?
Wonder what's your experience in this matter.

I have fallen for that stuff too once a long time ago. The only way to get rid of all signs of it was to lap my cpu and not to mention how tough it was to remove the block from the cpu once the stuff was hardened out. I have used MX2 since then and happy with it. If you need to buy new stuff I guess you should go for MX4 now.

Yes, (de-)applying is very hard. I can live with that if performance is worth it. I've used CLP on some AMD chips with IHS removed with good results (mostly lowering temps, hardly any OC benefits). But IHS on i5 is irremovable. And good to be covered by warranty if something goes wrong.
The thing is, can it be removed without signs from intel's IHS?
    Have no experience with that.

Guys have any of you tried shin-etsu on your 2600K? I bought some off ebay today so I will give it a shot when it turns up but Im not going to use any of that S H I T that glues your water block to your hsf, stuff that, SE doesnt do that does it? I had a little bit of MX2 and tried it, it seems pretty good and easy to remove afterwards, is MX4 any better?

Doesn't really matter except for benching. If you're expending on other stuff like a video card, save some money on RAM and get a 2x4GB DDR3-1333 kit and you'll fine.

Has anyone tested HT on and off on 2600K? Does voltage needed for a stable overclock reduce with HT off?

yes a bit, but I don't think it was as drastic as bloomfield in terms of temperatures

I loved MX-2 it would make up for a lot of convexities and concavities since it was putty-like.
    I currently have both Shin-Etsu and MX-4.
They both perform around the same but I prefer the MX-4 because it is thicker and less liquid-like whereas the Shin-Etsu has the same thinness as AS5.

    Batch = 3108B305
    Chip no 4188.

    Multi limit from bios @ 1.52v, 2 cores not HT = 49x
I believe this is a motherboard limitation.

4.5Ghz - 68C max in linpack with coolermaster hyper 212+ (only push fan, no pull fan yet)
    Intelburntest stable.

Could probably do more but I haven't tried higher multis yet, still setting up system.

Just got tired of waiting on AMD, the phenom 2 has terrible single thread performance and I am an emulator enthusiast.
Single thread performance is EVERYTHING in emulation. So far about 4x speed over 3.6 phenom in pcsx2, 2x speed in dolphin emulator.

Can record HD fraps whilst emulating at a whopping 160fps sync in PCSX2, a feat which would push the phenom to 10fps.
